Hi guys, So everytime I play with my band I tune down my bass(es) by half a tone across all strings. A jazz with flats but mainly a streamer $$ 5. My question does not regard playability, as my intonation and action remains fine when I have dropped the tuning, but rather on the health of the neck!! I do not adjust the rod for this even though as soon as I'm home I tend to retune back to standard straight away. So I ask the more experienced heads: am I doing the right thing? Or should I tweak I slightly each way every time I retune? I never thought of the tension change as much but recently saw a comment or two that made me think twice and naturally I want to keep my axes in good stead! Cheers for the help, Ash

Hiya guys, I'm finding using my fairly newly acquired BDDI pedal unit (which I bought for DI'ing in the studio) great for live and would recommend as a stomp box to dial in up to 6 tonal options to switch between when live. I'm running it as part of my pedal set up before my amp as well as PA as I prefer the sound of my amp with the BDDI essentially as a kind of warm-up pre. I should note that my streamer I use live has a 3 band pre itself so I have to be careful with settings for settings if you know what I mean or it could get messy. The question in this post is 'do you think this is a good way to work'? not looking for justification: it's working for me at the moment and will keep experimenting. Was just really wondering if people are using units like these a lot as part of the boards? I don't tend to see them used in that format all that much.

Agree about the playfulness being a good thing! It certainly ain't snooty lookin' I just appreciate manufacturers sticking their neck out a little with some bold designs. Yeah as bass players we tend to like a few set formats with regards to looks but I appreciate this as something very fresh. Plus I guess it's great for keeping up brand profile as it's got us all talking!

[/quote] Yeah that's the view I've started to take with regards to the sound of sets. How they feel of course is a lot less subjective and won't vary from bass to bass. Interesteing to hear of stickiness. Do you guys mean a feeling similar to the natural friction you get with flats? I tend t whack fast fret on my LaBellas if I need to play some quickish lines.

Done a trade-up with Marcus the other day, my jazz plus cash for his thumb. Plus buying a boss tu-3 from him. Top, honest bloke easy to communicate with and wouldn't hesitate to recommend any dealings with him based on my very positive experience with him!

This is quite simply one of my very favourite records. Ever. That man had a magic.

Bought a SR1000 fretless from David and he was great, Easy to communicate with, swift dispatch, extreme care taken in packing the bass up safely and was also helpful with an after sale query I had regarding the bass. Would not hesitate to recommend dealings with the gentleman.

I had Martin at the Gallery set my wick up pretty low: B > 2mm E 2mm G < 1.5mm Plays beautifully and does buzz when I choose to dig in but you know what?... Isn't that part of the instrument? to be used? I love digging into the G string to get a nice aggressive, poppy Staccato note. I should note that I'm by no means a 'thashy' player in which case it would probably need to come up quite a bit. But it gets me thinking: Do sax players try to avoid reed buzz wherever possible when the rest of us thinks it sounds great? I've recently started to re-evaluate the way I think about buzz and fret noise and have come to the current understanding that the right set up is the one that gives you control to manipulate the instrument to get the nuances you want out of it: from crystal clear, clean chords droning away in the higher registers to a thunderously buzzing finger of doom sending an open B to the depts of oblivion (as long as you are choosing to make these sounds somewhere in you) of course, when buzz and fret noise are happening with a mind of their own and wont go away, or when you feel like your hand's walking on telephone wires however, then your axe definitely needs some tlc. Apologise if I got carried away. I probably meant to stop about 10 words after the measurements.
