1. lol ....I know..the cheek of some people
2. Went with the Fishman Plat Pro in the end....thanks TPJ Its a great bit of kit, and has improved the sound hugely. Not only does it sound better, but its much, much louder....infact our guitarist had to tell me "to turn it down !!!" ...which is a first and at one point the crockery in his kitchen were rattling lol.
3. Likewise.. I have a £400 Thomann ( which after new strings and a setup by a luthier is more than adequate for my use...IE rockabilly-ish music ) which you are more than welcome to come and try......if button moon is anywhere near Bedfordshire.
4. Think I'd like to give these a go too Daf ....cheers........
5.
Hi Chris, I have a used one that I'll sell. I never got on with it on DB. Like all things DB, my bass sounds better with the Full Circle and an MXR80 of all things I bought it used and the XLR jack is a little loose but works fine. The rest of the unit works fine too. If you pm me your address, I'll send it to you to try. If it works for you we can work out a good price.
nice one...I will pm my address tomorrow when Im a bit more sober...had too many beers...cheers
6. As it says.....Im after a preamp for my upright bass ....cheers.
7. now he tells me ....
8. hmmmm ....I was gonna buy one new, but your idea sounds better...especially to my missus lol
9. nice one clarky ..... Im off to buy a preamp
10.
You could buy a Boss GEB-7 graphic equaliser which is much cheaper than most pre-amps but does the business. I have one and it allows me to tweak my sound exactly how I like it. They cost £80 new and £40 secondhand.
Youve got one of those on an upright bass ????
11. Hi all, My (cheaper end of the market) bass sounds ok acoustically, but when I plug in to my amp it sounds terrible. The amp is a very nice Peavey (my mates).... so Im thinking that it must be the pickup, which was about £20 quid on ebay.....and the fact that I dont have a pre-amp. Am I on the right track?? And which pickup and pre-amp would you guys recommend ?? I play rockabilly/punkabilly with some very loud guitarists ( how do you get a guitarist to turn it down??? ) and a drummer who would give Animal a run for his money cheers....Chris
12. What do you think about the tension on them Adam ?? Ive currently got Psycho-slaps on mine...the A and D are ok, but I find the E string way too loose and floppy, and the G string is a bit on the tight side for my liking.
13. oops...its a cd not a dvd, but still a very good book
14. Yay...book came this morning. Only had a 10 minute look at it, but it seems to be exactly what I want. Comes with a dvd too
15. Cheers for the reply Andy. Your offer of a lend of your dvd is very kind of you. According to Amazon, the Didi Beck book is supposed to turn up next Thursday, so I will see how I get on with that. I think that I really need to speak to someone who plays and say... "this is how I play with my right hand..is it ok?" and " this is how I play with my left hand is that ok?" ....Im playing the thing..I just dont know if Im doing it right. If money allows, when my hip has recovered sufficiently from the op, I will definately try to get a lesson or two from Daf Lewis..as he is only up the road from me. I managed to get very close to the stage a few weeks back and watched the bass player very closely. He seemed to be up and down the fingerboard like a madman...... dont get me wrong...it sounded ok, but he did seem to make it harder for himself.
16. An update for those who care So...Ive finally ordered The Didi Beck book. Ive also put my name on the Innovation Rockabilly string list. The band has changed personnel a bit over the last few months...and now has a name.... "King Daddy and the Blackrats" and a facebook and myspace page. We have been getting together whenever we can...and have even recorded a couple of songs thanks to my sons university course. He needed to record a band as they would have been recorded in the era of the music that they play...so we got recorded as a 50s band would have been..or as close as possible. Although on hearing it we are more rock than rockabilly at the moment, but we are working on it and have made some good progress towards the sound that we want. The mix of punk, rock and rockabilly seems to be leaning far too heavily towards punk at the moment. My bass is now living in my bedroom.....so in my best carry-on voice I can now say "Im just off upstairs to give Holly a slap" I will be having my 2 year old hip removed in Feb, and another new one put in as my body is rejecting the material that this one is made of..basically lots of pain and very little movement .... So I will be having 6 or 8 months off work with nowt to do except play my bass...so not all bad then ...so hopefully this time next year I will be fit n healthy ..and a much, much better bass player. Chris

21. Might I suggest shortening her chain....so that she can only reach the cooker, fridge, sink and ironing board
