1.
Best opening chord . B flat sus 2 - Prince - Purple Rain , great great intro .
+1 Also, admittedly the second track on the album, but I'm Not In Love by 10cc.
2. Ooh can of worms there. I've done duo gigs in pubs that way. Guitarist singer and me (no drum-machine). If you're both reasonably tight timewise it can work fine. Why is sex without a condom like a drummer? It's nicer without but these days you have to really.
3. The idea does have appeal, I just resent giving the cheeky b#gger of a seller the dosh. He clearly doesn't care one way or the other as long as he get's the cash. Having said that, his varied responses to our diverse joke-offers, do seem to indicate a sense of humour there...
4.
I managed about 10 seconds...
I was seven notes in (I counted) before I managed to reach the off button, so maybe 3.5 seconds. Can anyone top that?
5. Yep, very good call and congrats to the OP for having the scariest avatar on BC
6. As long as the action isn't so high that it effects intonation that's not really a problem. Those polyurethane strings are mega low tension.
7. Very nice indeed. New to me. Thanks for posting.
8.

In all fairness, if I were contractually obliged to go out on stage dressed like that, it would take substantially longer than 40 minutes to talk me into it every night.
9. My only buying experiences with Mark (an MM Stingray, a Genz Benz 112 and various cables) were excellent. As for his 'prejudices' regarding some equipment, frankly I'm glad of a salesperson who has opinions and doesn't just tell me that whatever it is I want (i.e. whatever it is he can sell me) is the business. I don't have to agree with him, but discussing it with someone else can help me check my own motivation and see if I'm not barking up a wrong tree. A GAS-filter if you will
10. Inspired by the "Netflix Documentaries" thread on here (but not wanting to hi-jack it), I'd like to recommend this low-budget documentary. Musically it mixes the blues with Tuvan throat-singing. It tells an amazing and moving story of how blind blues singer/guitarist Paul Pena ended up travelling across half the world to take part in a music festival in Tuva (on the northern border of Mongolia). This is proving very hard to describe... here's a youtube link to the film, anyway. https://www.youtube....h?v=s8Lr_27MkzA I hope you enjoy it. The music is so incredible, as is the two men's friendship.
11. I found, when struggling to get evenness between high/ low octave, that reducing the amount of plucking force on the lower octave helped. The lower octave is, by nature, louder and trying to match this with the higher octave lead to problems with timing and cramping in the plucking hand. The relative volume made a difference and reducing pressure low down proved easier than adding volume/pressure high up. Try it and see?
12.
apparently I'll be getting one of these http://www.facebook...?type=3
Ooh, I'm tempted to order one of them for myself. Problem is, then my cover's blown
13.
Funniest one I saw was at Shepherds Bush Tedeschi Trucks Band. We were outside having a last ciggie before curtain up when Derek Trucks himself strolls round the corner, collar up and hands in pockets. Up jumps the tout who offers two tickets "cheap at arf the price". Mr. Trucks looked him straight in the eye, burst out laughing and casually strode up the steps into the Empire. Oh, how we larfed. Tout then asked "Who the f**k does he think he is?" We didn't say a word. Says it all, really!
That's just put a great big grin all over my face. Thanks for that.
14. Forgive my ignorance, but, based on your comments, these basses ain't too hot then? Shame, 'cos it looks pretty cool. What problems do they generally have?
15.
For panto work I think you'll find that you need Buttons ..
Oh no he doesn't! (it's already been done, I know, but this is panto thread so don't expect this to stop anytime soon)
16. Absolutely brilliant. Classic Bowie-type excellent wierdness.
17.
We always used to lowball the first guy we saw, say offering a tenner. If he replied they`re going for twenty we`d just move on. Usually he`d say "well everyones selling them for twenty" we`d reply fine, we`ll give the next guy twenty, but not you. Usually they`d then take the tenner. Some didn`t, but most of the time it worked.
Judging by the prices you mention, this would have been in the late 70s, early 80s then? :-)
18.
Having just today received a 32" Finn from Alan I can guarantee you're in for a real treat Damn his basses are good.
Ooh Misses! (Frankie Howard voice)
19.
I'll chuck in 50p towards it - how we going to carve it up if we win?
Using a chainsaw perhaps?
20. What a top chap. "Simple" gestures like that can be so life affirming. Hope you're feeling better now. Thanks for posting.
