1. Over a grand is a bit steep for a JV isn't it?
 2. I live in Berlin which also has an excellent local transport system. Most of my gigs are in theatres or clubs with their own backline. Some theatres even insist on playing a house instrument to keep sound as consistent as possible. Theatre jobs are usually done by 10:45 and transport runs tiil about 12:30 in the week and all night on Friday and Saturday. Most of my gigs are in the city. The out of town jobs I do generally have backline on the rider. On rare occasions when it's necessary I take a taxi or rent a car.
 3. I have effectively one case for all my basses. They're mostly very Fender-shaped so one size fits all. Most gigs I do, there's backline provided, so I often travel to gigs on public transport using a gig-bag (I have one of those for each bass). Exceptions are my Eastwood Classic 4 which is a Gretsch-type shape and demands its own case and the '78 BB1200 which came with original case. The basses I'm not using stand around in my room in gig-bags. Standing/hanging on display is not an option 'cos I have 2 young children.
 4.
Here's an obscure one. I used to live in a flat above a shop and the newsagent next door was owned by the sister of Welsh bassist Andy 'Wal' Coughlan, who played with among others Gary Numan,Shakin Stevens and Cerys Matthews.
Now there's some PROPER obscure 👏👏👏👏
 5.
I played through Lemmy's Signature Marshall stacks a few days before he first did. And with a Fender bass too
You didn't!
 6.
I also sat on the table next to Roscoe Beck at the Jazz Cafe whilst he ate his dinner.
We did a couple of gigs as support for The Blue Line in the earely 90s. Roscoe Beck was very interested in my SKC Bogart 5-string Jazz bass and we had a couple of nice chats about it. Back then he had a 4er and a 6er but no 5er.
 7.
Rick Kemp (stealeye Span) used my TC combo for a rehearsal, and changed the settings lol
Ruddy cheek!

 9. Lovely basses and absolute tone-monsters but not for the faint-hearted weightwise.
 10.
There's enough criticism of MK's style already on here... oh hang on a minute
Oooh, beat me to it!
 11. @Lowdown, I loved that AWB version of Walk on By (I also love the Stranglers version). Thanks for posting.
 12.
Even as a huge Elvis Costello fan I have to agree this is the finest version of a wonderful song. However, is it a cover? It was originally written for Wyatt, with Costello recording it slightly later.
Watching the video I thought I recognised Bedders from Madness and while checking read this. Just FYI for everyone.. According to Clive Langer, he had written the tune for Robert Wyatt but was not happy with the lyrics that he had written himself. Langer played the tune to Costello at a party hosted by Nick Lowe, and within days Costello had produced what he described as "the best lyrics I've ever written".[1] In a 1983 interview with NME, Mark Bedford of Madness, who played stand-up double bass on the single, recounted the history of the song: "At first Robert Wyatt wasn't involved. The original plan was to release four different versions of the song, which was then called 'Ten to Nine', as an EP with four different guest vocalists. There were going to be versions of the song by Elvis, Clive and Steve Allen [Langer's former bandmate in the 1970s group Deaf School], but once Elvis had done some more work on the lyrics and changed the song to 'Shipbuilding', they decided to approach Robert Wyatt and his version was so special that it came out as a straight single."[3]
 13.
Have a listen to this guy,if you've not already heard of him.Him and his bassist do acoustic covers of nearly everything. He has one of the best voices I've heard in years. This is a great cover of Toto's 'Africa' https://www.youtube....h?v=MLrC7e3vSv8
Wow, what a voice, and the bass-player's no slouch on backing-vocals either. I sense many lost hours of you-tubing headed my way. Thanks for that 😉
 14. Sorry I can't be there. Have a wonderful time and all the very best. I hope you all have a blast.
 15. This tune isn't a typical blues, but it's one of my favourite bass solos, played by the very excellent Dave Bronze with Eric Bibb. The bass solo starts around 3:15. http://youtu.be/uwSbiWkY15I
 16.
Back on topic: fans of Donald Fagan might also be fans of Rosie Vela, whose 1986 album 'Zazu' sounds like 'The Nightfly' but with a female singer.
Ooh, now you've gotten me all curious.
 17.

. I thank you! I'm here all week, try the fish.
 18. One of my favourite albums, I've always found it magical when listened to at night, but much less so in the daytime. Not entirely surprising given the late night radio theme but interesting nontheless.
 19.
In the Talkbass thread - linked above. The rest of it isn't anywhere near as interesting, although AFAICS the drummer appears to play standing up behind a conventional kit.
Yep, that's his signature Ting.
 20.
Maybe I should know but who is that
It's Rodrigo Gonzalez from the German band "Die Ärzte" - (the Doctors). ....they are known for having a sense of humour...
 21. Upon closer inspection, that appears to be a huge stack caught midway through its collapse onto the bass-player.
 22.
very clever we jammed with acoustics and a cajon last night, no buggery at all
Oh come onnnnnn, not even a little?
 23. Great to hear from him again. Thanks for posting.
 24.
Are you all watching on PCs or something? It's not available to me.
Couldn't see number 1 (only number 2) on my iphone. Could see both fine on my computer at home.
