I know what you are saying Billy and usually i would be following the route you have suggested. However. This is not going to be a main gigging bass for me any time soon. i am buying it as an experiment. I also really enjoy modding basses and i have a week off. its a bit of a project and that has its merit. The upgrades have cost me less than £40 thus far so i am not breaking the bank.
Cheers for that teamcoy. I have always been interested in Nordstrands. You are right the colours are similar. I think the picture of the Westfield looks like Candy Cola finish.

this is the bass i have ordered. I have started a build diary with my plans. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/201248-i-dont-like-p-basses-p-bass-customisation-thread/
Some of you may have seen my thread about being drawn to P basses even though i used to dislike them. This will never be my main bass but it should be a bit of fun.
I have ordered a Westfield P bass in a fetching metallic red http://www.stagebeat.com/Westfield-B1000-Bass-Guitar-Metallic-Red-015411-144048
I am planning a few customisations from mainly an aesthetic point of view.
I have ordered:
-Black bridge
-Black machine heads.
-Black stick on blocks ala Geddys Jazz.
-Black control knobs.
I am planning to order:
an all black scratch plate. It comes with a B/W/B and i want to wait to see how it looks.
A Wizard pickup.
In the long run i like the idea of fitting a jazz neck but that will be further down the line. I would also like a matching headstock in red.
I want a classic p bass sound any other pickup recommendations?
I can get a Precision sound from my ACGs fairly easily. My ACGs will always be my go to basses but i think its the simplicity of the the p bass I am drawn to.
I have had a search about and i was surprised you cant get a lefty squier p bass. You can get one with a Jazz pickup at the bridge nut i don't want that.
I think i am going to take a punt on one of those kits.
Haha. I really don't like the way they look, or the chunky necks or the number of frets, or the headstock or even the way they sound most of the time. Yet I am having to fight not to order one. I am agog.
So as you can see from my gear list I am not into classic basses. Over the last few months I have become drawn to the sound of flat wounds. What's more I am now gassing for a P bass! What has happened to me! I used to hate them. I am thinking about buying a DIY kit from eBay as it would give me a challenge.
Anyone tried these kits before?
Is it a Amboyna top? It looks different from my ACG http://www.acguitars.co.uk/Gallery/122/
Looks more like burl poplar but I am far from an expert. Either way it's a real looker.
I have a 7 string version. I really like it. The finish wasn't great so I'm in the process of refinishing mine. The balance isn't great and it's pretty heavy.
