That's a wonderful instrument. No price though. Remember the saying: If you have to ask how much, then you can;t afford it.

The Carvin was 15mm, which was less than my 7 string basses. The bass sounded immense, but (for me) was uncomfortable to play. It's gone to a good home though which I'm pleased about.
The other thing is use the exchange rate to calculate what basses are cheaper there than here, because some come out to the same price and some will save you roughly £2-300.
Yup, agreed. It seems in general that buying European brands in the USA is pretty much useless. Search other brands and especially the used market and the bargains spring up. MM 5's are plentiful as are Ibanez, Schecter and Fenders. There are US websites like Musician's Friend and Guitar Center with a mixture of used and new and the world is indeed your oyster. Another surprising site is Amazon. There are huge savings out there, but the search gets a lot harder of you want something out of the ordinary. Specialist sites like Bass Northwest are great, but don't keep their websites up to date. I've missed out on 2 basses already due to stock not being marked as sold. Luckily, I have a OneTel account so my overseas phone calls are cheap, but it's still annoying. The most annoying thing is "call for price". I know there's a lot of politics with pricing, but in my situation that's not a lot of help.

Surely stores should see the problems with their stock before potential customers get their mitts on them. Players shouldn't have to have their time wasted by poorly setup instruments or find problems like loose hardware and so on. It does get my goat My wife is on her way to Florida this week and so the plan is to buy something there. There's still an advantage of buying in the US esp. if it's used or demo!

That's a great setup.

Jazz Bass Series Wiring (No Push Pull switch)

I found this on Talkbass EDIT: Just realised the questions were identical -
I had a similar kind of problem and sweat bands just didn't work. In the end I bought some Adidas stuff for basketball players. It was a liquid which turned into a powder and it worked great. No more sweaty hands. I've had a quick Google and can't find it but there's a similar product called Beal Pure Grip which is used by athletes and climbers to keep hands dry and sweat free.

I had an Ibanez bass in for a setup last week. The owner had bought it for a song and wanted it setup before a gig at the weekend. However, I found a problem with the strap button. This is what can happen if you the matchstick/cocktail stick fix without gluing it I drilled the strap button hole out to 3/16" for a piece of dowel. One end of the dowel is shaped into a blunt nose and the sides have small slits in them so the glue can squeeze out. I then hammered it in flush and use a punch to push it in fraction more. I left that overnight then drilled a small pilot hole before drilling a larger hole to accept the strap button screw.

I hope any prospective buyers haggle hard

Now I've sold a couple of instruments, I'm in the process of shopping. A NBD is coming I've seen the Dingwall Combustions and am really taken by them. I've also seen other basses like the Laklands 55's, Daryl Jones and then other interesting basses like the Bolin NS5's Has anyone got any opinions of any of these. Any thoughts much appreciated.

Could anyone interested in this bass please bear in mind the price is £450 PLUS p&p to wherever you are. For various reasons, I can't drop the price any further By the way, For p&p I use P4D which is the cheapest way I've found of sending parcels in general. You get great prices for various couriers (DHL, TNT, Parcelforce) as well as quotes for guaranteed times and Saturday delivery. I've sent several things through there, including a Dano guitar just last week.

Price drop to £450 (+ p&p at cost). Can't go lower than this I'm afraid Just to say that the Kahler is a factory fitted option which is no longer offered. Also a new Carvin LB75 in the same colour is now £1573! This doesn't include the trem so added buying that, getting the bass routed and the trem fitted for a new equivalent bass. I can send more photos to anyone who's interest and if your near Glasgow, you're welcome to pop in and try it out.

Luverly bass Never seen that colour before.

Kubicki are pretty darn cool It's all subjective, but I'll echo the Sei shout and throw James Tyler into the ring now he's back making basses again.

There a solid body version coming out. Maybe that will be a bit cheaper as it might be less expensive to produce.

Fantastic stuff. I'll look into everything mentioned here! Just selling my Carvin to part finance something new. The electronics are really the only piece of the jigsaw I'm not sure of, so this thread has been great for me.

Thanks for the replies The thing I really want to avoid is that thin, nasty bridge sound. I need a big round tone!! Ou7shined - I've had a quick look on the net for Bill Lawrence bass pickups and drawn a zero. The Fralins always have a great rep. Thanks for the suggestions. The OPB-3 mentioned just opens up another can of worms. Which preamp (if any) to use). Oh dear..... Simon1964 and daniel collin - Can you guys give me the specific models you have! Thanks again. This is all a great help

Looks fantastic. ....and pickups without exposed polepieces (hurrah).

I hope some of you can help me with this. I've got plans for a 5 string J-bass, but choosing pickups is the worst bit! I'm a rock player, so I need some big sounding J pickups. Just want to turn everything up and plug in. I've heard good things about Delano and Wizards, but any suggestions are greatly appreciated
