Good luck with the new project. You have definitely done the right thing. -
I've got a "Keep Calm and Play Bass" t shirt, but I do like that Tesco value one

Gary, you can have the contents of my allotment, thats several cabbages, some sprouts, courgettes, runner beans, peppers, tomatoes etc etc... generous offer or what! In all seriousness, this looks like a fabulous bargain for someone, sadly I don't have enough cash so that someone won't be me Although I can vouch for your instrument care, as I am loving your old fretless -
If he does, I know a few JD fans not too far away
-
Neath Music also do PA hire, not far from Swansea.
However on your right hand you're only playing with one finger, really need to get them walking! Maybe practice some scales using strict alternate fingers, that'll also help with muting as you can bring your right hand into play as well as your fretting hand. Good luck! You're making really good progress.
Yep, I was waiting to be pulled up on that I do struggle with alternate finger walking.... I have been working on it with some 12 bar blues.... But I still have a long way to go.... I naturally use one finger and it's proving a hard habit to break.... But I know if I ever want to be a good bassist I have to nail that puppy!! Thanks for all you kind comment guys. I watch some videos on here and I get blown away with the talent some of you guys have! I think it's good to record my progress (you should see the first video I did, it's totally embarrassing now!), this is the first time I've felt confident enough to post a video without thinking I would be making a complete tit out of myself! -
Marvellous Hope you don't give him lessons too often though or you'll be permanently bladdered

Thanks, yep, I'm aware of the string noise.... Can usually control it on slower songs, but faster more complex ones always get me! My teacher has told me not to worry too much about it, as it will come with time and experience. -
OK guys, I've only been a bassist for just over 4 months! I know my timings go off in places. I look like crap and fat as am in casual clothes and no make up. But if you can endure 3 and a half minutes of torture.... Here's Love Cats by the Cure. It was my homework piece from Mr Ace my fab teacher, I thought it was beyond my skills, but I'm getting there I reckon. So, be brutal! Well done Keep enjoying it!

It is the ring finger, I do use my little finger a lot as I haven't got the biggest hands. Howev, when slides are required I find that it's only my second and ring finger that have the strength to do the slides. Shall try a combined approach of plaster and other finger use I think.
-
Yesterday, I was playing for about 5 hours, and was doing lots of songs that needed slides (I was playing my fretted not my fretless) I stopped playing and saw I had a blister on my third finger. This morning it has burst and broken off leaving a sore bit of finger. Well, I want to continue playing today and tomorrow, what can I do? Do I just cope with the pain? Shall I put a plaster on it? I've heard about a superglue coat, but I'm a clumsy sod and will probably end up in casualty having stuck all my fingers together. Tips appreciated!

Please make them ban Mustang Sally I think any covers band that does that should be taken into the street and shot
Sorry to hear that Debs. Someone has got in touch with me today from 'join my band' and he sounds like he has the right credentials so were gonna try him out week after next when our drummer gets back from his hols and he's had a look at the set. Fingers crossed! Good luck with your band too, never seems to be easy does it? LC
Hope it works out for you! We have our ad on join my band as we speak too!

We've had some bad luck in our band and now need a lead singer and rhythm guitar with backing vocals to join me on bass and our drummer and lead guitarist. We are a mixed bunch who are in it for the fun more than money. We play mostly 60s and 70s rock.... Stones, bad finger, the who, fleet wood mac. We practice every Tuesday in Swansea. If you don't have an ego, and just want to enjoy playing music, then give us a shout
-
Well in a shock development in my band, we have tonight found ourselves in the same situation!! Our lead singer has decided to go alone as a soloist as we'd needed to put gigging on hold due to our lead guitarist having cancer treatment. he's a nice guy, but he wants to be making money, the rest of the band are in it more for fun than for money.

Maybe a bit far, but I REALLY recommend the bridge toll to have lessons with Jon. He is amazing. I travel the same distance as you would need to (albeit from the other direction without the £6 toll) but I think its well worth it. My teacher charges £19 an hour... and I go fortnightly. I'd go every week if I could afford it. -

I have lessons with your quite awesome protégée Bilbo In fact I have been looking at an old bass of yours only today One with "hurdles" on it Interestingly, I have come home so happy from a lesson today that I have started my own thread -
I know exactly how you feel. I am just the same. Its bloody marvelous :-)
Ain't it just

My teacher is awesome and I always come away feeling challenged but confident and happy and excited about my practice and learning. Just wanted to sing it from the roof tops as I've just come home from another fab lesson. That is all

What a nightmare for you Gary, hope you get someone decent soon.
