1. The thing that REALLY annoys me with that guy is that he sticks a custom shop logo on the back of the headstocks. That really is conning people. Fender should sue his ass off.
2. I would think impossible with a skinny jazz fretboard! No room for 5 strings. An act of madness!
3. Wow! some major lists! Mine is fairly short: CWG winner (SOLD) Yamaha RBX (SOLD) Hohner jack 5 (long term loan out) Status 5 string (SOLD) Harley Benton Fretless 5 Fender Jazz V Reggie Hamilton Custom shop Status S2
4. Well it would have been nice to see it. I guess that some people can't handle that darned fangled t'interweb thing.
5. I can't seem to swap. Started on 4's but went 5 many years ago. I totally couldn't relate to 4's any more. Now, after many years I have gone back to a 4 and it feels so good can't believe it. Absolutely feels like home and has re-energised my playing beyond belief. After 2 weeks I just couldn't seem to remember how to play a 5 any more! I think I'm gonna sell my fabulous 5 string.
6. Sounds awesome! I'd have gone for the LEDs though. I'm not sure I'd use them in public but I absolutely love practicing in a darkened room with them on! (ooer!)
7. Can't afford it but lookin forward to the pix!

Guitar Rig 4

I've had GR2, 3 & 4. I first got it when all the mags raved about it's brilliance, but to be honest I've found it disappointing. I like to use gain type sounds with a guitar, and they all seem to have horrible amounts of hiss. The noise gates etc just seem to kill the tone dead with that horrible clipping. Didn't like any of the bass sounds and I've never felt bothered to tweak them either. If they could cure the hiss I would love it. It's OK for other types of sounds.
9. I don't gig, but as I play several instruments I pretty much pick up something every day to play. I think I'd still noodle around on bass even if I was gigging as to me music is the 'my thing' that is relaxation after a day in the office and a 32 mile drive home in rush hour. Re: Gary Moore. I'd imagine that he was just throwing out an off-the-cuff soundbyte rather than Chapter 1 of the Gospel according to Gary, so I don't think it needs to be treated so seriously!
10.
Hendrix was just something else, a real pioneer. Larry Graham is a hell of a player and has a voice like God, but you can't compare him to Hendrix.
That's what I was thinking. And like it or not, the bass as an instrument just doesn't have the same standing as the electric guitar. My mum at 78 has heard of Hendrix, and my 16 year old nephew wears a hendrix T-shirt, but I've never met anyone other than bass players who have even heard of Larry Graham. (great player though)
11.
I have managed to play a whole song without catching on I was actulally playing a different song to the band. Wondered why I was getting funny looks. Audience didn't notice!
laughed at that!
12.
It's not the length but what you do with it that counts. ;-)
Ho ho, good one! So how do you Measure scale length? I want to check what mine are now!
13. Can't believe any punter ever notices when a bassline is the the same as the original - unless it's a feature of the song eg Money, Come together etc.
14. Nice indeed. Is that really improv? sounds more like a composition.
15. I REALLY don't like the scratchplates, but it looks brilliant without them! lovely bass
16. I've had 8 basses over the years. A modest number, but a reflection of the fact that I see myself as someone who plays bass occasionally rather than a bass player. Anyway, it occurred to me that I have no idea of the scale length of any bass I have owned, including my current ones. I see the odd post where someone doesn't want to buy a bass because it's this scale or that scale, does it really make such a massive difference? Am I the only person that doesn't even consider it around here, or are there more like me??
17. [sup]I had a squier strat body and the finish was rock hard. Red nitromors failed. I took a blowtorch to it and that failed too! It bubbled up furiously into a very thick sticky gunk that still refused to scrape off! It was like a mega-thick treacle. Gave up in the end and body is buried somewhere in the garage.[/sup] [sup]Did a fender strat body once and the blowtorch was brilliant. it was all just pinging off as I scraped. Whole body done in no time at all and the burns looked so cool that I left it like that[/sup]
18. I used one to patch up my sons bass. It was white with 2 'massive' chips missing, I filled them then sprayed over. Not brilliant but good enough on a cheap instrument.
19. I was desperate for one of these a few years ago and couldn't find one. No dosh now. Did try one once, very nice!
