For some reason I have a real hankering for a P-Nut artist series 5 at the moment. I don't know P-nut from a Walnut but I love the look of the bass!
You guys have provided me with some good laughs the last 2 days...and this line is great! He plays for the band 311, which is especially popular in the Western US. I agree, his signature model looks fantastic...just wait until you hear it! Its one of my absolute favorite configurations.

Yes, most of the text above is from the write up we did. It makes sense without getting to technical, but if there is something else you'd like to know I would be happy to elaborate! If there are any specific technical questions you'd like answered I can ask Jonas Hellborg directly. I didn't play a role in the development, but have an in-depth knowledge of the amps themselves. Some of these points can get very technical, and I wanted to present information that can be easily understood. Just let me know, and I will gladly get any specifics you'd like.
WOW! When was this made? I thought Devin had a Peavey endorsement? has he moved?
I don't really know any details of his deals (I know he plays lots of brands for different styles of music)...except this from twitter: hey dev! What's goin' on with the PXD? Peavey's been mum and I can't find anyone who actually sells this thing! #icanhazguitar @dvntownsend No idea... my relationship with them has been odd. I'm pretty sure they think I'm an asshole. I thought it was out... :/ I did see that this recent pic was taken for the new album artwork: -
is there a reason you guys went with Class A topology? it's rather old, and crossover distortion is pretty much a non-issue with modern AB designs. Class A also burns twice the energy that it puts out to the speaker, even when idle. there's comments on the Youtube demos and Warwick forums that they are really quiet. what are the speakers in these? the BC-40's driver is rated at 89 dB SPL in its manual, which is pretty low. Andy Irvine and the reviewer in Leakim's link both had the amps past half way up.
Class-A amplifiers are typically more linear and, as such, less complex than other amplifier classes. The amplifying element is biased so the device is always conducting to some extent. This means the amplifier is always on, avoiding the problem of crossover distortion associated with class-AB and -B designs. Distortion occurs when an amplifier works beyond its range, when the power supply cannot supply the power any more to take the amp higher. A common method to control distortion in amps is to use a limiter, a device that stops the signal going beyond a specific level. Audio limiters work by setting a threshold signal level where the circuit kicks in and keeps signal levels within the capabilities of the power supply. This method is not very precise and often causes audible effects such as pumping and thumps. Warwick designed a circuit that instead reads the distortion level in the power amp and starts limiting as soon as the amp shows even miniscule amounts of distortion. This means our amps always stay within 0.3% distortion (THD) when most amps are rated at between 5-10% distortion (that means that to get your 20 Watt out of a 20 Watt amp you will get it audibly distorted and if you want a clean signal the power will be a lot less). As a result of the extensive effort put into the circuit design and layout, the amps are very quiet in terms of hiss/hum. The speakers and cabinets are specially designed by Celestion and Jonas Hellborg to be responsive and musical, full frequency with lots of headroom, and without added noise. The BC combo amps were designed for a few target audiences: A beginners first amp, an experienced players "home" amp, a backstage practice amp, as a tool for teachers wanting 2 inputs as well as an aux in, and a small space rehearsal amp. Thanks for your question!

The new line of BC combos has, indeed, had a total makeover. Extensive R&D was done in a joint effort between Celestion and Jonas Hellborg, and utilizes many features of the high-end Hellborg Amp line in its design. Its a very well thought-out design with special attention given to circuit and component layout, which results in a very musical sound with low noise and no hiss/hum. With its symmetrical circuit layout - meant to reduce resistance, create as low impedance as possible, and provide proper grounding, it creates less thermal noise and needs less filtering of high frequency feedback - which equals a more responsive and musical sounding amp. The box/cabinet size is matched to its specific driver, and great consideration was given to every detail - including box/cab material and covering material. They really sound incredible!

Glad to hear you got it worked out. Please let me know if you have any other questions, or need clarification. Enjoy your Hellborg preamp! -
Can we be sure of that? After all, the user Warwick_Official lists his location as California. In which case you would have to pay about 25% on top of the original price in order to pay for import charges and VAT.
Although I'm based in the Northern California Bay Area, the bass will be shipped from Germany. I'm a member of the newly formed social media team, and cover the main English language forums in an effort to avoid language/translation barriers that may have occurred in the past. Shipping will be paid by Warwick, duties/taxes to be covered by the buyer, if applicable. Thanks!

Does anyone know how basses are sold each year ?
Warwick_Official replied to far0n's topic in General Discussion
Warwick Germany is currently producing about 50 instruments a week, or approximately +/- 2500 per year, which also includes the Framus line of custom guitars. -
BTW has anyone who has entered checked that the prize is available to us here in the UK? IMO also since competitions on the internet are visible to everyone with a connection they should not be geographically limited unless the page with the competition on it is geographically limited so that only people in the appropriate country can view it in the first place. There is nothing more frustrating to go through the process of filling in an on-line entry form only to find that the competition isn't open to people outside of the US (for instance).
There are no geographic limitations for this giveaway. Warwick will pay the shipping anywhere in the world...however, the winner is responsible for any local duties.

I'd like to offer an apology to the admins and mods...I just thought it was something cool, and in retrospect should have cleared it with them first. I meant no disrespect, and hope I haven't tarnished the reputation (I think) I'm building here. It won't be repeated again...and hope this post is seen as genuine as I mean it. Thanks guys...
When I think of 60's/70's thick bluesy tone and short scale, I instantly think Gibson myself, as they were around on a lot of stuff from that era with a nice solid thud of a sound like you get from EB0's etc...
Agreed. I got a chance to play the new Framus Vintage 5/150 Star Bass at Namm this year. It has all the vibe and tone of the classics... 30" scale length, 20 frets. Check it out! Thanks for your welcome and comments, TheGreek! 26 fret necks aren't for everyone, but its a good option for those who utilize them and the tone they provide. Some players don't realize it, but there is a tonal shift when going between 21, 22, 24, and 26 fret basses...its not just extra notes! Finding an instrument that makes you comfortable, and lets you speak the way you want to express yourself is the most important thing, IMO. I'm open to all inquiries...customer service included! Feel free to email, pm or post here any time. The Warwick Forum is also a great group, and not as specialized as one would think. All are welcome there, warwick owners or not...as you probably already know! Thanks again! -
Mart: The Rockbass line is fitted with the same pickups and hardware as the German basses, the preamp is a different version. Many of these changes were implemented to assure greater consistency, as well as to offer great quality - even in a budget instrument. Quality control is closely monitored, to prevent any issues of the past arising in the future. Thanks!

I will give you some details as comprehensive as possible, and you can decide on impartiality! The current Rockbass line has seen quite a few upgrades. They are made from the finest tonewoods (alder is standard), with 2 piece bodies, and available in a natural satin or black high polish finish. Bolt-on Maple neck with Ekanga veneers, and Rosewood fingerboard. The short scale is 30 3/4" and the medium scale is 32". They feature the Just-a-Nut III, and the exact same 2-piece 3D bridges, security strap locks, machine heads, and pickups that are used on the high-end German built models. They are available with either the Active MEC J/J pickups and Active 2 way electronics, or the Passive MEC J/J pickups and Passive electronics. They are offered in right-handed models, and left-hand models at no extra charge. In my opinion they are a great value for a high quality bass. I played both the short and medium scale versions at NAMM this year, and thought their tone and playability were unmatched. They are now being produced under strict supervision at the factory in China, and quality control is a priority. I hope this helps...best of luck!
