1. The TM Stevens model is typically understated, just like the bright, blue, globe, map, double neck Warwick he used to have.
2. Geez, what an amazing looking bass. The fingerboard/top wood combination looks fantastic. 6 weeks is going to go by rrrreeeeaaaaaallllllllyyyy sssssslllllloooooooowwwwwwwllllllyyyyy PS. You didn't see a huge great 9 string whilst you were there did you??
3. I have to say that I have nothing but respect for Anthony Jackson both as a player and as a pioneer of the "contrabass guitar". I also have to say that I'm not a big jazz fan but the Big Band stuff and the trio with AJ and Horacia Hernandez was very cool. Didn't quite get the Mike Stern stuff, but 2 out of 3 ain't bad. After reading Overwater#1's post I'm going to find the One More Once CD and give it a go. I could even turn into a latin jazz fan.......
4. I hate to think how much they charged for that.
5. Sounds like a good trade all round. I'm so glad that I don't have any kind of amp G.A.S.
6. Nice to see Fender being brave for a change. I expect that Steve Bailey's fretless is going to be very expensive and (as usual for USA Fenders) way overpriced.
7. A mate of mine bought me a 15ft Planet Waves cable that does the muting thing. There's a little button on the jack at one end that toggles the lead on/off. Quite pleased with it, especially as it means that I don't have to buy another cable for a while.
8. Do we ever find "the one" or do we just float on the bass oceans chasing the eternal dream.......
9. Definately I first went to see Alan a good while ago now and even though I wasn't ready to buy a bass he was more than happy to show me round. No pressure, just talking about the stuff he was building and was going to build. That first visit kinda stayed in my head, I kept contact with Alan and come bass-buying time again ACG was in the picture. With the 9, I wrote to a lot of luthiers who had experience of building the large (and some might say silly) instruments. Some of them e-mailed me back and some of them didn't!! When Alan told me that ACG 9 number 1 was in the works, we talked in some detail about what I was after and ACG had another customer. The way Alan works, always with an openness for customer input was great for me and I think that goes for all ACG customers. It's a bit like having a fine suit made. We all want basically the same thing, but someone might want loud stripes instead of a fine pin-stripe. PS: Moffat also has a superb cafe and a fantastic sweet/toffee/whisky shop.
10. What a great bass. Huge congrats
11. Great stuff. When I went to see Alan just before Christmas there were a couple of basses that were nearly completed. Both looked superb! You might even see my 9 string whilst you're there which is nearing completion as well. Still a few weeks away yet though....
12. A good wife is hard to find (I'm lucky I have one myself) Nice pics and (I have to agree) great fireplace.
13. Never seen the history on the Hohner Jack, but I had one of these in the past and it was a darn good bass
14. I had 2 of these in my time and I sold one last year for £900. To be honest, I would have kept it but the whole deal meant that I could get a Jackson PC1 back into my musical armoury again. The Urge I is a great bass and still pretty unusual with it's short scale and 3 pickups. I think that £850 is the right price, but not in this current economic climate where those who do have money are waiting for the bargains to appear. Personally, I would find somewhere/anywhere to keep it and not let someone get a bargain on your account.
15.
She has that look in her eye that says. See this, Its firewood.
Luckily, I couldn't ask for a more supportive wife! "Jezebel" (the Sei 7) has a pinkish veneer between the walnut and the lacewood as pink is Jen's favourite colour.
16. Congrats on a great bass
Anyway, got it from those wonderful chaps at guitarguitar in Glasgow. First class service!
Agreed. I pop in there now and again and their service is always great.
17. I had the '51 Reissue which I think is like the Sting but without the body contouring (and the Sting inlay). I was really, really pleased with the bass. I put a Seymour Duncan pickup in it, fully shielded it and it sounded great. Unfortunately, it had to be sacrificed for the greater good (the ACG 9). It wasn't the 1 trick pony that I thought it might be either. Definately worth finding one to try out.
18. Probably the only decent pic I have. This was taken when went down to Sei HQ to see how my bass was coming along. ....and here's the Mrs with the finished instrument
19. Looks pretty darn good. What a great way to end the year
20. The 12 has settled in very nicely, thanks It sounds absolutely huge and isn't that bad to play. I tweaked the setup a bit because I'm fussy and that was an absolute pig of a job as tuning 12 strings up and down takes ages. I already have ideas of how I'm going to use th12 though. I just need some time to find my way around Cubase. The ACG 9 string is due in early '09 and that's going to be fantastic. By the way, you must post pics of the Skelf with that amazing fingerboard.
21. Been a busy year gear-wise: OUT Double bass (as I decided on going for the ACG 9) Fender '51 RI (another sacrifice for the ACG 9, but a really cool bass !) Trace Elliot SMX350 (no use to me as I can't gig anyway !) Mesa-Boogie Road-Ready 1x15 (same reason as above) Fender Urge Mk1 (now in a studio down south) IN Jackson PC1 (a joyful return - long story) James Tyler 4 string (bought sight-unseen from The Gallery. Every bit as good as the hype) Ovation Elite 12 string electro-acoustic guitar (bought whilst on honeymoon !) Taylor GS 6 string acoustic guitar (wife bought it for me whilst on holiday with her friend !) Dean Rhapsody 12 string bass (bought from Scoop this thing takes no prisoners !) COMING SOON CS2 Cajon from Cajon Direkt (it ain't just a box !) ACG 9 string (this is going to be simply awesome !) I told my wife I have a New Year's resolution to not buy any new gear in '09. For some reason she just laughed at me.....
22. Definately going to be a stunning bass and the sound will match the looks.
23. Not a daft question at all. There aren't any problems fretting notes as each set of 3 strings are so close together.
24. Very cool and very black
25. What a wonderful job
