Hi Rob, Thanks for that, and it was nice to see you again on Saturday. we spoke about it when we met, but I just wanted to comment on here about the weight of the G string... it seems to be one of those oddities of the double bass - that they're all so individual! they've been tried out on about 15-20 basses and I've had comments about the G feeling a little higher tension on 3 of them (and I should stress, as you did, that the difference is slight...) Phil, Thanks for the update, and if you do get a chance to make those recordings it would be really helpful - thanks! Daf

Hi Johnny and Steve, thanks for the updates guys.. Johnny, thanks for the comments - yeh, arco is definitely not one of their strong points mainly due to the nylon wrap being inherently non-stick - just what you DON'T want! I suspect that your arco has improved because the only way to deal with the Ultras is to use a slower bow, which will transfer really well to a more arco friendly string... Cheers, Daf

Hi Dave, Thanks for that... and to be fair, they weren't really aimed at the same market as the RABs/Ultras/Slaps; more the jazz/classical/shows kind of player - easy on the fingers and easier with the bow... Hey, that could be the marketing slogan! By the way, it looks like we've come up with a name for them... "Polychrome" - they have a polymer core and a chrome-steel outer wrap; and the word also means "multicoloured" - I was rather pleased with that... What do you reckon? daf

Hi 2wheeler, Yeh, for someone who's just starting with a bow they're definitely worth a try! I'll put you on the list, though it's a bit of a wait at the mo! We've run out of the new prototype core, which is why things have stalled a bit - but we're hoping to get that sorted very soon. and I'll try and sort a second test set then as well to help move things along a bit quicker... Cheers, Daf

Hi Floyd, Sorry i didn't get back to you earlier on this, i've been away for the last week... The 140Bs are not actually in the trial, mainly because they aren't particularly popular and the prototypes MAY replace them rather than running along side.... That said, if there's enough interest, I'm sure i could sort out a test set...

My pleasure!

Hi Keith, Yeh, no worries! please pass it on... Cheers, Daf Peter, so you know, I ask that it's posted "special" so that it's insured and signed for if that's ok... (About £6-7) Also due to new postal regs Keith will have to remove the battery - used 9volts are now classed as dangerous goods! To replace it remove the screws on the end with the volume pot - the whole board then slides out. Enjoy!

Hi again Maude Yeh, a number of people have mentioned about the amplified sound of the RAB/Ultras - it seems that the darker sound and fewer upper harmonics of the strings mean that feedback is less of a problem and you get a stronger 'simpler" fundamental to the note... More thump and less growl.... Thanks for adding your thoughts - as always, much appreciated! And maybe you'll actually get to try those other strings soon...! Cheers, Daf

Hi Maude, Yep, got the same response myself a few days ago - he's got the trial prototype set too, so hopefully they're both in the post as we speak... And thanks for the comments about the trial - yeh, I had hoped it would pretty much look after itself, but it has turned out to be a lot more work than I thought...! To be fair, the vast majority of people have been brilliant - and taken the time to post their thoughts on the strings too, which is great for anyone thinking about the string and also really important feedback for the company!

Thanks for that, I'd been meaning to ask how you actually got on with it!

Thanks for posting this Keith, sorry, I've been a bit remiss recently - a crazy few weeks, so thanks for running with it! I'm a bit surprised no one has taken you up on the offer to try it yet, it seems the perfect chance for the price of the postage!
