1/4 Jack to XLR

I've not got an XLR out from my little amp, just a 1/4 jack. The GK has one, but I'm not using that this time. I've got one on my tuner though, which has a 0, -10 and -20 db switch, would that be safer to use? Even just having a cursory Google throws up all sorts of weird things that look shiny but I have no idea whether any of it is any good or not. I'm very definitely in the shallow end of this very big pool I'm going to suggest that if the singer wants the speakers to hear himself then that's fine but we'll get a recorder like the H4n instead of the M-Audio thing and carve the soundfile up on a PC afterwards.

1/4 Jack to XLR
Ah. In that case...
I know what the magic bit is supposed to be now. One of these http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/MTrackQUADNew.html I've no idea whether it's any good or not but... He's also talking about these; http://www.equatoraudio.com/D5-Coaxial-Studio-Monitors-p/d5.htm which I'm assuming is because we have no means of attaching a mic to anything so he can hear himself sing! It all looks rather funky, but I'm going to look for an H4n in the meantime!

Not an H4 or is it not as good as the H2?

1/4 Jack to XLR

All I got this morning was an email asking whether my amp had an XLR line out on it. It doesn't, but it does have a 1/4 line out. Which is why I asked whether the 1/4 to XLR cable would work. What will actually happen I have no idea, I'll find out next time we meet up. If anything sensible comes out of the other end I'll post it so you can laugh at my shonky playing

1/4 Jack to XLR

Are all DI's at mic level then? So in my practice setup where I have a little 25w Marlin combo with a line-out on the back and my tuner on my board has an XLR DI out the two outputs will be at different levels? Why should line level be different from mic level? We don't have a mixer, our singer is talking about recording us using some sort of MIDI input with an output to a Mac. Until I actually see it I haven't much of an idea of what he's talking about, I'm just the bass player after all I would like to start recording us and I'd like to learn more about the dark arts of doing so, I did the lighting desk for a year at Uni but never got to play with the audio side. We're nowhere near being a real band yet, we don't even have a human drummer, just a Boss Dr Rhythm
6. While that sounds tremendously cool, what I actually meant was could we get a desk that would allow us to record our practice sessions as well as being able to mix a PA when necessary. Something like a mixer with a built in HDD or a USB interface for connecting a PC to.
7. Thank you

1/4 Jack to XLR

Thank you. What's a line level input?
9. Silly question, can you get multi track mixers that also have a recording function so that we can use the same desk to record ourselves and deal with a PA?
10. We are looking to start recording our practice sessions and at the moment neither my guitarist or I have any XLR line-out on our practice amps. Is it possible to take a 1/4 to XLR cable from the normal line-out socket on the combo to a mixer with XLR inputs?
11. Just to clarify in my own head, (and defeat GAS ) the consensus is that for UK power a mains conditioner isn't necessary and that the amp itself should be robust enough in it's design to cope with power irregularities anyway? Snake oil or is it worth getting one for the current/load protection anyway? I'm looking at the Samson Powerbrite PB10 because it ahs the C13 ports on the back and the blurb claims it does surge protection, peak voltage spike clamping and RFI/EMI filtering. Whatever they are!
12. Stay natural. I think it complements the neck and having them green would lose the contrast on the body. Nice bass though which ever colour you decide
13. Bonjour Tom! I do love it when someone is showing off his new bass being built and then the luthier joins the forum as well. I love the thin black lines on the neck. Beautiful work.
14. Gonna get my ticket sometime this week Hopefully have more time to hang about with you chaps afterwards, last week was just crazy busy for me, including recruiting a new vocalist the day after seeing you
15. Going by the pound sign, I'd go with the G30
16.
The best and most expensive vdrum kit won't work through an under powered PA, you need lots of watts to recreate the earsplitting crack of a real snare.
Do you? I hadn't thought of that aspect to it. So basically we're looking at a quality kit plus a quality PA to get the best out of it?
17. Cheers for that. I'll work out actual costings and if anything happens I'll post pics when it's finished
18. Does anyone perform regularly with a drummer using an electronic kit? What are your thoughts on the sound or visual impact of not having a traditional kit on stage with you?
19. Does anyone have any experience with the Warmoth necks and bodies? I really fancy a rear routed PJ P-Bass 5er, basically the Duff Mckagan Signature model but with another string. Getting a full custom build is a bit (lot!) out of my budget and Warmoth do a P-Bass 5 Deluxe body for about $200 plus shipping. So $400 plus shipping for the woodwork and then the hardware, some of which I already have seems a better budget than getting someone to make me what I want. Though I do fancy the Shuker Build-a-Bass week course, just to make me save up some more Edited for spelling
20. This bass is even more crazy in the wood as it were, how it stays in one piece I have no idea I'd be interested in how far the gap between the horn the bridge is attached to and the side of the skull closes when it's strung and tuned though.
21. A little review of last night. Deadfire - The Craufurd Arms, Wolverton. 23-10-13 The Deadfire tour has had a lot of gigs fall through, it's Ou7shined's story so I'll let him tell it if he wants to, but they've had to rush about finding places to play. Last nights show was supposed to be in Coventry, but ended up in Wolverton. A somewhat odd gig in that it was the pub's weekly Open Mic night and not a "regular" show but the band were up as the feature band and put on a good performance. All the musicians I saw were of the highest standard playing a variety of styles including reggae, blues and a sort of blues rock. The local lads had their own mates in as support which filled the pub up although it was by no means busy but the landlords were enthusiastic about the evening and certainly danced about enough. Deadfire kicked off with "War", a proper widdly riffed bit of headbanging material. The rest of the set was just as good with some great riffs from Gordon, sold drums from Tunk and dancing basslines from our own Ou7shined who is in danger of banging his head on the floor at some point, whilst Charlie on vox was wandering off the front of the stage to become part of their own audience I think they did an excellent job all things considered, problems with the tour and playing to a mostly empty pub though Charlie got a few people in front for the last song, "My Crown" by wandering around and dragging folks in from the periphery Hopefully they'll be back down this part of the world again soon and in a position to play a named gig. I even had the privilege of holding the Goat-on-a-stick bass

23. The wee parcel has started it's adventure oop ta Bonnie Scotland
24. Now if the P was a 5er...
25. Does it have to be gigged? I'd be up for it if not.
