1. Lovely. I bought a Yamaha RBX550M off eBay a couple of weeks ago. Only cost me £62. Looks like the Yammy bargains are out there
2. Just had a quick 'Google' and found the bass player is Trevor Barry.
3. Surely that should be posted in the 'For Sale' section.... Maybe you could be a perk of the 'elite clique'. Welcome back Zoe!!
4. He''s not the bass playre in the hat that's always in the background when Brucie introduces Dave Arch(?) is he... Be funny if he was as my wife and I comment on him getting on the telly every week....

ESP Bass

The mint is a kinda aged look, like a really old white one which has been out in the light too long. The mint green is really subtle effect.
6. Yeah, it's one of the 2 basses I regret selling (the other being a Fender 51 P RI). It's amazing how good this bass sounds especially as I don't have anything approaching a decent rig.
7. For price use P4D I've used them a bunch of times. It's a portal and much cheaper than going direct. For an actual courier, I've picked DHL and Parcelforce before and haven't had any problems.
8. I know what you mean about there being different wiring diagrams. Even for a Precision. The Fender and Seymour Duncan websites are good for the wiring diagrams, so go for one of those.
9. Looks like it's going to be a blingy bass
10. That's a fantastic piece of work. Awesome
11. Thanks for the kind words @D
Picked up an RBX800 a while ago from Crack Converters for £129. Bit bashed cosmetically but awesome bass. My mate had one just like yours - it was lovely. Love maple fretboards!
That's a bargain you picked up there. Great spot!!
£62..! RESULT...!! Hope this turns into a setup thread, be interesting to see you go to work on this one.
Could do! I've already removed, cleaned, lubed the truss rod nut and adjusted the neck. I took the action down a bit as well and just enjoyed playing it for the last couple of days. I plan to give it a good clean including the electrics and think about whether to replace the plastic nut with a bone one. Might even get it in the neck jig and give it a fret dress as well.
12. I had one of these basses years ago and had to sell it when I didn’t have any money. It wasn’t just this bass that had to go but all my music gear. It wasn’t a good day. The nut on the bass had broken as well and I had to make an emergency repair to make sure the store would buy it from me. Luckily they didn’t spot the piece of chewed-up paper under the G string….. I always kept an eye out for a 550M and came across this one on eBay a couple of weeks ago. I bought it for the bargain price of £62! So after many years, I again have a Yamaha RBX500M. This was the model that Yamaha gave to Billy Sheehan when he first went to Yamaha and he’s pictured with a double-necked version on the cover of his “On Bass” video (not sure if it’s available on DVD yet!). Unfortunately, Billy didn’t like the bass at all and instead played a modified BB series before designing the Attitude bass with Rich Lasner. However, I really liked my RBX and it was my main bass before I had to sell everything. The RBX550M is a pretty basic bass. Alder body, maple neck and fingerboard with a 3D headstock which is a mixture of black and maple. Electronics-wise it’s PJ pickup configuration with a master tone, master volume and a blend pot. The neck attaches with 4 asymmetrical bolts. The 2 separate bolt plates are flush to the body which is nice touch. The whole bass is pretty light with a slim neck and it’s so easy to play. It sounds great too with a really solid, punchy sound which doesn’t loose it’s roundness even up high. All in all, I’m so pleased to have found one of these basses again. When I told my Father-in Law about it I said it’s a nice end to the story. He disagreed saying it’s a new start. I think he might be right!!

14. Oooo. Dingwall loveliness
15. Great story Hopefully, the Stonehenge set will be the right height.....
16. Had a SUB4 in for a setup a couple of weeks ago. I was really impressed with the quality of it (which made my life a lot easier) and it sounded great too. The owner wanted it setup for CGCF and it took that without any trouble at all. Never been much of a Stingray fan as I prefer other basses at that price point but the SUB is hard to ignore.
17. Yup, an ACG Graft would be a great choice for a 5 string. I'm going to through Dingwall into the ring as well. I'm really, stupidly impressed by my Combustion 5. The fanned frets need very little adjustment and the low end is really even. It's light as well and it looks the business. What more could you want.
18. Great post '51 P looks good.
19. Some pickup foam compresses over time and just looses it's spring. For replacement, try some foam from a kitchen sponge. I've done this mod a bunch of times and have wandered the aisles of Tesco squeezing packs to get the right kind of springiness. Sounds mad I know, but it works. When you get under the pickup it's just a matter of cutting a piece the same length and width as the old piece. There's a few pics on my Facebook page which could be useful.
20.
With the exception of replacing any damaged cables/patch leads/strings/general consumables I will not buy another bass, am, cab, pedal, pedalboard etc etc etc for 12 months…
3 words for ya. Ain't.....gonna......happen Bargains are hard to resist and they'll turn up when you're not really looking for them. I do admire your attempt though.....
21.
Well simple answer is, if it sounds fine, it is fine!
Yup, there are no rules I've been playing 7's (strung B-F) for the last 8 years or so. I was in a rock band where I could trade solos with the guitarist and played a fretless Yamaha TRB 6 II for a few years which was heavy!! I then saw Bill Dickens playing a 7 and thought "why not?", so I bought a Conklin GT7 via eBay in the USA. When I had the opportunity to order a Sei bass a couple of years ago it had to be a 7 and I then had the Conklin de-fretted and ramped by Jon Shuker (and what a marvellous job he did as well!). The Conklin is ash with a maple top and weighs 14lbs (yup 1 stone!!). The bolt-on neck is wenge and purpleheart and is topped with a wenge board. Electronics are the standard Bartolinis. My Sei 7 (named Jezebel by my wife) has a walnut core with lacewood top. The thru-neck is wenge and maple and is topped with a birds-eye maple board with my signature inlaid at the 12th fret. The side of the neck has purple LED's as I had to have them Electronics are really straightforward with just a custom-wound Kent Armstrong pickup wound by Aaron Armstrong. The side of the body has a series/parallel switch and a XLR output next to the standard input jack. Knobs are from Q-Parts. It's the flexibility of having a 7 which is the thing. If I want to play a solo I have the range and if I don't need it I don't have to use it!! Virtually every bassist who has played my 7 has got the idea of it within about 5 minutes or so. OK, there's more strings but it's not difficult to play. It's more difficult dealing with the "why do you need more strings question!". If you;re going for an ACG you're in good hands. Alan has some great materials there as well as bespoke pickups and filter preamp. The pre already goes does to 20Hz so it's good for that low F# you're planning.
22.
My modded (by someone else) '77 Precision, taking a well earned rest on my bed (soft toys not shown)/
As there's no settee in sight, I think soft toys should be shown
23. Very cool. Great job
24. I've had my Dingwall Combustion for a couple of weeks now. It's a ridiculously good bass. It's light, sounds great and the fanned frets are easy to get used to although it's a little more difficult up the dusty end! I tried several 5 strings before I got this and it knocks spots off them. If you can try one then try one
