  1. Love it. It almost looks like a sort of solo. And yes, I agree, it is exactly what we should all be doing.
  2. Perhaps your intention (i.e., what you want out of this as an experience) has changed over time? Perhaps the others' hasn't. It's always good to be honest, and if you're not getting what you want out of it any more, maybe let the others know and look elsewhere. There's no need for acrimony, just clarify everyone's position and make a decision.
  3. Good idea. I've now done that. Thanks for the suggestion.
  4. The Dreadful Grate?
  5. That is really very kind of you, especially offering to massively retune an instrument, but having practiced the material a lot, it has to be a fiver. Thanks so much for the offer, Paul
  6. In theory yes, but when I factor in the petrol, plus it is a big ask of one of my siblings, the Thomann basses make more sense.
  7. Calling @Bunion - you are a very naughty man. If I could figure out a way to get this up to the Wirral... hmmm Thanks for taking the trouble, much appreciated, Paul
  8. Doh! Thanks for the response. At least I can take a look 👍
  9. Can anyone remember what the term is that they use on Thomann for instruments that are damaged (I don't mean B-Stock, worse than that) and that they sell off cheap as chips - or should I say even cheaper than cheap as chips, but that have often proved to be playable?
  10. Thanks Paul, that is super kind of you. I am gradually gravitating towards the same solution.
  11. Guys, thank you so much for your kind offers, but despite my own statement at the top of the thread, having worked on the material a lot since then I have realised that I really do need a 5-string. I'm not the greatest sight-reader, so I'm essentially learning lines/patterns that would require a different position on a 4-string (granted, a useful exercise, but not with the time constraints I am under) and it's muscle memory I am working on for this gig. Thanks again and sorry for wasting anyone's time.
  12. Unfortunately, the above makes that impractical.
  13. A wife 2 kids and a ton of luggage.
  14. I set myself up for that, didn't I? 😂 It would be churlish to turn down such an opportunity. Those prices are good, but if I buy, then probably a Harley Benton from Thomann, starting at 109 quid. Thanks for the suggestion though.
  15. Thanks, but it's just a stop gap while I'm here and, lovely as they are, a little out of my price range.
  16. Hiya, I did consider that. It just feels a bit... mean of me? I think I might just go ahead and buy one to leave with one of my siblings that I can use on future visits. Or maybe resell at a small loss.
  17. Shameless, self-interest type bump.
  18. Sorry, I expressed myself poorly there. I meant the sweeps going along conveyor belts or through passages that wouldn't have been possible on a dolly. The cuts are, as you say, quite short and choppy.
  19. How very helpful. Nice one Dad.
  20. Would those long, continuous shots have been filmed using a mini-drone?
  21. Greetings BCers, I need to ask a favour. Could anyone possibly lend me a bass, so I can get the odd bit of practice in, in-between? Ideally a 5-string, but I would simply be glad of any help. I'm originally a Wallasey lad, but now live in Berlin. I am visiting the family in Wallasey from July 28th - August 10th. Immediately after my return to Berlin, I am doing my first show covering for a colleague - easy stuff but a ton of fiddly transitions and modulations. I am prepping now, but a 2-week hiatus directly before jumping in without a rehearsal is… suboptimal. Thanks for any help, Paul
  22. Look on the bright side. Your legs are so good you can actually hear it!
  23. Oooh, all the markings of a deftly dodged bullet there matey!
