1. Recorded some fretless for this track a few weeks ago - using my trusty old warwick thumb with an ACG EQ-1 pre-amp.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRQcyU5nYRo Wadda-ya-think?....
2. Hi Ollie, Did they say why they wouldn't work on the bass?
3. And another pm... though too late by the look of it!
4. Ah, fair enough... but, YUCK! that's proper medicine that is! - horrible, but good for you!... must give it a try....
5. at first glance i'd have thought that you'd be using your thumb for the Eb's which would place it on the D string - is that not the fingering suggested?
6. also, not wishing to put a downer on a good idea, but best to be aware that it probably won't work with arco....
7.
hey ladies and gentlemen i study engineering at college and for next year i have to do a project on a product or tech thats got a problem with it or find a way making it more efficient. if your suffering and problems with gear preferably stuff with pedalboards, stompboxes or ambs and any other tech please let me know. thanks dan
Hi Dan, Welcome! I'm really surprised you've not had any takers on this yet.... or replies.... but it's a great offer and i'm sure someone will take you up on it soon! consider this a bump cheers, Daf
8.
PS. Before someone asks me about the glove i wear on my left hand in the vids... i've got a neurological condition called Focal Dystonia which causes misfiring neurons in my brain to cause unwanted movements in my fingers of both hands that i can't control (It just so happened on the days i recorded the vids my right hand was behaving its self as normally i wear them on both hands). Luckily the glove acts as a sensory trick and keeps the movements to a minimum. There super thin and tight... so don't try wearing ya winter woolies!!
Hi Scott, An oboist friend of mine also suffers from dystonia (about four years) but has recently found a chap in spain who has done wonders for him. it's a slow process but he has recovered some control that he hasn't had in at least 2 years.... if you'd like any more info on the guy just let me know and i'll get the details off my friend. that obviously goes for anyone else who's interested too! cheers, Daf
9. +1 for steve laws! in fact if you check out his web site http://www.oakdenemusicservices.co.uk/Oakd...ng_Gallery.html The scottish 1869 and the german 1895 are both mine...
10. i had one for a few years - and had a few problems... the one i remember best was that the after about 6 months of use the headphone socket twisted somehow and made a connection which cut out the main speaker - a small but critical fault! I also recall a problem with one of the pots... had it for about 5 years before trying a pjb briefcase and part-exchanging it on the spot! just no comparison for sound... though to be fair i do have a problem with the mains connector on the pjb - there's always something isn't there!
11.
I have also been considering a PJB B100 Cub. Walbassist has one and is going to let me have a go sometime.
Like i said, i wholeheartedly recommend the pjb - but... the cub doesn't have the low end extension of the briefcase so do try and hear the two together if you can.
12. Check out the acg eq-02 or some of the other john east designs.... i have an eq-01 in my '89 thumb and it's stunning. see my review http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...amp;hl=daflewis gary won't sell the 01 anymore unless it's fitted to one of his basses, but the 02 is very similar. if you can't face the extra hole in your bass john east does a variety of great preamps with three knob control options...
13. i can wholeheartedly recommend the phil jones briefcase. it will struggle with a loud drummer, but for any other acoustic setting it's spot on, small and light.
14.
As another 60s B+H owner (Hi Teej...), and long time buyer and seller, I'd say that looks a very cool and desirable bass. I sold a very similar, fantastic sounding bass a while back. Not for quite that much though. +1 to the 'don't let plywood put you off'. This will make an amaziong student / gigging / roots / blues / jazz bass. Unless it has any issues of course...
Sorry! not been paying attention.... Thanks for the bump Paul, and yes i think perhaps a slight readjustment of price may be in order.... will have to talk with my friend who owns it (though i know he'll seriously consider any reasonable offers anyway). I've only played the bass for about 20 mins but there certainly didn't appear to be anything wrong with it that a new set of strings and a set up wouldn't sort. Cheers.
15.
I absolutely LOVE the Evahs ! I have the medium evahs on both my orch bass and my jazz. I have a set of the Evah weichs but found them too rubbery. I like a bit of resistance from the string. Bilbo is trying them at present (what do think Bilbo ? like em ?). When he lets me have them back, I'd be happy for you to try them Daf.
Hi Major, Thanks for the offer - That would be really great! It was the weichs i was particularly interested in as you'd obviously guessed.... come on Rob, hurry up with them!! cheers, Daf
16. my experience... i rate the corelli savarez highly - but they are very thin and light - not to everyones taste. I also love (and am currently using) obligatos. (in fact i use the solo set tuned to concert pitch which gives a really soft feel that many other pro friends of mine have tried and loved. you can't dig in with a bow as it tends to strangle easily but that's not an issue for you - just mention it for others reading this.) I hate helicores with a passion! (though i know a lot of people love them) and was never fond of spirocores either, though it's been a long time since i've played them. Have heard great things about the evahs (similar to obligatos apparently) and they are the next strings i'd like to try (though they are quite expensive.) just my opinion, hope it helps.... cheers, Daf
17. and replied to... Cheers, Steve.
18. Hi, Just a link to the for sale section... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=89263 Cheers, Daf
19. Hi, I have a bow quiver that i'm just not using. It's a leather lightweight one that looks a lot like this: http://www.finecases.com/browse/reunion-bl...blues-2000.html (the brown one - though it's not a reunion blues) It cost me £40 and is virtually unused, so.... £25 inc. postage (firm) cheers, Daf
20.
I thought you meant Incredible String Band for a second there despite reading Bilbo's post a few seconds earlier. I bet they did use tea bags on a few recordings though.
21.
Rub it all over with gravy granules*. It might harm the varnish but the dog will LOVE it *NB this post was added for comedic effect. Rubbing your bass with gravy granules is NOT a method of ageing that is recommended by the International Society of Bassists.
you're right, the ISB recommend used tea bags.....
22. 1 vote for the Bass Merchant (for elixir at least!) great price and service.
