1. Ignoring for one moment that there is no answer to the question:

Does the bass player:
- make the song better?
- plant the bassline in your head?
- cause you to download the song or buy the album?
- make you tap your feet and/or nod your head to the beat?
- make you want to play air-bass on public transport when you've got your headphones on?
- cause you to want to analyse the bassline and learn it?

They are now selling weekend tickets! Naughty of them, as they weren't available at first.

You don't usually bring your own instruments to the show, you just go there, enjoy the masterclasses and performances and wander around the stands GASsing like mad :D :gas:

Thanks for that. I don't GAS anymore as I have all I could need. Famous last words. :-)

3. Add me to the list please :-) Never been to one of these before and will be traveling down from Scotland so for those 2 reasons I'll definitely make the mistake of intending to go both days. :-)

What's the done thing - do people generally bring an instrument with them or do we just wander around watching other folks play?

I got a cracking case made in Edinburgh by

http://www.warehouse...aps.php#glasgow

years ago, They now have a place in Glasgow too, might be worth a punt.

The foam lining is FBO.

Great thanks. Will give them a try.

By the way:
Happened to ask in Kenny's Music today and they referred my to a place just round the corner.
Unbelievably it is called "The Foam Centre". I thought I was in a cartoon, it being so appropriate and so close :-)
The shutters were down though - perhaps the recession has gotten to the foam business.

I'd just buy a massive sheet of foam off ebay or something, cut it, and superglue it to the case :)
Here's how it would work with me:
- Buy massive sheet of foam from ebay
- Cut it
- Try to convince myself I'd not really made a mess of it
- Reopen this thread

In this weather, I keep thinking "Quattro next time..."...

Good buy. Enjoying it?

Won't be picking it up for a few weeks yet as I'm traveling.
Will let you know how it goes :-)

7. I have a small flight case that I'd like to kit out with new foam - the old stuff having turned to powder.

Lid - all space filled with a block of foam - surface of foam flush to meet with top of foam in base.

Base - all space filled with a block of foam - apart from a slot to squeeze my XL-2 into - surface flush to meet with surface of foam in lid.

You know the score. But can anyone recommend somewhere I can get this done? Preferably by giving dimensions and drawings, without having to visit, unless it's fairly close to Glasgow or Northern Ireland.

Thanks.

stop dumping stuff in the sea, especially massive boats!

Is this because it'll only cause a certain Canadian songstress to croon about them ad infinitum?

I don't mind dying, and i don't mind life ceasing to exist, but one thing i hope, if life DID return, i genuinely hope that religion never becomes a thing again. Think of the amount of wars that would be avoided!
Couldn't have put that any better. The word "religion" is a negative word in my book. But yet so many church-goers wear it as a badge of honour. Faith would be a word that I'd be happier for these people to have and use. If that's their bag.

10. Totally agree.

"Save the Planet" is a misnomer. The planet, if the ecology spins out of control, may cease to support humans. But equilibrium will return. And life may return.

"Save us" is really what the greenies mean.

Personally I don't think we are worth saving. Observe our capitalism, lack of love for each other and how we are continually fighting and killing one another, or letting one another die as we look the other way.

Watch Big Brother.

Listen to Sandi Thom.

Then try to tell me we don't need a 'REBOOT' courtesy of a willing asteroid.

Yup.
Only cars with more kudos attached than that would be
6R4
RS200

Oh.. and they're all 4wd! ;)

Or an Audi Sport Quattro. The short wheelbase ugly duckling of which only under 200 were sold to the public.
A friend of mine bought the Tornado Red road-going one from the Patrick Collection and kept it for a number of years. He also owned (think he still does) a road-going RS200.
Another friend of mine then proceeded to buy it off him. He lent it to Audi Glasgow for a couple of years for display.
This second friend also owns a rare Copenhagen Blue road-going Sport Quattro (ex Franz Beckenbauer). And Michele Mouton's competition car which he was restoring last time we spoke.

12. Well, what can I say...

Derrick has changed my bass-playing life by answering my wanted post and selling me his beautiful (white !) Steinberger XL-2 along with a couple of cases and a flight case.

TNT tried their best to scupper the whole thing by failing 3 times to collect, but Derrick remained calm and in control. He even returned my money, telling me just to pay him IF the couriers finally managed to deliver the bass to me.

How's that for trust?! Derrick is a really really nice guy - you will not meet many people like him. I would be very happy to buy from him again (if I had any money left).

As a plan-B I had booked to fly down to London this Saturday to pick the bass up (just in case the couriers couldn't get their act together). I'm still taking the trip with my girlfriend, and am kind of sorry I'll probably not get to meet Derrick now.

13. New Bass Day! Steinberger XL-2 in White. Love at first sight!

First impressions:
- Even tinier dimensions than expected
- Beautiful condition
- Looks awesome in white; apparently very rare too
- Feels very solid and high quality - like a high end industrial tool, firearm etc. - the feel of the body and some of the parts (eg the boomerang attachment and leg rest) has the same feel and style as the equipment inside fast jets
- Probably not heavy, but you are fooled into thinking it's heavy because the brain is expecting it to be light due to how very small it is
- Sustain is insane
- Quite tight string spacing
- Reach to first couple of frets will take a bit of getting used to

So, since it's a white one (and we've generally agreed it's sub-zero on the cool-wall), as of now it's being called The Iceberger.

I'm off to play it.

14. When I first played in a band in the late 70s early 80s, the father of the guitarist and drummer drove us around in a Citroen CX GTi. I really liked them. However, that was during the blissfully ignorant part of my life before I learnt about reliability etc.

My Leon has the same engine, whoever came up with the economy figures is living in la-la land. Expect 27 to the gallon at best
Very nice car though :)

27 is fine! Bear in mind that I've been looking at Cayennes :-)
