1. One thing i have noticed from the Midlands Bass Bashes is that when someone else plays my bass through my amp it sounds exactly how I want it to sound. When I play it, it doesn't.
2.
Far too many great basses being built at the moment...hard to keep up with all of them. Have you thought about a Builders/Luthiers Bash? Bring along all the BC builds...I'd bring both of mine.
We do already, it seems to have settled at the Midlands Bash, or at least, home-made outnumbered shop-bought this year
3.
Next job was fixing the trussrod cover. It will be held with a single pair of neodymium magnets. Because it has been cut out of the headstock plate itself, it's a very close fit and is quite thick, it needs some method of getting it out easily! Enter, one fingernail slot: And one fingernail groove in the headstock plate: And a neat, tight fitting cover that can nevertheless be removed easily when necessary: While this shot is here, worth mentioning that I still haven't decided whether to put in some hidden ferrules or not. Also, ignore the couple of gaps around the swifts - I haven't done the filling yet!
Are the grooves from the string holes a byproduct of stringing it and is there a way of having a ferrule to protect the wood?
4.
WAIT!!! Shoot this instead, it's a favour to all of us: And it's even pink!
I'm not surprised she has a face like that, sitting astride a giant ice cube.
5. Are you using them directly from the desk, or does one slave off the other? I used my pair of Wharfedale Titans as stage monitoring for the local AmDram panto I did music and lights for this year. They were both working until the last night when one stopped. I tried new cables, swapping the slave/master over. All sorts. When I got them home afterwards I set them up in the living room and found a button on the back that swapped between CD/Audio in and the XLR in. Just wondering whether you have a similar setup and the button got pressed when you set up.
6. Why haven't you finished carving the front before starting the control cavity?
7. Whereas I put mine at the end to try and keep the output reasonably consistent despite what I do to the signal with drive and effects! I do have a combined compressor/noise gate though, so it sort of has to go there. Whatever works for you really
8. Sure?
9. You could replicate the body shape with the top of the neck fitting where the neck pocket would be. I suspect it would look hideous, but it might be worth a mockup for a laugh
10. I have donated the £49 from the bass raffle and Spondonbassed's kind donation to Basschat as agreed yesterday.
11. Thank you all for coming. It's nice that there are so many repeat customers/offenders! Thank you to Jo, Mrs. Norris and whoever made the chocolate chip biscuits for making cake and biscuits and to those who also brought cake, this is rapidly becoming the custom bass builder and cake bash Raffling Andy's amazing prize of an acoustic bass raised £49 that will go to BC towers to keep Ped and Kiwi in Jaffa Cakes! Pictures later when I can be bothered to get up from the sofa Thank you all once again, another one next year?
12. IT'S BASH DAY As always despite having months to do it I always forget something. In this case it's to mention that I was going to do another raffle, so if you have any spare relevant tat or custom basses lying around then bring it
13. Jelly and ice cream, now there's a way to make a bass messy Unfortunately for RR I moved the event to cope with me being in Germany for our nephew's confirmation. Rest assured, all things being equal, it will be back to it's normal slot next year. Oh bugger, have I just committed to doing it *again*?
14. It's this Saturday guys n gals! I don't know about WiFi though.
15. No strippers as far as I know, unless Andy counts because of the amount of paint he's removed
16. Silly question, but thinking back to the drawings and mock ups, have you cut the bridge slot the wrong way, or am I seeing the top as the back? It makes sense in my mildly tipsy head!
17. Oh yes, list... 1. Si600 - GK rig (house rig) Fender P V so GrammeFriday can get GAS all over again! 2. Tauzero - One or two SEI's or an Ash 3. T-Web 4. Ashweb 5. Len_derby 6. Markstuk 7.
18. It's just a social really, meet people from the forum and try any basses that get brought along. Show off your own kit if you brought anything, drink tea or coffee and if you're lucky eat cake!
19. It's baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack! MBB4! I need my head looking at... The Midlands Bass Bash 2017 is taking place on the 13th May 2017 from 1200 to 1700. The venue is Brockington College, Blaby Road, Enderby, Leicester, LE19 4AQ It's easy to get to from J21 of the M1. Take the A5460 and at the first roundabout turn right onto the B4114 towards Narborough. Carry on the B4114 past Fosse Park on the right until you get to another roundabout. Turn right here onto Blaby road, the B582. Follow this road and once you cross the motorway Brockington College is the next left. In the left hand corner of the car park is direct access to the front of the school. If you want to use that to unload that's fine, but it would be appreciated if you would then park in the car park proper afterwards. The room we are using is the first door on the left, just beyond the disabled parking bays. We'll try and get a sign up with an arrow! There is a firm limit of 7 amp rigs in the room but if you have one handmade by dusky thighed maidens that is acoustically perfect in every way then I'll make an exception to the rule! The room isn't huge and I'd like to be able to hear afterwards and be allowed back next year I'm bringing my GK kit as a house rig for everyone to play through should you want to. We're going to ask for a £5 entry fee on the day. On the off chance enough people turn up to cover the costs any extra will be donated to a charity voted for by the attendees. I think that's about it, any other information will appear in this post at the top of the thread and then be bumped. Can any possible/definite/probably attendees put their names on the list so we have a reasonable idea of how many to expect.
20. Two people have voted for my badly play fuzzy mush? No accounting for taste is there?
21.
(For some strange reason, my "b" prints out as an emoticon)
That's due to the emoticon function seeing b no space bracket as try b ) or b:
22. Thank you! I was playing about with octave spacing a bit. I can get a three b "chord" using low b, A string b and G string b, but it didn't sound right with the chimeish bit, so it's only a 2 b chord. Made sense in my head anyway 😜
23. I done made me a noodle. It's more pot noodle than anything quality and no loopers were harmed in the making of this noodle, though it would have made it slightly easier to play!! Noodle It was played on an Aria Pro II Magna Series 5 String w/ EMG pickups into GK MB500 Fusion into Zoom H4n. B Channel with high gain on the valve pre.
24.
Were you planning to ask for their opinion, or will your guitarist be able to make up his own mind about what he likes?
He'd like an Ibanez, but he's sensible enough to get what he needs if that doesn't suit. Unlike me who wanted a P-Bass when in reality there are thinner necked 5ers in a PJ configuration which may actually suit me better! Thank you, we'll try PMT in Northampton. A jolly to Brum with pub stop does sound like a good idea to though 🙂
