1. Hi Keith, Yes, of course! I'm just sorry it took so long!! Cheers, Daf
2. Hubrads up first! He was having trouble posting so has pm'd me...
3. Hi Everyone, I have a set of the new prototypes we've been working on ready for beta-testing, so if anyone's up for it I'd appreciate some feedback... (It'll be a pass around like with the other trial sets.) The idea behind them is to get a string that has a good jazz pizz sound but is as easy to bow as possible with good definition and fundamental to the note - they're not a full sustaining modern jazz string (someone described them as "Paul Chambersy") so they still have that "Innovation sound" but with a bit more brightness and low end definition. I'm particularly looking for people who do both jazz and arco to test them if possible please... I need to know in particular how the tension and tone feels across the set - I've tested them on all five of my basses ranging from an old english through german factory to a modern ply, but as the tension can vary so much on different basses and we need to come up with a set that works on the majority of instruments I'd appreciate some more guinea pigs. Thanks! 4. Hi all, Anyone know where we're at? Ta, Daf
5. Hi Chris, Done! Actually, does anyone know where these are at the moment?
6. Hi Clarky, Hmm... i can see your idea of trying a heavier E to try and get a bit more "tone". I know Sam Burgess (Ronnie Scotts house bassist) loves the silver slaps for jazz, but as we all know, a string can sound/feel so different on two different basses... As for the tape wound strings, well, i know a lot of people have mentioned how much they like the amplified sound of the rockabillys, particularly the solid fundamental; so I'd think they're worth a try. Also, as you're not far from me, if you get a chance, why not pop over to Victoria and try the prototypes on my bass. Interesting comment about the feel of the honeys - not come across that before... Cheers, Daf
7. Hi Sy, Not being a slap player myself I'm not actually familiar with the psycho-slaps, but my impression from the factory is that they're actually about the same tension as the gold/silver slaps, just thicker; so it may be that the super-silvers would be closer to what you're after. That said, you are, of course, welcome to try them anyway (you may as well try both and see which you prefer!).... Just one word of caution - as I mentioned in the OP you'll almost certainly have to open up the nut slots for the psychos, so it may be best to try the supers first..? That said, if you'd just like to give them a go anyway, just pm me your address and I'll get them out to you. Cheers, Daf
8. Hi Dave, Thanks for that! And I think, after you've gone to such trouble with the recordings and all, it's only fair that you keep hold of them until someone else wants to try them... Just try not to wear them out!
9. Thanks for that - i wasn't going to post until the repairs were finished and i know more, but i just want to say that i appreciate the support. There are so many things George has said that i have issue with, but as i say, i'm going to wait till the repairs are done before i reply. Cheers, Daf
10. They used to make a whole range of them for different instruments, some of which had the lead at one end - perhaps the one you have isn't bass specific?
11. Hi John, Will do! - actually on a related note, tiki's after you with the honeys, but he's in Belgium.... If the postage is a but steep please just send them to me and I'll post them on. Cheers, Daf
12. Bow better than the honeys - Wow! Never would have expected that... Glad you're enjoying them.
13. Hi Rudders, Certainly! you're on the list. I know Sarah's had a bit of a wait for her bass, but I think it's arrived now, so give her a couple of weeks and I'm sure she'll be in touch... Cheers, Daf
14. Hi John, We've tried to keep it to a couple of weeks each or there about, but Christmas is a tricky time so I'm sure everyone would understand if you kept them a little longer.. Cheers, Daf
15. Ah! Thanks for that - I'll drop him a quick PM...
16.
how does it sound unplugged?
Doh! Why didn't I think of that?
17. I think it may be to do with the direction of the vibration of the string - my old Ns designs had a control to alter the the pickup to suit pizz or arco because the string vibrates in a different plane with bowed and i noticed that the outer strings were a lot quieter with arco if this wasn't set correctly - try bowing perpendicular to the bass body to see if it is louder (without bashing the bass if you can! )
18. What pickup are you using? Sorry if its stating the obvious, but is it a magnetic? Or a built in bridge one like the Ns designs?
19. A useful tip regarding the microphonic lead... If you loop a section of the lead you'll find that the wire in the loop and after it is no longer microphonic. Weird! - but very useful...
20. Hi all, Just doing a bit of housekeeping.... Anyone know where we're at at the moment? Ta, Daf P.S. I've added a list of people in the opening post.
