I use a Yamaha BBT-210S cab with my Ashdown Superfly. This cab is 4 ohms and is rated at 250watts RMS. Although it's only a 2x10 cab, it's front ported and has a good low end. I was using it last night at a rehearsal with my rock covers band and it has no problem cutting through the noise fron 2 guitarists a drummer and vocalist. If you can find one for sale separately, I'd recommend it. Sorry, but I've no experience of the BBT 500 amp - by the way, this amp and the BBT cabs have now been discontinued by Yamaha.
Thanks for the input mate. I'm not sure if the chap selling will split the yamaha combo 1x10 & 2x10 ext cab as I think he wants to get shot of them as a package. I can try the yamaha BBT set up & then the Asdown ABM (through his ashdown 4x10) & try & see if there's much between them.. I'm just not sure about a digital amp.. Thanks again, Anth.
PM Geejay - he has (or had) a BBT 500H.
Aye, I will do, cheers mate
Your drummer must be a special one and very different to mine... ABM would appear to be the pick of the bunch. Will you get a chance to try playing the Ashdown through the Yamaha 2x10 as (if it sounds good to you) it would appear to be a good compromise for portability and gigability. Willl
Hi Will, The drummer is special cos its me! I am new to playing bass & play drums in my band. www.gasolineallstars.com I will have the chance to play it through the guys 4x10 ashdown. I don't think he will split the yamaha combo with the yamaha 2x10 cab (I think the yamaha 2x10 matches the 500 1x10 combo) for output ect, I think the 2x10 cab is only 2 OHMS so I'm not sure if it would be ok with the ashdowm ABM 325 Head. I'm hoping that someone on here has had a yamaha BBT500 & can give me some advice on them. Cheers, Anth.
As what? Can they get jobs? ABM btw.
Drummers are not as daft as they look! That’s not possible is it? Cheers for the advice.. On the Amp.
The ABM will only be knocking out about 200w into an 8 ohm load (ie one cab) so you'd be ok using it. I've no experience of the Yamaha, but at that price the ABM is still looking good to me. If you look for matching cabs second hand you might just shoehorn a pair of 2x10s in secondhand (if you get lucky).
Cheers Musky, I have until the weekend to decide so hopefully there will be a few more replies. I do think the ABM as everyone is seeming to go for that but that was before I mentioned the Yamaha. Cheers Mate
Why don't you get the 210, then save the extra money. If you really feel like doing some heavy gigging you may need a 115 or another 210, but these will be easier to carry round then one big 410 cabinet (employ the drummer).
Aye, Thats a great idea BUT! The guy selling the Ashdown is also selling a yamaha BBT 500 with matching 2x10 cab http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product.asp?id=4191 As I said earlier, I am not a whizz on the bass & have no idea about amp/head/combo to go for. I was 100% gonna go for the ashdown ABM but the yamaha combo has started my brain rattling !
Might as well go for an Ashdown cab to match it . Whats your budget for the cab ? £150 will get you a MAG210 http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~A...0-T~ID~2053.asp £270 will get you an ABM210 http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~A...act~ID~2047.asp I make no apologies for my blatant bias to Ashdown
I was hoping to spend no more than £300 for cabs & was thinking about getting two 2x10's.. The ashdown cab at £150 has only 200 watts so would that be ok with a head that was 325 watts or would I be better going with the cab that does 300 watts? I don't really understand ohms & output ect.. I just want a head & two 2x10's that sound good but lound enough if I ever get round to playing a gig with it. I don't really want to have to carry a 4x10 around.. CHEERS!

Cheers to everyone who has replied, I think the Ashdown ABM is the one to go for according to most of you. Now all I have to is decide on a cab...??? 2 x 10's is what I'm after so any cab info would be mint! Thanks very much.

Anybody got any advice or input on bass heads. I have around £200 to spend on a head & I am still a novice player. I bought a heavy combo which is now sold so I'm after a Head & speakers. I have the chance of a second hand ashdown ABM 300 EVO II for £180. A new MAG 300 for £191 from soundslive, Or a Gallien Krueger backline for £200. Any advice on heads & cabs would be great. Thanks.
Light weight means digital amp and neo speakers and I cant see you getting that for £500. Other than that look at the usual suspects in this price range, Ashdown, Trace, Peavey etc.
Cheers mate. I'll have a look about. I could pick up a bargain on here if I'm lucky!
I had a Trace 122H SMX. Could be a pain to carry/ fit in small car boots (Stand up FIAT Punto) I... err... Cut mine in half with a jigsaw to make a (downsized) 2103H (2x10) and (wider than usual) AH300 SMX. Cost me about £25 in MDF, feet and handles to make a new sleeve for the "head" I also have a 1153 (1x15) with good (large diameter / lockable) Castors. I stack it all on the 1x15 and strap it together with a ratchet strap. Bag on shoulder, bass in one hand, pull stack with the other! In the main, the gear I've heard recently that's impressed me most has probably been Markbass. Castors really are the way to go. They've saved my back a lot of grief! Stick them on your 1x15 and pile it all on that. Go careful, though, the whole lot can have a high centre of gravity. Downside? Some people think you lose some bottom end from not having the cab directly on the floor. And Castors won't save you from stairs!!
Cheers for the info, I did think about cutting it down but I'm not great at DIY so I thought selling it & getting smaller things would be a better bet. I have now sold the amp so I'm on the look out.. I do know someone selling a warwick sweet 15 combo for £150 but then it get back to having 3 small things to carry, rather that bust my back up & downstairs.. I'm sure something will come up.. Thanks Again. I'm missing my Trace Elliot already & its only been gone a few hours!

It looks like my trace elliot 122H 300 watt combo is sold pending collection & payment so I’m after a new set up that is going to be lighter to carry than a heavy combo. I’m after some advice so here’s what I’m thinking about: A 300 watt head 2 cabinets consisting of one 2x10 & one 1x15. Not sure of what make to go for on head or cabinets. 3 Items to carry have to be better for your back in the long run & I ain’t no spring chicken any more If you guys & girls can point me in the right direction it will be much appreciated. The budget is £500 for the lot but if I can get sorted for less it would be mint.
