Well they have an innate ability to highlight mopey old fogeys like me who are out of touch ....
-
The charts are pure mockery now. They want a chart based on streams rather than purchases, however .... Apparently that doesn't work as many 'older' songs would be permanently in the charts, so .... They don't count all the streams of older songs, but .... They also cheat if they feel like it, eg. Kate Bush running up that hill they 'decided' to count all streams and push it to number 1. Well, that's fair then ... Maybe they do the same at Xmas with Xmas songs? The whole thing is garbage as far as I am concerned. Still, what do I care, I haven't followed the top 40 for a great many years. Apparently 'Ladbaby' had the number one for the past 5 years. I've only ever heard their first.

Anyone else got a particularly long finger nail?
Angel replied to Big J's topic in General Discussion
I spent decades biting my nails from teens on. Never really low, but just instead of cutting them. It only stopped when I got older and my teeth wore down in a way that my incisors were no longer sharp enough. -
I never liked that Christmas Wrapping song so I never paid any attention to it, I never realised that the bassline was so darned interesting!

Never had a problem with nails on a bass, but I HATE playing piano when they get too long and click a bit. -
Nice OP image! Prog is my fave music

Scratching your initials into the front of your bass.......!
Angel replied to Chewie's topic in General Discussion
Looks cool to me. The initials wouldn't put me off but the price does! -
@toneknob Although as mentioned I do prefer the flat top design, wow that is another really fabulous looking bass!
-
I much prefer the flay top myself. I saw the same bass rounded off and thought nah, not for me.

Not sure if this will work as its a Facebook photo. Someone is selling this bass, an F bass BN5 in matte black. Love it! Yup, facebook link died. Here's two new pix.

Just been to see my dad, he's 95 now. He had zero interest in music until he met my mum around 70 years ago. Mum liked classical music, so dad kind of got into that over the years. He generally thought that stuff that me my bro and sister listened to was a terrible racket! Anyway, why am I saying this ... I got over there and and he said "I watched Glastonbury all evening, the Foo fighters were very good, the new drummer did well" I almost fell off my chair!

Really good lessons/tutors on Youtube for slap bass techniques?
Angel replied to Angel's topic in Theory and Technique
Thanks for that! Really helpful, that is exactly the thing I'm trying to get. I shall give it a whirl shortly ... -
I love this style of playing. Sure it's not for everyone but I enjoy listening and having a go. I'm somewhat limited so far, (but not a beginner) and one thing I really don't get is those very muted little 'tick' notes that fly around. I get muting a string with your left hand, but I can't get anything like that sound, and it's especially hard in the middle of phrases. The other thing I'm trying to work out is more interesting things to do with my left hand playing. So, anyone seen any really useful Youtube lessons? I've chugged through a fair few, but not quite what I am searching for. This is exactly the sort of playing I like, and a really nice little bass solo at 3.22. All girl band Tokyo Groove Jyoshi.

Outboard preamp to get 'active' Mark King type tones?
Angel replied to Angel's topic in Amps and Cabs
Thanks for the comments a couple of things to try there! -
I really like that very active type guitar tone that people like Mark King get. I'm wanting to achieve that sort of tone. I basically just noodle around at home, occasionally recording, so I'm hoping to get somewhere without spending megabucks. My current bass is self built with Delano pickups and a J Retro 01 preamp. Any thoughts/suggestions? For reference, this kind of sound is what I am after:

The head looks lovely! Won't work for me needing a cab though The small one, I can't believe it's any good for £33!

A bit expensive for me!

That's for bass as well?I though it was just guitar.
