1. Hmmmn, maybe I should get my act together and put my bass up for sale ......
2. Thanks for that! I looked at Thomann quite a long time ago and they didn't have any, so I assumed that they were unavailable now. Mine is sunburst. As per your advice, I am in no rush to get rid of it, I do feel attached to it and part of me worries about regretting it, but if I'm honest with myself I can't see me getting back into 5 strings.
3.
Just a quick one, but when do you ever really touch the fretboard?
Well, if you must know, it's when we are all alone with the lights down and Barry White is playing quietly in the background ......
4. The stuff I love to play is all Christian tracks that probably no-one here has heard of. Prob my favourite is called "better than life'. It's uptempo and I play it with busy aggressive fingerstyle most of the way with slapping towards the end, so it covers all the fun stuff for me! If I had to pick a more 'regular' type song then probably Eton Rifles.
5. Hmmmn, thinking long and hard about selling what has been my main bass for some years, but I'm not really sure of value. They don't turn up much and I can't seem to find any documentation relating to what I paid for it. It is a Fender custom shop Reggie Hamilton 5 string and is (mostly) in very good nick. Do the bass gallery still do commission sales? It is an awesome bass, but after many years of thinking I was a 5 string player, I finally bought a really good 4 and it feels so much like home it's unbelievable. Literally haven't touched the Fender in months.
6. I love status bass necks. no probs at all as far as I'm concerned.
7. Very nice! I would have loved to relieve you of that in other circumstances.
8.
Don't really bother with the new classifieds,tbh... but then I am not on the hunt for anything either. That didn't always stop me using/checking-out the old FS section, tho..
That's me exactly
9. I was an usher at a concert for him and his daughter once. I have to say that I don't get that music though, I can't relate to it at all.
10. Rockin all over the world is one of those iconic songs from when I first discovered music. I love Rossi and Parfitt, they have been a great double act on TV over the years in interviews etc. I laughed out loud when I saw their album called 'In search of the fourth chord' - great tongue-in-cheek brit humour! A classic band!
11. Watched the first video, very interesting. I'm impressed with the economy of your technique, it's something I'd be very keen to get to grips with. Initial impression having tried is that it's going to be tricky! I really like the piece of music that you fired up with as well. I started looking at the second video, but them thought I'd concentrate on the technique in the 1st one for now. I nipped over and subscribed to your site as well! Thanks for posting!
12. For lunchbreaks I nip in the spare room for practice. I keep an acoustic guitar, strat, bass, keyboard, guitar amp (and chapman stick when I had a spare) at work. So yeah, people I know are aware of my noodlings, and sometimes others drop in to see me and get a surprise! I'm pretty introverted with playing though so I try and keep a low profile.
13. SIMS will retrofit LEDs for you, although it would probably cost £400-500. I got some added to my chapman stick and they are ace! The advantage being that you can keep a great playing instrument, and choose the LED colour.
14. Learn guitar then bass is easy [runs for cover]
15.
Lower your action .....
Yeah, less groupies should help! I have an ache in my fretting little finger that has been around for months - worrying. I think it's the start of bad things.
16. I've always thought that high up basses look ultra nerdy and uncool, and over accentuate the 'limp wristed' plucking hand look - which I also hate! so I like it pretty lowish, but just high enough to do slapping still. Haven't looked in a mirror to see how low/high it looks though. Pretty much always kept the same height though.
17.
.... 'Advanced Sap Bass'.
Yup, that sounds like me! I'm at work right now but I'll be checking these out later, thanks.
18. Not keen on yearly sub, doesn't seem all that 'fair' as some will shift shedloads of stuff and others like me might buy/sell one thing in a year.
19. My fave Sanborn record is 'as we speak'. Once again, great playing from Miller throughout.
20. No way is it decided before. You could never get away with that when the public are paying to vote. The S*** really hit the fan a few years ago when they figured that 'some' people voted and they weren't counted on some shows. I don't watch the show, but I have seen Jahmene's first audition and I have to say that I loved it. Not sure what else he's done though.
21. Hmmmmn .... strange idea, let's throw in other guitarists that we like???? Keneally and Petrucci - both amazing players (seen them both live and own CDs as well), but they just don't have the soul of Page and Beck. Horses for courses though really isn't it. I'm going for ........... Page. Ultimately I would rather spend time on a desert island with his discography than Jeffs.
22. I'm desperate for one of these having tried one, but I have no dosh right now. I'm trying to decide whether or not to let my jazz 5 string go having gone back to 4's now, but it's a tough decision ....
23.
Depends on how you look at it - Beck purely as a guitar player but Page for producing the best music!
Good answer - I like that!
