1. I've only been playing just over a month and already have two basses and two amps! Although in my defence I bought a £105 bass/amp cheapy combo from eBay. Realised I LOVED playing, then bought a nice Peavy amp... And due to my ickle hands, I have today bought an Ibanez SR300 due to the narrow neck. I'm loving how it plays and how much more comfortable my hand is. Ok, I admit, being on here hasn't helped the cause But I now have exactly what I need to enable me to properly develop now
2. Have just come back from my first lesson with Jon and he is awesome.. He's just over 40 miles away from me, but well worth the travel. I am in awe of his skills, however, he really puts you at ease and encourages you. Made me feel really good about my playing. Can't wait for my next lesson now... Top Bloke
3. I am in awe of anyone who can sing at the same time as they play! When I'm playing around at home and have attempted to sing I always end up screwing over the basslines (plus I can't sing for toffee).
4.
And Tom1946 has a tasty one for sale right now........ http://basschat.co.uk/topic/178705-ibanez-sr300m-maple-board-new/
I noticed... I've PM'd him
5. That's brilliant, thanks Marvin
6. Im considering upgrading my current cheapy beginner bass. Being a girl with small hands, I have heard good stories about the Ibanez SR300 as it has a narrow neck. I can't afford to pay out vast sums for a new bass. Bearing in mind I'm a non gigging beginner, what are your views on this bass? Thanks in advance
7. I have a Peavy amp, they don't cost a fortune and you get a really good sound out of them. I'm a beginner to bass too and wish I'd done it years ago! Welcome
8. Welcome, and good luck with the dream bass
9. Hi Gwen, Welcome to the UK and Basschat
10.
What does your butler think?
Jeeves is very happy when he's handing me effects pedals on silver plates or velvet cushions
11. I'm not a real musician (one day maybe) but our living room now has 3 amps, a bass guitar, an electric guitar and the coffee table is FULL of music books. To me, it's looking great but visitors aren't so impressed and my cleaner (again proof I'm not a real musician ) is petrified of the kit
12.
Just do it. If you're capable of playing along with your OH then you're good enough to play along with others - and if you're not, the adrenaline and determination to succeed will kick in and you will very quickly be good enough (then be looking around for your next challenge).
maybe I should just take the plunge then In fairness, with OH I tend to start with root notes, then build a few arpeggios, maybe with a few passing notes to take me from one chord to another, but I'm certainly not quick, although I am good at keeping time with the basslines I do create. We had a fab playing session yesterday, where I did impress him with some of my bass embellishments. I just don't want to make a tit of myself by playing with more experienced players who think "well I don't want to play with her, she's crap!"
13. Didn't think about asking my local music shop! I'm nervous of join my band and gum tree, being a beginner and a girl
14. What's the best way? I jam with my OH (who plays guitar) but he won't play as much as I want to play
15. ..... I'm considering joining http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=GB&feature=player_embedded&v=0o2ufv_c0xI
16. Just wondering what other people practice routine is. I try and do an hour a day. 15 minutes is playing on my iPad fret finder game so I can get quicker at my fret board notes. Then a do 45 mins playing practice. I do my major and minor scales and pentatonic scales. Then I play some songs. My current favourites are teenage kicks, let it be, sunshine of your love and the main bit of Money. I am so very much a beginner but I absolutely love it
17. Thanks for this..... Love a bit of pink Floyd me In fact I have just been playing the bass to Money
18. I can't believe it's only 16%...... I played the guitar as a naive teenager.... But as a sensible grown up, the bass was the only logical choice
19. [sub]It was my local shop Deb, they were really helpful. I could have bought the amp for a tenner cheaper online, but it fairness I think its important to support your local businesses, and the fact that I could try it out first I thought was really handy [/sub] [sub]I'm working in Cardiff today, and one of the guitar shops have some Yamaha basses..... i am fighting with myself to not wander over! LOL![/sub]
20.
Hope you're enjoying yourself Space Chick, that's what it's all about
I am absolutely loving it and wishing I'd done it years ago! There's something quite primal about a good bassline! I had the music shop in stitches yesterday though, as they assumed I was buying the amp for someone else!! I suppose I don't look like a typical bass player!! (Well make your own minds up from my avatar! LOL!)
21.
As for the OP involve the other half. Mines a memeber here too Although she won't even attempt to learn but now she gets GAS too. She wants an Orange rig for the living room and the Black super P dingwall on the Bass Gallery site
He came home from work yesterday and said he was half expecting to see some Marshall stacks! LOL! He was very impressed with the amp though.... But this meant he hogged my bass for a bit (he's a normal guitarist), I told him My bass, My amp, Get ya mitts off! I think when the time comes to get a new bass he will be supportive, but in all honesty mine is fine whilst I'm still very much the beginner I am
22.
And - as a Tuscan saying goes - Death needs to find us alive
I love that
