  1. What i was hoping to achieve was more of a B15 type tone from one of the channels in the same way that some guitar amps have differently voiced preamp sections, being able to have one amp with 3 or 4 classic sounding preamps in would be ideal. What made me think of changing valves was the already present baxandall eq on 3 of the 4 channels, everything i'd read was said the 6SL7 valve sounded more musically pleasing and had been swapped using a secondry 9 pin to 8 pin converter. I'll the trying lower gain valves first tho. I'm not looking for exact cloned tones as that'd be impossable to achieve in one valve amp without some form of modeling.
  2. I was looking at changing the valves in my valve pa head from the standard 12ax7 to a 6SL7 as it also has a baxandall eq. The only problem i've read about is the added noise. Has anyone tried this?
  3. I use almost the same setup when i get the chance. Using guitar channel for normal playing then a bit of grind from the bass channel as it's got more gain via an a/b switch, also great with a Ric via stereo output. I got mine blackfaced, sends more gain to the poweramp and makes it sound more pre cbs 60's
  4. crazy price but it is ebay and MIJ is popular atm
  5. The Quad 6 was Warwicks flagship amp form the mid 90's to early 00's. Seeing it being used by session pros wasn't uncommon as it covers everything from Eden style super clean to SVT on 11 in a 600 watt 2 unit package. I've been playing this amp for the past 12 years in various bands and genres and never been unable to get a good and fitting tone. I've not played through many amps that with a flat eq will make almost any bass sound amazing. A quick google search will tell you that the Quad 6 has three 12ax7's and an el84. The rebranded version of the Quad 6, the tubepath was available in a 500 and 1000 watt version but used 2 fewer valve stages in the preamp. The power section of the Quad 6 has an el84 at the front end to give all the valve power amp drive and dirt without the weight and drives a 600 watt mosfet monster of a power section. The Quad 6 is very different from other hybrid amps, it's more a valve amp without the on going costs of servicing. I'd be looking for £400 for this amp but that includes a 3u flightcase. I'm more than happy to consider trades on this
  6. Best DI i've played through is a Type 85. Great for valve amps when used between the amp and cab, like a bleed free mic

  11. 1U stereo rack compressor, ideal for matching two basses to a single amp input. Message for pics £65 + postage

  13. The guitar store near southampton station is good, the one with the fender amp shopfront. £50 seems fairly standard but home setup isn't hard when using the right tools. Sorry to hear that about Adam at Fret, never had a problem with him
  14. I got my bassman 100 blackfaced and it screams in a very good way when abused with my Ric
  15. I've owned this for several years and found many different uses for it. It's 1u, Mosfet, 100 watts a side and produced more than enough volume when i used it for smaller gigs as part of a small stereo rig. Paired with a stereo eq produces an amp that can be used with an instrument in a 2 unit rack case. Being a Mosfet amp it can be over driven like a valve amp and won't give you that really nasty distortion other transisitor amps are known for. Pictures to follow
