1. One 17" current model Ford Fiesta Street Pack alloy wheel. It's been professionaly straightened but it's still scruffy. Collection from near Daventry if you want it.
2. Roger Manganelli from Less Than Jake
3.
Well the signal coming out of the FX loop is usually a line-level low-impedance signal, so it will survive cable travels better than the signal from your bass. But most pedals are designed to operate with an instrument-level signal at the input - not line-level - and some (vintage fuzz circuits particularly) operate best when fed a higher impedance signal from the passive pickups of a guitar/bass and don't sound so great when fed by active electronics, so they would no doubt be even worse in an FX loop. In short: 9m is (IME) enough cable to suck tone, but after the first 3m you've got your amp so the signal gets buffered right there. From there you're looking at a mere 6m run to the board and back which isn't too bad at all, but you might find your pedals don't like the signal you're giving them.
Thanks At the risk of properly derailing the original thread, what's the FX loop for if it doesn't supply the right signal for a pedal board?
4. What happens to signal degredation via cable if you use the FX loop? 3m from bass to the amp, 3m out to the board and then another 3m back to the amp before it hits the speaker? Just asking really, 9m of cabling may not make a huge difference but I'm curious whether it does.
5.
MB1. Why turn a seven string into a six string?
If you're going to do something as daft as that, at least change the pickup to a six pole one so they line up with the strings... I wonder how much a seven string Jackson is new, the only reverse headstock hardtail Jackson I can see is the JS32RT which retails from GAK for £226.
6. I'd like to take credit for it, but it wasn't my idea. I got it from the 'net somewhere. I'll accept your plaudits and beer though
7. I'm probably being extremely dense here as usual, but can you use a wireless as IEM as well? My understanding of wireless is that it goes from the bass to the amp via the ether, through the effect send/return if needed and then to the speaker. At what point does the signal come back to you if you're using it as IEM if it can be used so? Presumably the IEM pick up point is your transmitter on the bass so that you get the clean sound in your ear before any amp/effect processing? I'm looking at the Line6 G90 Relay at the moment more for bling and rackability than any real need for it, damn GAS
8. With the "Master Axe Sharpener"'s penchant for cutting the "zero fret nut" to within a gnats cock of the fingerboard, I wonder what he'll do if he ever gets a guitar with a locking nut on it?
9. It's been removed...
10. Can't say I blame him, those last C# A# C# sound horrible in context with the D and E preceding them
11. Shall we stop there then and go away and contemplate the horror of our creation? Watch this space for links to odd jazz tunes
12. Actual responses and from a decent number of people who all seem to be insomniacs We've got 13 tones so far, D F# Ab B A E G# C F F C Bb D How many do people think we need before we stop the thread and start interpreting and posting our efforts? MODS: Should this thread be in the Recording section?
13. How about this; we each post a note, wait until there is a good number of posts and then put up our interpretation of what we get? Rules: 1 One note per post 2 No double posts, wait until someone else has posted, but you can post the same note 3 When playing, any pitch goes but the notes must be in order posted 4 You can play in any time and rhythm you like, if you want to do it all in sixteenths that's up to you Any takers? Bearing in mind that I am the death of posts so you'll all ignore me anyway but I'll start with D
14.
Anyone else a GD fan?
ep, both myself and the missus watch it. This weeks was interesting, liked it but I wouldn't want to live there. I thought Man Made House was interesting, if a little self indulgent, but it was fun to watch I love the chair from a tractor linkage, want one!
15. Hmmm, I hadn't considered damage to the decor from a mishandled metal edged box How about hybrid valve/ss amps?
16. I'm going to start this here, but if it's thought that it should be in the Gear section then please will a mod move it. I'm looking at flight cases, for no better reason than I can and I want to make one for my pedal board. I'm also considering getting one for my amp when I actually get one that I can case up. My real question is, ply/hex board or ABS cases? I personally prefer the old skool black box with silver edges look and think the ABS ones just look plain fugly, but I'm prepared to overlook that if they are better than a solid wood case. Also, shockmount or not? Discuss
17. I've ssen lots of instructional bits on the net about building a flightcase, make a box cut the top of and mount with extrusions, but has anyone any experience of making rack cases? How do you mount the rails in them, are they just screwed into the inside of the case?
18.
... too loud! (I know - I'm too old...) Once the volume wars begin, there is no winner.
Not strictly true, an iPod through a 50w Marshall Combo drowned the neighbours party stereo It was neither big nor clever but it was FUN
19.
Here's a few pics of the work done today Coming together : The piece on the left is for the footswitch to my TC RH450 Here's a pic with a couple of pedals "onboard"
Build Diary Apologies if you've already started one...
20. Don't forget to cut the slots in the nut to within a mm of the fingerboard, oil the pots and liberally coat the thing in beeswax Having just seen the inexperienced bit please, please, please don't do any of the above! I'm making fun of a certain "gluthier"...
21.
There's odd... Mine was a blue 5-string too, but I sold it because it couldn't cope with a high-C, the ergonomics were a bit lacking & I landed an RSB-Deluxe 5 which made it redundant. The neck was nice - quite slim considering & the single coil p/ups had a good growl about them. My biggest gripe with it was that the body didn't have a round-over edge, & there was nowhere to anchor my thumb so was a bit uncomfortable on the right hand. Very definitely post-Matsumoku, probably '90s Korean manufacture. Put it in a stand when not in use as the headstock is scarf-jointed to the neck around the third fret & they don't take kindly to being dropped. Good "beater" & well worth £70 IMO. P.
To resurect an old thread, mine is a blue 5 string and I've not quite just spent twice its market value on pups and a new bridge
22. I wonder if Mr Phillips will branch out into DB restoration/improvement.
23. I'm sure the point of this section is to point out useful eBay items that people may have missed, but as there also seems to be a reasonable amount of OMG items I thought I'd post this for your eddification. Apologies if it's already been spotted. 24.
There's a fab motorbike thread here and I've just put up some new pics. Let's see your Aprilia on it.
I'm on page 38 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/17518-so-who-rides-motorbikes-then/page__st__740__p__1737418#entry1737418 We were doing stuff in the garden on Saturday and I looked it over with a view to having a play if Sunday was nice, which it was. It's got a flat rear tyre, so no playtime It did mean that I had more time for working in the garden on Sunday which meant I got to use my chainsaw so all was not completely lost Anyway, back to painting basses...
25. Give it until the end of the month.
