One thing i have noticed from the Midlands Bass Bashes is that when someone else plays my bass through my amp it sounds exactly how I want it to sound. When I play it, it doesn't.
Far too many great basses being built at the moment...hard to keep up with all of them. Have you thought about a Builders/Luthiers Bash? Bring along all the BC builds...I'd bring both of mine.
We do already, it seems to have settled at the Midlands Bash, or at least, home-made outnumbered shop-bought this year
Next job was fixing the trussrod cover. It will be held with a single pair of neodymium magnets. Because it has been cut out of the headstock plate itself, it's a very close fit and is quite thick, it needs some method of getting it out easily! Enter, one fingernail slot: And one fingernail groove in the headstock plate: And a neat, tight fitting cover that can nevertheless be removed easily when necessary: While this shot is here, worth mentioning that I still haven't decided whether to put in some hidden ferrules or not. Also, ignore the couple of gaps around the swifts - I haven't done the filling yet!
Are the grooves from the string holes a byproduct of stringing it and is there a way of having a ferrule to protect the wood?
WAIT!!! Shoot this instead, it's a favour to all of us: And it's even pink!
I'm not surprised she has a face like that, sitting astride a giant ice cube.

Are you using them directly from the desk, or does one slave off the other? I used my pair of Wharfedale Titans as stage monitoring for the local AmDram panto I did music and lights for this year. They were both working until the last night when one stopped. I tried new cables, swapping the slave/master over. All sorts. When I got them home afterwards I set them up in the living room and found a button on the back that swapped between CD/Audio in and the XLR in. Just wondering whether you have a similar setup and the button got pressed when you set up.

Why haven't you finished carving the front before starting the control cavity?

Whereas I put mine at the end to try and keep the output reasonably consistent despite what I do to the signal with drive and effects! I do have a combined compressor/noise gate though, so it sort of has to go there. Whatever works for you really

You could replicate the body shape with the top of the neck fitting where the neck pocket would be. I suspect it would look hideous, but it might be worth a mockup for a laugh

I have donated the £49 from the bass raffle and Spondonbassed's kind donation to Basschat as agreed yesterday.

Thank you all for coming. It's nice that there are so many repeat customers/offenders! Thank you to Jo, Mrs. Norris and whoever made the chocolate chip biscuits for making cake and biscuits and to those who also brought cake, this is rapidly becoming the custom bass builder and cake bash Raffling Andy's amazing prize of an acoustic bass raised £49 that will go to BC towers to keep Ped and Kiwi in Jaffa Cakes! Pictures later when I can be bothered to get up from the sofa Thank you all once again, another one next year?

IT'S BASH DAY As always despite having months to do it I always forget something. In this case it's to mention that I was going to do another raffle, so if you have any spare relevant tat or custom basses lying around then bring it

Jelly and ice cream, now there's a way to make a bass messy Unfortunately for RR I moved the event to cope with me being in Germany for our nephew's confirmation. Rest assured, all things being equal, it will be back to it's normal slot next year. Oh bugger, have I just committed to doing it *again*?

It's this Saturday guys n gals! I don't know about WiFi though.

No strippers as far as I know, unless Andy counts because of the amount of paint he's removed

Silly question, but thinking back to the drawings and mock ups, have you cut the bridge slot the wrong way, or am I seeing the top as the back? It makes sense in my mildly tipsy head!

Two people have voted for my badly play fuzzy mush? No accounting for taste is there?

A post just for the non-Brits and ex-pats.
(For some strange reason, my "b" prints out as an emoticon)
That's due to the emoticon function seeing b no space bracket as try b ) or b: -
Thank you! I was playing about with octave spacing a bit. I can get a three b "chord" using low b, A string b and G string b, but it didn't sound right with the chimeish bit, so it's only a 2 b chord. Made sense in my head anyway 😜

I done made me a noodle. It's more pot noodle than anything quality and no loopers were harmed in the making of this noodle, though it would have made it slightly easier to play!! Noodle It was played on an Aria Pro II Magna Series 5 String w/ EMG pickups into GK MB500 Fusion into Zoom H4n. B Channel with high gain on the valve pre.
Were you planning to ask for their opinion, or will your guitarist be able to make up his own mind about what he likes?
He'd like an Ibanez, but he's sensible enough to get what he needs if that doesn't suit. Unlike me who wanted a P-Bass when in reality there are thinner necked 5ers in a PJ configuration which may actually suit me better! Thank you, we'll try PMT in Northampton. A jolly to Brum with pub stop does sound like a good idea to though 🙂
