Bridge and neck fitted Inserts are a barsteward to get in straight aren't they? I think two or three are actually perpendicular. I used a ring spanner eventually to hold them upright.

I did think of it, but wondered whether being so close to the neck may cause the strap to pop off? I can always try it. If it doesn't work plug and redrill. It's at the back, no-one is ever going to see it.

Although it doesn't have a top horn (Stop sniggering there at the back) there's no reason the button couldn't go in the normal place. I'm baaaaack! Slowly at least. I have spent a quiet hour in the cellar fitting the ancillaries, jack plate, tuners, nut. Everything that can be done without making a noise as our little ones room is directly above the workshop. I've got to the strap buttons and the rear one is easy, it's the front one I'm cogitating over. I had planned to just use a neck bolt, but I need one 10mm longer, and they only come in packs of ten. They're not exactly expensive, but then what do I do with 9 m4x50 countersunk bolts? Build nine more basses I suppose.... So the other thought, as there's no neck plate I can just put it where I like, in between the holes like so: Thunks?

I can't remember if I've asked this before, so forgive me if I have, but can you tap test closed pickups? I've got some Delano Quad core ones and I want to know if I've wired them up how I want them.

Why did he want a single pickup so high up? It looks a bit odd to my eyes, but then, it's not my guitar, so tough!

Has anyone used a pre slotted nut like the Warwick Just a Nut? Not for that price but Allparts have a basic injection moulded version of it.

I think the way to go is to mark out the centre line front and back. Then do the check lines front and back and then just follow the lines around the edge of the body. Use the thin pinstripe tape rather than wide builders tape. I think you'll find it may be an easier job than it first appears. There's a complete 3x3 grid between the bridge and scratchplate so that gives the dimensions of the squares.

Or.... put a side jack on it, then you don't even need to fill the hole! Though looking at your angles I think you will have trouble making the holes line up.

Alternatively....... as you're painting it you could go through the right side of the body, through the control cavity and into the pickup cavity in the same plane and then just plug the hole in the side.

Carefully... A normal twist drill bit will do it, but, and it's a very big but, it needs to be long enough so the end of the drill comes out into the other cavity before the drill chuck hits the body. You also need to be aware of the angle you're drilling at, it's all to easy to get the angle wrong and come out too low, too high or out the back of the body. Looking at your picture I personally would come from the pickup to the control cavity because the control cavity looks too narrow to get a decent approach to reach the pickup if you get what I mean. In the spirit of full disclosure, the only time I've tried it I made such a mess I cut a channel and put a scratchplate on it.

Is that all the bracing it gets? From my recollection of looking in sound holes acoustic guitars are like a boat inside, ribs and frames everywhere.

Is it particularly damp or cold in Italy at the moment? I don't know how epoxy works or if it's affected by the weather.
