Sorry you didn't make it Bass Lady Had a fab time Great to see old friends and meet new ones Thanks again Gelfin for sorting it! My highlights were thanks to Pete and his extensive kit.... Had my first go at a double bass (and played a G Major scale, not very rock and roll I know ), and my first go at a 6 string and have decided that my hands certainly aren't suited to one! And I completely fell in love with his 1980s hand made Ibanez.... It was swweeeeeeetttttt Mr Fretbuzz was snapping away, so photos to follow I'm sure Was great to meet young Jake too, and judging by his tapping away, it's hardly surprising he's a drummer Great afternoon, roll on the next bass bash -

It's today people I am only bringing one bass with me, and no amp.... Sorry chaps.... Couldn't fit more in the car with having been away last night! -
Dear Prudence is a fab bassline! It's probably the favourite on the set. Been listening to new band set in the car..... Going to be a few challenges in there, particularly Wrathchild and NIB!!! I'm up for the challenge though

Hello Have you looked in the tutors section, there are a few pages of teachers there.....
Basschat is like duck tape... it has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the universe together.* *may have previously been a star wars joke about the force.
But the force is strong with me I think having been classically trained in my youth has helped me as an adult joining the wonderful world of being a bassist? -
Me too. That and hanging out with the wrong sort of people.
I didn't hang out with the wrong sort of people until I joined Basschat -
I've suffered the odd left hand cramp too, mainly during that long repitetive fast guitar solo part in Dazed and Confused ! our drummer suggested having a packet of ready salted crisps, but that just made playing it virtually impossible, i dropped nearly all the crisps .
PMSL!!! You've just made me choke on my glass of wine

Paul, Can't wait to catch up on Saturday Reading your post made me smile in a "this sounds familiar" kind of way...... As you know I've been in band 1 for 8 months..,, I have just joined band 2! If you like blues rock and roll, my old band will need a new bassist soon.......! I'm going to stay for the charity gigs, but I'm leaving! However, bloody typical as my leaving threats have made them get their arses into gear!! Mr Ace.... Is well.... Ace, he helped me with my audition prep and said "You'd better check if they do play those numbers in A flat, most guitarists prefer A" I text, and it was indeed A.... Cue transposing up a semi tone and getting audacity to do its business on amending the recorded track for me to play along to. I love Mr Ace I do, he's my hero Jon - if you read this, know that YOU ROCK! and your students think you are the best!! Try not to blush, will spoil your mean and moody look for your promo photos -
He did write some kick arse basslines. RIP but know your legacy lives on (badly) in my playing

I'm moulding my nephew as a drummer already We were playing doing different tapping and marching beats earlier.... He was picking them up really quickly and copying me! My sister was amazed..... But equally not happy at my suggestion of a drumkit.... Unless it stays at Auntie Debs house -
Weird, it's back..I had a cartoon mouse earlier :-D
Step away from the weird powders my dear friend Are you bringing you iPhone to amp join up thingy on Sat? -
That was brill, Debs! Congrats! One thing I don't understand, however, is why you feel the need to lie. I mean: no chance in Hull that any band can play or rehearse that set with only two guitar players instead of three. Something does not add up, girl. Best of luck! bert
Damn you've caught me out Honestly though after he went home with his tail between his legs, we played the set, it was tighter than it had been in ages and we honestly didn't miss him AT ALL! Been talking about it all with OH tonight, he's of a mind that I should do the charity gigs then bow out before they start working on the second set, but help them recruit a new bassist. I am definitely more excited about my new band and the challenge musically for me. Although OH did have a strop with me when I said the new basslines are more challenging and he said "You are trying to tell me that Phil Lynnott is better than Jack Bruce or Paul McCartney".... I told him that they were all great bassists, but I was enjoying the challenge that the new Thin Lizzy tracks were giving me! He did have to chose the bassists from my old bands set that I do enjoy playing though, I love playing Badge and Dear Prudence!

I have La Bella flats on my fretless and 5 string and they do give a lovely warm tone, but sometimes for rock you need the extra brashness of tone that round wounds give, so I keep them on my 4 string. I agree that you get less sore fingers with flats!
Balancing a set list? Hmmmm. I tend to sticky tape mine to my amp or the floor, not chance of it falling off or flying away, belt and braces
LOL! Im also getting faster at this transposing by ear, only took me about 5 mins to get the structure of a Judas Priest song down..... Good job really, I have another 9 to do and learn before bank holiday Monday..... If I go quiet you know why
Looking atyour posts it seems the new band's set is quite different to the old ones. This can be good for developing different aspects of playing. I've really only been in 2 bands simultaneously on one occasion but it can be fun if they are different enough. What sort of stuff are you doing with the new lot?
Old lot - stuff like Sweet Home Chicago (and some other 12 bar blues), Dear Prudence, Knocking on Heavens door, another brick in the wall. New lot - Thin Lizzy stuff (Rosalie, don't believe a word), judas priest, iron maiden, zz top.... Harder rock than I'd normally listen to but it is sooooo much fun to play!! Thanks for all the congratulations! I am still chuffed to bits today! God I live being a bassist!!
