1. Oh man i cant wait to see this beast. You must be getting excited. At least you have that other W and T lying around you lucky lucky man.
2. It looks awesome. If it was me i would have finished the headstock in black tho.
3. Bit of a mixed bag last night. Played at the Central with an Italian band called tasters choice (sounded a bit like il ninoor whatever they were called), Martyr Defiled (Deathcore) and Bleed from within (deathcore ish) We were the openers. We were told our load in and sound check was from 6. Turned up at 6 and the headliners were sound cheking. We found out we didn't need to bring a kit even after confirming with the promoter 2 hours before ;(. All the power on the stage was changed to European extensions so we couldn't plug my board in. in the end we got a 5 min line check:( and my ACG wouldnt work so i had to use my Warwick. Played pretty good, Some people came to see us just to watch us which makes a change. Overall don't think we went down too well with the deathcore crowd as we play melodic death.
4. This sounds awesome. Not usually my kind of thing but i am strangely drawn to it.
5. Nice. I have always really liked these. I prefer the plain black ones but that tobacco burst is cool.
6. I would love another ACG maybe a little less fancy so i dont have to worry so much playing it live. Just now i am more gassing for all valve amps.
7. I occasionally do this. Mainly in practice but has occasionally happened live. Luckily most of our songs are in C so i just wing it and it comes back after a few notes
8. I got my first bass in Windows but they were pretty unpleasant throughout the transaction. I used to go in to look at the books but its been a few years since i was in.
9. More metal bass players are always welcome.
10. My Rick Turner fretless Electroline was great for this. I put this down to the Piezo bridge.
11.
Haha, no, I work with a boy with severe learning disabilities. I go to his house 5 days a week and do stuff with him. For example, I am encouraged to bring musical instruments and play music, letting him join in. His idea of playing a guitar is putting the headstock in his mouth and plucking every string in order over and over again. This results in bite marks on the headstock...his guitars, and the banjo I gave him are so worn down and chewed up at the head it's unblievable. I've tried to tell him and show him how to actually do it but to no avail. We also go for walks, do jigsaw puzzles (I say DO jigsaw puzzles...as a loose term) dance around the playroom, or pretty much do whatever he wants (he points at a picture of something he wants to play with) But I've actually just got hold of an encore P bass which I will be taking in future.
That sounds like a great and rewarding job. Good Work
12. Its different for different basses for me. I am trying not to get my ACG bashed up but i am gigging it and i am, shall we say, pretty lively on stage. I guess i don't mind if one of my basses get hurt when gigging but if i mark them through my only stupidity i hate that.
13.
Pitchshifter with Sona Fariq and th Workhorse Movement, at Northumbria Uni. Not sure when, good few years ago though, It were a good 'un.
It was at Newcastle uni you blockhead Edit: Oh wait was it? Didn't i go with you? i cant remember now
14. Just a feeler just now but i may let my 6 string fretless Schecter go. I'm not playing as much fretless as i used to. It was professionally defretted by a shop in Nottingham and has contrasting fret lines to make it easier to play. I guess £500 of possible trades. Any interest if so i will take some pics.
15. Hey Jimmy i am Dyslexic and have a lot of problems with spelling and reading etc but i also have a masters degree so barriers can be overcome. Do you use Firefox? if not you should try it the spell checker does help me. It doesn't help with my grammar or odd sentence structure and phrasing but it makes it a bit easier for others to read. Belated Welcome to the forum.
16. There are a few things IMO that are critical to getting a good bass sound in death metal. 1. know your eq. Having your eq set up wrong will be your enemy in death metal. I would start by flattening everything add a fair low mid boost and go from there. DO NOT Whack the bass and treble right up your wasting your time. 2. Setup. If you want to cut through it is good to adopt a technique which allows you to get good clack. It is a constant battle between getting your action low enough and fret buzz but keep at it. Once you have mastered this you shouldn't need to play so hard so you can keep your stamina.
17.
Could take some time!
Well still sanding. I will add pics till i'm done sanding.
18. Nice bass. I really like Nirvana black.
19.
Yep. It's still used now. Listen to some of the guitar solos on some of the more extremely technical prog-metal albums. They have parts that if you see the guitarists live, they literally can't play that fast. It works even better with digital audio because with timestretch effects you can speed up the rhythm without affecting pitch. I also used the tape trick a few times on my porta 488, but it didn't always work depending on the instrument.
I would be interested in some examples of this in the tech metal genre. Can you think of any obvious examples?
20. I voted always on ten but i could do with a volume boost for some bits where the guitar overpowers the bass i am either going to get Volume pedal, boost pedal or start setting my bass vol at 2/3rd. The latter is the cheapest but might be a bit tricky to adjust mid song.
21. I always find myself coming back to look at this bass I really love it.
22. Welcome Septicrat. What kind of bass do you have? Do you play in a band?
