Smooth Hound Innovations Digital Wireless Guitar System
sbrag replied to Dood's topic in Accessories and Misc
Just ordered mine. Looking forward to getting it. -
Thanks chris. The battery life and the glowing sharks head swung it for me. Looking forward to getting it.

I'm about to pull the plug but can't choose between the Smoothound and Sony. There doesn't seemove much to choose between them. I'm probably erring towards the Smoothhound due to battery life and i like the design but there isnt much to choose. Any final suggestions before I buy i mostly will be doing pub/club and the occasional function gig.

I was really impressed with Rhiannon Gidding as I wasn't aware of her before and think Tom Jones blues stuff was good too. I thought it was one of the better shows especially as I thought the last series was quite weak. As for Dave's bass I always like it when pro players use something a bit more unusual and interesting. I get bored of seeing everyone using Fenders and boutique Super Jazz's on TV. Those old Ibanez Musicians are quality basses.

Really sad news but amazing he made it to 70. Big regret I never got to see Motorhead live for one reason or another but I did get to meet him in the early 90s. The man has left a massive legacy. I love this clip: https://youtu.be/91QIMu9CVrI

I don't know if this is old hat on here but I've found this site a really useful resource for a lot of the players and songs being talked about here: http://freebasspart.pv24.pagesperso-orange.fr/my_favorite_bass_lines.htm

I've got a lot of love for Slade and Shakey and it never feels like christmas until I've heard Fairytale of New York but I'll put a vote in for Back Door Santa by Clarence Carter. https://youtu.be/s0NoalRsk5w For the worst, until this year I'd have said the Millennium Prayer by Cliff or Stay Another Day by East 17, but after hearing Sam Smith's nasal falsetto version of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas the other day that has now topped my list. Truly awful and I haven't got the taste of sick out of my mouth yet!

If you can find an old yamaha bb1100s you can't go wrong, I love mine. There's one on flea bay for 350 at the moment but you can get them for 250 if you are lucky. Active and passive, great electrics and a neck somewhere between a p and a j.

I think he's a great player and nice to hear he's a nice guy too. I do think he needs a bigger pedal board though!

I think the 4 tops win the suits and the bloke with top hat wins the dance contest.

All of these this vs that topics reminded me of this video. It's one of my favourites if only for the suits: https://youtu.be/NF_qMvysgsY

As others have said I love the rawness of Stax pver motown and I can listen to Duck Dunn'so playin all day. Also Stax of the Funk Vols 1 and 2 are my favourite compilation albums. Also Motown didn't have Sam and Dave and Rufus Thomas.

Scott Devine has some really good advice regarding GAS
My theory on GAS and hopefully I'll be more succinct than Scotty D... My handwriting is ok. It's legible and some people think it's pretty i.e. I get asked to write stuff when I'm in groups at work, on the white board, on big sheets of paper. Gimme a bic pen and my writing can be understood but given the choice I'd buy myself some Papermate 'Atlantis' pens as they're a bit more expensive but still very affordable, they feel good to me (and I can easily identify one if my colleagues nick it). If I'm feeling flush I might buy a Lamy pen, their Scribble and Dialog are personal favourites, as I quite like their style and design. My point.... I've played Squires, Epiphones, USA Fenders, Musician basses etc and I'm fortunate to own a really nice bass at the minute. Do I sound any better or worse on those different basses? Perhaps? Yeah some feel better, are better made and will inherently be 'better'..... but I still sound like me on them. In the same way a pen might have a moderate influence on my hand writing it's always gonna be my handwriting, the same way a bass will dictate some small changes to how I play/sound. Gimme a crayon and my writing will look clumsy for sure but once we hit a certain standard its calligraphy lessons that will make the difference not a quill and pot of ink or a Mont Blanc. Same with bass, concentrate on what you play and becoming a better player and the other stuff will come. Disagree if you like but those are some fine pens
Is your name really Pauline? https://youtu.be/aus3szpa8nU -

What he didn't say though, was which one his basses was best for playing metal! -
Also my yamaha bb1100s has nice slim neck too. Perhaps not as slim as a jazz but definitely slimmer than most precisions.
-
I thought about entwistle pickups but it looks like they only do 4 strings.
-
Thanks for the tip off.
-
Weak how? Do the break easily or just not stay in tune? I've not had much trouble with the latter yet?
-
MTD CRB is a quality P bass with a very slim neck.
-
Not Quite a new bass day as I picked this up last week. Bit of a bargain on flea bay so I bought it on a whim to give 5 strings another go. It needed a good clean new strings and set up and while I'm still not sure 5 strings are for me, it is a cracking bass for the money. B string is really clear, good tone and really easy to play. If I keep it it may get a bit of modding, possibly a Kiogon loom or a preamp and new pickups, any recommendations gratefully recieved but nothing too pricey please. Crap photo attached.
Just use 2 Hiwatts flat out through 4 off 4 x 12s with old Fane 50w speakers. There's the sound, no mystery. It'll be bloody loud though.
Is that one of those lightweight modular rigs? Doesn't it also help to hit the stings really hard almost above the neck?

My 9 year old daughter said at dinner the other day "I don't like Justin bieber", "that's cos he's a bell end" was my reflex response. My wife didn't seem to think that was the best thing to say but I stand by my comments and glad my daughter has taste!
