  1. A bit out of scope for BC, but to save creating a login for a propeller headed audiophile forum I thought I'd ask our own propeller heads. Has anyone any experience, advice, or knows of any kits for making speakers for a hifi, a Quad 33/303 setup. I'm looking for BBC Ls or Roberts type of thing I suppose. Or, something updated that would be compatible. Or possibly it would be cheaper and easier to just buy some?
  2. Look on my project pink torpedo thread, @Andyjr1515 and @SpondonBassed detail it on there somewhere. You'll have to wade through a fair few random posts to find it though
  3. Yeah, but, No, but, TORT!!!!
  4. I wonder if they'll do a custom order....
  5. You distract @Jus Lukin, you hold @Andyjr1515 down and I'll grab the bass how does that sound? The Sims, will they do P - Reverse P?
  6. It's more a desire to be as hand tooley as possible more than anything else. Anyway, powered woodwork tools scare the behoozers out of me. I'm OK with fixed tool lathes and mills, but table saws and hand held routers? *shudder*
  7. @Reggaebass a Stanley 55 has popped up as available, price currently unknown, should I get it? I really just want to make some grooves to fit drawer bottoms, all the moulding irons would be wasted on me.
  8. Replace the brass doohickeys on the tuners with black?
  9. Glue a headstock on it?
  10. Or any power tool? If your hands haven't directly controlled the speed and direction of the blade on the wood... Or chewed it from solid with your own teeth. It's certainly a topic into which far more can be read than should I fear 😉
  11. Being rabidly pedantic for a moment, does that mean I have to seed my own tree, cut it, treat it and shape it. Mine and refine my own metal and plastic, wind my own wire and forge my own frets? Actually.... Hand forged frets may be an interesting experience 🤔 I do take your meaning, those who commission something and then keep us updated but are just the customer, not the luthier. But at the end of the day it's, to me anyway, all interesting and entertaining and I see no harm in discussing it, or even how hand built is a kit bass. It's all part of the conversation in this forum and we're all civilised enough to take others view's on board without getting in a tizzy over it. I need to carry on with my bitsa really. 😉
  12. Pic of what? I'm looking for a plough plane at the moment, either of the two seem to suit, but ebay prices are frisky, plus the customs on top for importing the thing and I may see if I can do it with a router plane, or, heavens forbid, an electric router!
  13. What's the other side that doesn't have a plug on it? Apropos whizzing on the electric fence, Mythbusters, IIRC, did just that. Apparently the stream separates into droplets long before it gets to the fence.
  14. A Stanley small surform is really a block plane with a cheese grater screwed to it? How chuffing expensive Record or Stanley 44s and 50s are?
  15. Lick it and see which end tingles?
  16. I understand that you can stop glue joints going walkabout by sprinkling a pinch of salt into the glue. I've never tried this as by the time I remember I'm always at least one hand and two clamps short trying to hold multiple greased bits of wood together.
  17. Is it possible to get a properly clean sound out of a MB500 Fusion? I was playing about with it last night, and even with the preamp set to nearly nothing it's still a bit fuzzy, that may be a characteristic of the amp design of course. I also accidentally found the best overall tone out of it ever, by 12 o'clocking all of the controls apart from the volumes!
  18. Nothing went crunch or sproink, so I reckon you're winning there.
  19. I'm all moist.
  20. You're laminating a bass out of matchsticks and then adding a double bass fingerboard to it? This is turning out to be an amazing project!
  21. I'm a bit surprised that He Who Should Not Have The Pìss Ripped Out Of Him On BC hasn't made a 4er out of a 5er for fat fingered bassists yet.
  22. Rock on I say. The world would be a poorer place without unhinged experimentalists trying something new.
  23. You'll be playing it like a horizontal bass rather than an upright? What does having an upright bass fingerboard on a non upright instrument do for you?
  24. Holy cow! Is your workshop flag floored and rough stone? Looks lovely from the little bits I can see. That rope veneer is alright as well.

It's got pics. Not many, and not recent but they're there.
