I saw these guys in Kitzbühel earlier this year and I'd forgotten all about them until I was looking for something else on YouTube. We popped in for a couple and enjoyed it so much we stayed to the end. Is the neck glued on?

Is it worth getting a decent mixer that would form part of a PA at a later date?

TBH down tuning one string isn't exactly difficult I just like over-engineering the solution

Can you get single ear headphones at all? I find that if I listen to a track with my Walkman ear buds I can follow the bass much better, but then I can't hear my playing, especially if I'm not plugged in. I usually use just one of the ear buds, but as they're stereo I'm worried about missing bits as I haven't got both of them in. Is there a single mono earbud solution, or any bit of kit that I can plug the output from the Walkman, or laptop, into so that I can play along and hear it at the same time?

I was playing with odd tuning last night, DADG for Killing in the Name. Just out of curiosity is there an effect patch or stompbox that would replicate that, like a mutant octaver or something? The more I think about it as I write the more problems I can see with it so it's probably been tried and thrown away as a bad idea!

You can use split bicycle chain to mount pedals, you could make up some wooden rectangles and screw the pedals to those and then put the Velcro on the wood. I won't be near a computer for another day or so, so can't post pics, but if you search for my 19" Pedal Board Build in the build diaries thread you'll see what I mean :-)

In the meantime, how do I enter the competition for the Zoom MS60B?

Put them together and it's a whole new sound. There's a solid body to it from the GK and the Boss adds a layer of bright snarlyness to it. I quite like it but it's a one song thing I think, adding the Boss for a chorus maybe otherwise you're trying to bash two pedals at once which doesn't quite work!

I've not got either Zoom yet, see "What Effect" thread, but the MS60B is looking very nice for the price. I suppose that I could mount an extension block in the case along with the pedal board. When I build the case of course Hmmm, it might not be a bad idea anyway...

I've got an effects power question, can you run a 9v 500ma unit from a 9v 300ma supply? Both the Zoom B3 and MS60B are 500ma but my board supply only has options for 100 or 300ma.

I'll try it when I get home and see what happens The Zoom B2 looks like a tidy bit of kit as well, I'm not sure it's as customisable as the MS60B though. Anyone using a B2?

Good idea, thanks. When I hear "multi-effect" I always think of the big box with five switches that each do their own thing. I hadn't thought about a programmable stomp-box. Is it still true that dedicated boxes are better than their programmable counterparts? It doesn't help that I don't really know which effect is which and what they sound like

This is proper noob question, well, what do you expect from a proper noob and I realise that there are a million different answers and it's all subjective anyway. I've got a GE7B and I'm using the inbuilt O/D on my amp for a bit of dirt when I need it. So far both have done me well, using the EQ on the chorus or if there happens to be a bit of a solo line ( ) for a bit more presence and using the O/D all the way through if it suits the song. Our repertoire is decidedly punky, but with forays into AC/DC and ZZ Top. I've got three 'slots' on my board and I'm not scared of a little tap-dancing or using effects in our originals, what would you suggest putting on it?

Why do you want it to age quickly? I'm not saying that you shouldn't, but why not just let it gain it's own patina and "story" instead of scruffing it up? Then when you're old and have your great grandchild pick it up you can tell them that that scrape was from that gig, and that dent was when I was too drunk to hold it properly Just MHO by the way it's your bass after all

I asked about learning basslines by ear the other day and I was pointed in the direction of Audacity which I then got. Has anyone any tips on how to best isolate the bassline in a track? I've tried slowing it down and messing with the equalisation but all I seem to get is a muddy mess which is worse than trying to learn from the original. Am I on the right lines or is there some other function in the program that I haven't found yet? TIA Simon

I rarely get to wind my amp up because I quite like being on good terms with my wife and the neighbours but when I do I can really hear my fingers sliding on the strings moving from note to note. Is this just bad techinque that I need to work on or is it a symptom of just playing far too loudly?

I also thought that the sharps and flats denoted the key, but that does mean you need to know which set of notes are in a key to begin with. Or I'm talking out of my backside again.
