1970s Ibanez Thunderbird non-reverse
PlungerModerno replied to 1970's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Very quiet if the pickups aren't working.
Ah. Didn't scroll down that far. I suppose "project" in the title might have been another clue! -
I really don't like the original, so not for me!
+1 For an EVH fan - maybe with a matching guitar . . . this could be perfect though!
-
Each band to provide their own pub level vocal PA.
Interesting - if there's a good few bands this could make things a little slower - but replacing PA for vocals is a lot faster than redoing an entire sound system!

Octuple neck U bass? (The necks would be horizontal in the pic - which by the way - clearly shows quite a bit of your postal address (or at least your works postal address). Probably not a problem.
Bet they are selling beer, ask if you can provide your own beer as well as PA for the people turning up to watch.
Great idea. The idea that if bands complain - get them to supply their own PA - Pure ignorance. Have they a soundman who's agreed to this? or do they expect each act to be their own PA and soundman?

Batteriser - squeeze 8x more life from your batteries!

Very interesting. Like all technology - It's down to the products we find on the shelves that decide uptake. It'll be a great thing if it can save battery materials. (and dosh). -

Cool bass. Wonder what it sounds like? -

Would love to have the resources for this exquisite instrument. Droolworthy!
And some LEDs. Lots of LEDs.
+1 to the whole comment - but especially to the LEDs. You need LED's to get the full value out of a see through instrument.

Not quite an AK - looks more like an AR15 / M16 type dealy: Other than that it looks like it could be awesome for a metal comedy act (or just an act that doesn't take itself too serious). Much more fun than just a bunch of random pointyness! And the "magazine" may actually make it possible to play seated - always a bonus in an instrument IMO.
-
Wow. Looks like somebody got that for £100. Nice bass, good luck to it's new owner!
-
That's cool - I've seen something a bit like this on here - but I think it was a hamer or kramer - and 80's not 70's if I recall correctly.

de afwerking mk4-4++ - blablas has that building itch again

Beautiful work - All the care and attention to detail with the flat surfaces, the carves and roundovers - and the transitions between them . . . It appears to be paying off. Oil finishes are beautiful when done right. -
. . . . sounded like Blart Blaart Blaart . . . £350 price tag when everything else in the shop with a Gibson logo started around the £1000 mark.
Sounds like either a factory second with electronic issues - or a "Friday evening" bass. Gibson have been known, like all manufacturers of significant quantity, to have some gaps in the old quality control.
-
Cool Idea. Not for me unless there is a way to do it and keep it light (make it much more hollow?).
-
Cool looking basses - especially for metal! If I was looking into getting a pointy bass - I'd probably look into ESP, Dean, and other budget manufacturers to get a cheap beater. Those points are asking to get chunks knocked off - not a good thing to happen to a pricey instrument from my point of view anyway!
-
Good news I'm renewing the time and practice schedule right now (from 15 minutes most days up to an hour hopefully). It's fun, and I don't know why I've let it slide. To be reminded what made you love the instrument in the first place is a great feeling. Before you replace the pots - assuming they're just noisy from not being used - I'd recommend you try cleaning them. I find just rolling them back and forth a hundred times or more often does the trick.
-
I may well have to do the disgusting and get different tuners...
Not a terrible idea - as long as you can find something that'll just pop on and be reversible. I'd recommend getting a comfy strap anyway - you'll be very unlikely to regret it!

How many Adam Clayton sig basses do we need??!
Nailed it.
It would appear to be the case. -
Just found a clip of the CHowny from yesterday's gig.....
Nice and tight - the band that is. The bass sounds full, rich, and deep. Also looks gorgeous in greenburst.
Personally I don't need any signature basses. Surely it's solely a marketing ploy. Aren't all signature models? The new wooden warwick tuners are possibly the least attractive 'improvement' or design feature I've seen. Not for me thanks
I think they could be done right - on a Warwick star bass ebony tuning pegs might be nice. But for a streamer it seems a little off to me. Good idea as a custom shop option. Not as standard on anything IMO. -
I don't know much about bass construction (I've played 33" 5ers with lovely Bs). But what I do know is that if you increase the size of the strings core (not the guage of the winding), you increase tension. Si
+1 - for the same string construction & materials, increasing the gauge will up the tension (at the same tuning of course!). IME the difference isn't linear however. the difference between a 40 and 45 G string is much more pronounced than the difference between a 120 B and a 125B. It's been a while since I've tried to get the Perfectly balanced 5 string set.

Beautiful.

Nice. Don't rush the nut - it's going to be a fair amount of work to get it firing on all twelve cylinders! -
One previous (very overweight) owner!?...
And exactly which spare parts are worth £40?
I'm guessing if all components work, and you were trying to source them in small quantities - it could cost £40 or more. However, given it's not all that common to repair pedals (other than restoring old ones or replacing knobs & switches after they break) - At least IME - I doubt it'll be worth £40 to very many people.
