MY fortress has one double jazz pickup in the bridge position and has a preamp for each coil so you have a 2 band eq for each. Some might think that's overkill but it is so useful you can get a huge range of sounds from it. I plan on getting a bass with the same thing in the neck pick up so that would be 4 eq stacks but i think it would be the most flexible bass.
When it came to replacing my beloved '87 Wariwck Streamer with something better Robbie @ RIM Custom Basses made a beast that completely exceeded all my expectations and at a fraction of the cost of any high-end Warwick let alone their custom shop models. My big hint for any five string players, which most seem too scared to take up, is to go for a 36" scale. The difference is incredible. Huge, HUGE tone! Alex
I like the idea of the extended range but not sure if it would add too much tension to the strings. My tone requires me to bounce the strings off the frets and the extra tension may make this more difficult
Just in case it's thought I only create 4 string F & MM types - here's an example of the last 6 string I built about 18 months ago - I reckon it was No. 11 in a series with this body shape - 1 was a 4 string, 1 5 string and 1 fretless 6 - mostly with walnut bodies and a variety of hardware finishes and electronics This particular guy requested active EMGs without active circuitry but the control layout lends itself to an upgrade to two band actives by completing the 'diamond' shape of the pots - and if he does decide that in the future he'll be as happy as a man with four knobs.
My friend Dan ordered the 6 string fretless I can confirm it is an amazing bass. -
Yeah i am prepared to pay whatever it costs as i see this as being my ideal bass. Basically i want a custom bass made to my specifications but taking ideas from my fortress which im so fond of. I didnt think of Status i may have a look later.

Ok as a gift to myself for finishing my MA i have decided i want a new bass. I have some ideas but i thought id see what everyone thought. I recently bought a Warwick fortress and it is as close to perfect for me as any bass has come but id like to change a few things about. I would like to keep the same basic body dimensions as i love the way the bass balances but im not that keen on the body shape. I dont hate it by any means but i think it could look nicer. I want to keep the all wenge neck as i love it. I would also like to keep the same dimensions as i love the neck. I want to keep the maple body but i dont no if it needs to be flame maple is there much difference between flame and plain maple tone wise? I would like a nice fancy top like spalted maple but i want a see through black finish. How do you think it would look? Has anyone seen this done before pics would be great. i love the pickup on the fortress its two jazz pickups together each with their own 2 band eq so i want to keep that but i would like to have the same in the neck position as well as the bridghe for total flexability. That would mean 4 preamjps tho i think Could be overkill. I am thinking about going ACG but before i decide i thought i would see what other suggestions i would get. I thought about going CS Warwick but i just added it up and the retail is around £3500 which seems alot. Opinions? I have attached a pics of my fortress for those who have never seen one.

My band are headlining the Manchester academy stage 3 on Tuesday night as part of the deal with the promoter we have agreed to get at least 50 people here. I fear we may be coming up a bit short so if anyone is free in Manchester on Tuesday night and wants to come to a gig then please pop along. This is a big gig for us and need basschat help. Even if people cant stay to the end but are willing to come and say they are here to see us. I think Josh is coming along so also possibility for a mini bass bash Mods i know this is in the wrong forum but as its short notice and we need to try and get people to come i put it here as more people will see it. If you need to move it then go for it. Thanks.

Personally i would go unibass>exciter>punch factory>tuner. I would put the unibass first for the best tracking and put the tuner at the end so you can mute the whole signal. There is no real set rule though the best way is to try them out every way and see which way suits you best.

On the Alembic forum a lot of people rate Glokenklang i would love to try that stuff out. It looks immense.

Could you not have a power input for the preamp like Alembics do then you wouldnt need to worry about battery's?

Thats pretty much the perfect bass right there. Although personally i prefer black hardware. U must be getting pretty excited about the Sadowsky now.
