Hi Everyone, There has been some confusion recently about what to do when you've finished with the strings, so just a reminder for everyone... There's a list in the opening post of each topic that I update as often as I can, so you can keep an eye on where the strings are and also see who you need to contact when you're done with them. - (But it's all in the terms and conditions thread, which everyone has, of course, read... ) Cheers, Daf

yeh, i borrowed a schertler off crkelly to compare with the Ehrlund so i got to try some of that putty - very soft in comparison.... i tried it with the Ehrlund too and it didn't seem to make any noticeable sonic difference.

Hi Beer, As you probably know, i deal for Ehrlund, and their contact mic uses ordinary staedtler white-tack. The old blue-tack of years ago used to leak oil and could cause damage to varnish, but Ehrlund say that that's no longer the case and they've tested the white-tack and found it to be inert. I've certainly never had any problems. I do have a cellist friend who has reservations, but then again, his cello is worth well into six figures! Hope that helps. Daf

"Mature" ha! Like it!! Interesting comments - one of my deps in the show said something similar - though I seem to recall the word "old" rather than mature! (He's from London, but I'd have sworn he was a Yorkshireman speaking that plainly!) By the way, You mention the tension being similar to or a little under spiros - I'm assuming you mean the weichs? (I've not played spiros in many years and have never played the weichs) Ta, Daf

We've had a bit of a set-back with the RAB set - it's gone missing! So I've got another set from the factory - but we're going to have to look after this one! and just a reminder to everyone - the idea is to keep the strings for a maximum of about 2 weeks (though I understand that occasionally it may have to be a bit longer due to holidays etc..) then PM the next person for their address and send them on (there is a list in the opening post) Cheers, Daf

Hi Dave, I like it! I've had a number of people mention that the tensions tend to be higher on the top than the bottom with the Ultras and the Supers, and I think it's something I'm going to spend some time looking into when the new prototypes - "Polychromes" are finally on sale! I'd be really interested to hear/try your bass with that combination if there's any chance some day... On a purely aesthetic note - how's the half silver/half black look - Pretty funky?!

Of course, you could always borrow the trial set and try them out for free... sorry, probably should have mentioned that in my first post!

Hi Invicta, Err, actually I don't know the definitive answer! 😱 I've just had a look at the data sheets with all the formulae for how the strings are made up, and it would appear that, give or take a few thousandths of an inch, they are the same. (the super silvers just use heavier materials at more or less the same gauge). Though I don't have any real hands on experience of the supers, so if anyone has any comments/experience to the contrary, please chime in! Hope that helps Daf
