1. Welcome
2. And here is the welcome from South Wales
3. Welcome
4. Welcome to the forum Hope you find a band soon.
5. I'm not frustrated as I appreciate that my journey as a bassist is one of small improvements, when I can see these improvements, I smile. I think to be frustrated you must worry that your learning and growth has stopped. Me, I know no matter how much I develop I will always have something to learn, and will always be able to grow. So I will keep playing with a big grin on my face!
6. So pleased for you
7. In my bass lessons I use double tapping, classical bass and slapping. This is developing me holistically as a bassist. However, for both my rock bands, what I need is to honour the song and fit with the musicians I play with..... Sometimes this is with exciting basslines, sometimes it's a good use of root notes. As discreet says the bass is not a solo in the main, so we have to honour the music, however that will be best.
8. Have fun
9.
...Wait, does that post make me a frustrated comedian..? Worried, now.
Without question
10.
Could you not persuade the chickens to clean up their own hutch - bone idle feathery bastards - maybe taunt them with pictures of Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall holding a bunch of sage until they start pushing the hoover about.
I usually get child labour in to do it! But my friend has the cheek to take her 14 year old daughter on holiday.... Not on I tells ya! As it goes, I've run through my set the best I've ever done it this morning, I may permanently break it... Or maybe even chop it off
11. I've only gone and damaged my little finger again! It's an old injury and occasionally I do something stupid and it flares up again! This time it was twisting it back whilst cleaning out the chickens. It's swollen and bruised today, but thankfully on the bass playing spectrum it is surplus to requiremennts! So good dose of pain killers and I'm practicing. I'm soooooo glad it wasn't any other finger or I'd be screwed with me learning and rehearsing my new set list for my new band!
12. It's all about building strength and flexibility. No easy answer other than practice, you are right it is a rite of passage!
13.
This is a great forum, love it. A lot of the 'high numbers' posters seem to fall into one of two categories. 1. Middle-aged men who take themselves very seriously. 2. Middle-aged men who think they are comedians. For me, the most entertaining part of Basschat is the interactions between these two tribes.
And I LOVE this place as I am a strange breed of poster..... An approaching middle aged (39, I'm not there yet am I? ) woman who takes myself very seriously AND thinks I am a comedian! You should see me argue with myself This is a fab place to be though..... Through this forum I have made some great real life friends, nestled under the wing of an awesome teacher, been able to feed my GAS addiction, joined a kick arse band and had some great times! There have been tears at some threads in Off Topic where members have had a hard time, there have been laughs when something funny has happened that someone needs to share, and my joke telling has nose dived since finding Bad Jokes! This place rocks!
14.
But seriously, have a look at this band's website ....... may give you some ideas http://www.jukeboxfunctionband.com/
Great website, but no mention of prices.... Bet they cost an arm and a leg!
15.
I'm not sure it is a triplet Deb. in the rock books I'm using the gallop is an eighth note followed by 2 sixteenths...try that with two fingers :-)
The iron maiden track is triplets Paul. The eighths followed by 2 sixteenth is a different type of gallop!
16. It's interesting Don't like the pick ups one bit, but love the design look of the body.
17. Iron Maiden "Ides of March" has a great galloping bassline.... I'm learning it at the moment for my new band.... I played with trying a 3 finger approach, but find my triplet accuracy is better with 2, so I'm sticking with 2. Great track to try 3 finger playing if that's what you want though. I've just had my bass partner in crime up for lunch today (just so happened we'd both had the day off work) and I played it for her and we were discussing the triplet accuracy.... It's a challenge to play but I'm getting there.... In fact Deb has told me to ditch the 10% slower version I did on Audacity as I am handling it at full speed Have fun!
18. This has sent me down memory lane Orchestra pit aged 14 and 15, joint youngest in the orchestra (with a trumpeter that plays professionally now). Even though I was underage had some rather heavy nights out after shows with the orchestra and cast..... Was when I found Jack Daniels Good times
19. Been 23 years since I last did a musical..... Fiddler on the roof, when I was an oboeist..... And I agree, the biggest issue is when things on stage do not go as planned.... Rely completely on your conductor. When I did musicals it was incredible fun but very hard work! Enjoy it
20. We were only talking about him at the Cardiff bass bash yesterday. Good on him for going out with a bang though. Hope he's coping with his illness.
21. DoH! Only just saw this! When's your next one Chay?
22. Welcome back to the promised land of bass playing
23.
Debs, I promise we will catch up soon, maybe a cuppa over Easter?
Sounds good
24.
wwas a good afternoon! great to meet you all! can anyone tell me what John's last name is though?? Pete
he's Jon Caulfield
