1. Great band! 3 great individuals and for once a 'supergroup' has gelled brilliantly.
2. I've never dealt with GAK, but they used to get a lot of flak and it has stuck in my mind so I would probably think twice about them myself. I bought a cheap fretless from Thomann some years ago - no problems at all.
3. I'm not sure whether I'm more offended by the extra pups or the antigua finish. I have always HATED that finish!
4. Just looked it up on YouTube - looks fascinating! I can't throw that sort of money at it but in an ideal world I'd definitely love to get one. If I win the lottery I'll be back ...

TRADED

I love the look of the green one! A string too many and not enough frets (to the tune of about 22) for me though.
6.
I'm not too keen on 'advertising' it to anyone whilst I'm still thinking about it! I'm not saying that anyone else would want it, but it would be soooo annoying for someone else here to get it first!
Nooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It got sold Sandberg TM4HCA I was gonna take a long drive to check it out this week but couldn't get a day off work in the end.
7. Envy! I'm a massive fan of all things FD, and I love his banter when live. I'd dearly love to get to one of his house concerts
8. Showing my 'bass' ignorance here! In bass terms, Humbuckers vs single coil: what's the difference? Why would you pick one over the other? With guitars I've generally thought of them in terms of HBs for gain/distortion etc and SCs for clean, but the same thing doesn't really apply to bass. Also, it always seems a bit strange to me that on many basses there is a bridge HB, and then another HB right next to it. Why not have the second one up near the neck? Do they actually sound that different when so close to each other?
9.
>Reggie Hamilton Custom shop V I hope it is not sonic blue! Yikes! Super tasty!
Nah, sunburst.
10.
Fair play, but let us know in due course eh? For the record, I agree with hamfist; given the Squier is a cheapy, having both isn't terribly extravagant.
To be honest, the problem in our house is space. Between me and son no 1 we have around 6 basses, 10 electric guitars and 2 acoustics hidden about the place. Add to that my 2 keyboards, 4 amps, electronic drumkit and chapman stick. Mrs A is not happy at so much as the mention of another instrument!
11.
Details?
I'm not too keen on 'advertising' it to anyone whilst I'm still thinking about it! I'm not saying that anyone else would want it, but it would be soooo annoying for someone else here to get it first!
12. Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I'm a bit torn though as I've seen a bass that I would LOVE! 100% what I'd like in a bass, and it won't be available forever.
13. After a long hiatus of not playing bass, I came back to it and surprisingly found that I had transformed to a 4 string player rather than 5. Out of the blue I was really into my 4 and just couldn't seem to hit off with the 5. I'm one of these people who can't switch around - too confusing! Anyway, a plan hatched to get rid of my 'old flame', a Reggie Hamilton Custom shop V, and buy a new super duper 4 to take its place (probably a Sandberg). But here's the thing ....... Having done a decent 'ageing' job on my no 1 guitar, I fancied doing the same to a bass, so I bought a cheap Squier jazz. The problem now is that I am in love with the Squier! It seems a bit mad to throw a lot of money at an expensive bass when I'm having so much fun with this one! Gonna have to have a good think about this.
14. That looks like fun, I'd love to see what sounds I could get. I still have my trusty old Korg N264 for all keyboardy stuff. Must be very old hat by now.
15. Well, swimming against the stream I really like Jeff Beck, I really like bass solos and I would take Vai and Satch every day of the week over Dylan and Harrison. I hasten to add that a lot of Satch and Vai bores me, but I think their respective best stuff is sublime. Can't sit through 2 songs in a row of Dylan ranting, although Harrison has produced a couple of pleasant songs. Jeff at his best: I really like the live at Ronnie Scotts stuff. Top drawer geetaring for me.

New guitar?

I like the look of the Richie Kotzen Jap made tele. Pretty chunky neck I believe so may suit you. I think there's one fundamental question to start with though: trem or no trem?
17. I'm more of a guitarist than a bassist if truth be told. This is my main guitar, self built. Actually I posted a thread about making it here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/210039-so-i-built-my-ideal-guitar/
18. Sent a question over to Bass Direct and got a reply the next morning. Much better service!
19. Maybe outboard is the best suggestion. I don't generally like pedals etc and never use any at all, but it might be the best solution. I'll give it some thought.
20. I like the sound of active basses, but I also like the look of a trad jazz bass with just the 3 knobs. Is there any way to get onboard active sound without the necessity of a bunch of stacked knobs? I have simple tastes, I'm not really one for endless sound sculpting possibilities.
21.
One mail to a company, no follow up, big deal, then you flame them publicly on here, goes beyond harsh in my books.
In all fairness, I have backtracked since my first comment and apologised! (post 8)
22. A useful reply, however, I do wonder why people set up an email address and court questions when they can't be bothered to answer, or if they don't have time to answer. I tried buying pickups from someone a couple of years ago, he answered my first enquiry, but then I could get nothing else out of him in terms or ordering. It was very frustrating so I went to eBay and bought an alternative instead. I was clearly committed to an order. I had trouble with a luthier as well, tried to throw a chunk of money his way but he never answered emails. I eventually found that phoning was fine but email enquiries were ignored 90% of the time. Worst of the lot is Chapman sticks in America, who never seem to answer anyones emails (well documented). If you aren't going to respond, for any reason, don't set it up as a route of enquiry!
