6. Notice Absolute Music and Guitar Village are still selling these (currently at £1099, although I'm sure Guitar Village was advertising it at £999 yesterday and literally gone up £100 in the last 24 hours!). Appreciate this topic is over a year old but considering one of these right now, as I regretted selling my 20yr old musicman (which incidentally had a 3 band EQ). Can anyone advise me - do the 3 band EQ and 2 band EQ stingrays sound the same and quite simpy the 3 band EQ just gives you more flexibility over adjusting the sound, or do they actually different sounding basses? Also to be sure, do they feel the same or are there any differences in weight, quality of workmanship etc. Guessing they sound the same and are built the same aside from the EQ electronics but any advice from experience of both of these appreciated. Lastly, a minor point but looking at the Ernie Ball website (http://www.music-man.com/instruments/basses/classic-stingray-4.html) I can't see any mention of a 3EQ classic stingray - suggests they don't make them anymore which seems highly unlikely.
7. Lovely grain on the body. Beautiful bass. Good luck with the sale Paul - someone will get a bargain!
8. I can vouch for the dog! For what it's worth Julian's a good friend and this bass is a stunner. He's a very genuine guy so you can buy with confidence. Good luck with the sale mate. Can't believe you're selling it though
9. Clarky - can't believe you're selling it! And given up on the flamenco?!! I bought his Thumb he 'foolishly sold' and Clarky is a top guy to deal with. I've seen and played his 5-string and it's a beautiful bass both in sound and looks. Good luck with the sale buddy.
10. I bought my first Warwick Thumb a few weeks ago and researched as much as poss as a nice one isn't cheap and unfortunately you need to travel around to get your hands on one. Loads of good advice already on here but if it helps: Definitely play one before buying it if you can. Before I bought mine I played a mix of 4/ 5 strings, bolt ons/neck thrus, new/secondhand and they were all very different. Admittedly it wasn’t set up but playing a brand new bolt on at £1500 was completely uninspiring – a 20 year old bolt on 5-string at £750 was stunning both in sound (possibly due to different PUP position) and fast playability. I ended up buying a 2004 4-string neck thru - different league in the looks dept. The bubinga pomelle finish, thru neck and ebony fretboard make it a sheer pleasure to play. I’ve owned my bass for about 5 weeks now and I cannot put it down. I even sometimes take one last look at it before I go to bed (I KNOW I shouldn’t admit that ). The weight is heavy but emphasises the cracking build quality. There is great depth to the high notes - previous basses I’ve played have been tinny when playing notes on the D and G strings – not on a Thumb. The neck IS long and can take a bit of getting used to. If you're trying one out play it standing up – completely different experience to when you’re playing it on your knee. There’s a good link on you tube which gives a nice demo on the sound options – all I can add is be sure the Thumb sound suits the band you play in as it's distinctive and may prove challenging (as it currently is for me playing in a rock covers band): Sorry to ramble on. Hope it helps. If you're ever passing through Swindon you are welcome to drop in and have a play on mine.
11. Just bought a beautiful Warwick Thumb NT 4 string from Clarky. He's a great guy, been exceptionally helpful & supportive in my quest for a Thumb and a font of bass knowledge. No hesitation recommending doing business with him. Cheers mate. And still got a big massive grin on my face looking at my new Thumb
12. Shame you weren't UK based - this is exactly what I'm looking for currently. Lovely condition - clearly well looked after. Import duties make this a showstopper for me. Good luck with the sale. Have a bump on me
13. Complete long shot but if sale(s) fall through please let me know - I'm also interested.
