1. I'm using a GK MB212 with my 500 Fusion, I've only used it with that though so I can't say whether it's the best cab for ithe. I like it though.
2. This un http://basschat.co.uk/topic/217616-crazy-concept-bass/page__fromsearch__1
3.
Just finished my new "digital" pedalboard; Zoom and Source Audio pedals controlled by Disaster Area MIDI controllers. Polytune->MS-60B->OFD->Manta->Orbital->MS-70CDR->M81
What's the pale blue Zoom unit?
4. My friend found Melvin Hiscock's build a guitar book in the school library. He built a guitar and as we have another friend who already sort of played guitar I built a bass. It was horrible really, but got me started. The second friend who after not really being in touch with for years is now the guitarist in my band, got me into sensible music and then I just wanted to be Steve Harris, Dave Ellefson, Jason Newsted and Frank Bello all rolled into on!
5. I'm listening to our new kids playing upstairs for the first time. They go back to the foster carers tonight until Friday but even so
6. We're sort of working on We've got to get out of this place as closer, lots of dirt and I move it down to the low B. When I get it right, it sounds colossal. When I get it wrong it turns to mush! Definitely a work in progress.
7. Attendees: 1. Si600 - GK MB500 Fusion, GK MB212 (house rig), Fender P V.
8. As it was such a success last year, we're doing it again! Psychiatrists are standing by... The Midlands Bass Bash 2015 is taking place on the 9th May 2015 from 1200 to 1700. The venue is Brockington College, Blaby Road, Enderby, Leicester, LE19 4AQ It's easy to get to from J21 of the M1. Take the A5460 and at the first roundabout turn right onto the B4114 towards Narborough. Carry on the B4114 past Fosse Park on the right until you get to another roundabout. Turn right here onto Blaby road, the B582. Follow this road and once you cross the motorway Brockington College is the next left. In the left hand corner of the car park is direct access to the front of the school. If you want to use that to unload that's fine, but it would be appreciated if you would then park in the car park proper afterwards. The room we are using is the first door on the left, just beyond the disabled parking bays. We'll try and get a sign up with an arrow! We're going to ask for a £5 entry fee on the day. On the off chance enough people turn up to cover the costs any extra will be donated to a charity voted for by the attendees. I think that's about it, any other information will appear in this post at the top of the thread and then be bumped. Can any possible/definite/probably attendees put their names on the list so we have a reasonable idea of how many to expect.
9. Probably *because* a usable compressor and noise gate in one unit is such a bargain they weren't making much money on them!
10. The problem I see with the pallet loader is getting the kit out of the car means manual intervention and what happens if there are stairs up into the venue. I think helicopters are definitely the way forward
11. Of course, PM your address and I'll get it on it's merry way.
12. It covers '91 to '96, but the car was made up until '98 so it'll probably cover up until then as well.
13. Free if anyone wants it. Goes in the bin at the weekend.
14.
Not all Haynes Manuals are usefull: http://www.amazon.co...p/dp/1844256626
I got my dad the Apollo 11 one. Not much use as a strip down and rebuild manual as most of the bits are on the moon at least the Titanic is closer
15. "Merry Christmas you 'orrible lot" said Tiny Tim
16. I saw Fish on Saturday, and he had a stand on stage with him. It didn't detract from the show for me.
17. I've called it pictures now, is that better?
18. We've had a Precisions thread, and a Limelight thread, so how about a GK owners club? I'll post mine as soon as I can get to Photobucket
19. There's a very nice Precision Deluxe V for sale in there somewhere...
20. We're only doing a few that I think others would want to do. Pretty Vacant and American Idiot are the obvious ones, Kids in America, All the Small Things and She Hates Me would be my next suggestions of popularity. Do you want the rest as well, or will those 5 suffice?
21. I went 5 years ago, having the extra range is useful, you can go low instead of high with some walking lines if the notes fit. I was mucking about with the low end at rehearsal last night. Playing "We've got to get out of This Place" starting on the low C with a bit of dirt is interesting. I liked it, but I'm not sure it necessarily works Try it, what's the worst that can happen?
22. I made mine over many lunchtimes at school after a school mate found Mervyn Hiscock's book in the school library. He made a sort of Telecaster shape and bought the neck. I made a sort of J shaped thing, but with quite pointy body horns, not intentional! It was actually reasonably well spec'd hardware wise, Schaller pre-unification M4 tuners and 3D4 bridge, Kent Armstrong jazz pickups and a strat style jack socket. All the controls were in the top horn, V V T T with a Gibson style blade switch for the pickup selection. No resistors so the tone didn't work anyway, It was going to be rear routed or rather, forstner bitted, but the piece of plastic I found for a scratchplate, (don't ask why I wanted a scratchplate with a rear control cavity), was about 5mm thick so I carved (forstner again!) it into the body and ended up with the control cavity going all the way through with a clear plastic cover on the back. The neck... Well, suffice to say that I made it myself, from scratch and fretted it with a tenon saw and a hammer. It didn't have an adjustable truss rod, just a square section steel bar under the fingerboard, which was in two parts IIRC as the blank was for a guitar. The fret ends were filed of with a huge file and left V marks on the fingerboard at the end of each fret. It was only in tune with open strings and itself. It was badly painted gloss black all over, including the neck. I've no idea what wood was used for it, but it was bloody heavy and quite frankly looked horrible when it was finished. But it was mine and I made it. Eventually the string tension pulled the neck off, there was a gap you could get a biro in at the end. My amp was an old radio amp my dad acquired from somewhere, two oval speakers and we built a varnished plywood box for it that was also very heavy. Beyond all expectation the whole ensemble actually worked even if it did look like something the dog had dragged in, half eaten and then sicked up. I found the remains in my parents loft and cannibalised the parts to refresh my Arai Pro 2 (See build diary thread). Then I got a £120 P-Bass copy from Chapppells in MK. That probably counts as the first "real" bass and was a dream to play comparatively. Then I broke it for parts intending to make a Saints tribute bass, and then sold it as I now only play 5s. The body and neck were sold on here not so long ago as was the bridge.
23. By George, I believe they have a Theremin!! Thursday - Everyone should see Dick Venom and the Terrortones at least once, even if you decide it's not your thing. It was a good evening all round, not as busy as I have seen the Billy, my preferred artistes being Mr. Venom and his gang, naturally , and Blackballed. The Terrortones came out in black leather jackets and sunglasses, except Mr. Venom who wore a long coat which was soon discarded along with his sleeveless leather jacket. A mostly naked man cavorting around the pub, climbing on the bar and then disappearing out of the door trailing his mic lead is something to behold! I enjoyed the songs, but not knowing their material I can't tell you the setlist. However, I am going to see if I can get them from somewhere. As part of the merch stand, they have a 7" vinyl single and a cassette tape! Yes, a real tape. I didn't see if a biro came with it just in case though
