Gorgeous Peavey EXP HP signature model. Cost over £400 new, in great nick, some slight wear to the gold plating on the pickups Beautiful ebony fretboard. This guitar plays like a 80's Ibanez Artist, Sounds like a les paul and looks like a PRS. Its the nicest guitar Iv'e ever owned and it pains me to sell it but needs must and I need more basses and bass gear Comes with fitted hard case, fitted with schaller strap locks £250 or trades by way of a bass 4 or 5
Is this the one you have? http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~W...ing~ID~2065.asp Is it a 2 band EQ with bolt on neck? Also does your bass have 'MEC' or 'MEP' pickups?
Sounds from his post like its more likely to be a proline or other active job. The pick-ups will be MEC no doubt. Could be either bolt on or NT as they do both (I am a big fan of bolt ons myself) I have just swapped my streamer for a USA Jazz and I honestly believe that the Warwicks sound superior and more versatile to anything else on the market. If it wasn't for my love of maple necks I would have kept mine
I've ditched all our lights that we collected over time and have got a pair of iColour4's. These are compact, cheap and do anything! Most times we just gig with one of them sat on the floor at the front of the stage - no need for cables, controllers or stands. They are the new garlic bread and ony £130. Trust me, I'm a Doctor!
The only problem find with these is that while they are ok for lighting the band, they give no real visual effect whatsoever. When I go and see a good band I like the lights to be part of the show not just something that lights up the room. You don't really get that without using narrow spots

You just missed this beauty that was on here toward the end of last week. I'm now in possession of it and its mighty indeed, I have never really been a fan of Fender Jazzes but after playing this one I was hooked, and of course it was half what you have to spend Its fitted with SD basslines and 3 band active EQ and an absolutely gorgeous maple board

You can get the Par 56 LED par cans from Thomann for just £23 quid each or the Par 64 LED cans for 35 quid. Very cheap indeed and if you buy enough the postage is free too. As for proper par cans, they do throw a lot more light out than the LED versions but they are also less stable and much hotter As stated in previous posts the lamps a bit expensive although not all that bad at £11.50 for 500w Par 64s sealed beam inc vat & and about 7 quid for the par 56s They get very hot and the maintenance is quite high on them and it would cost you about the same amount if not more for one can with a lamp as it would for an LED. Then you have to buy the GELs It depends on the type of gigs you are doing to how many lights you need. We do weddings and big corporate functions a lot so we need quite an extensive rig including effects for the dance floor if there is no DJ booked. In a pub you can get away with 4 par 56s and that is big enough for most small to medium sized pubs.

I bought a few bits from these if its the music outlet shop, they never arrived, everytime I emailed him to ask about them he just said the English posties were thieves and it was tough. In the end I had to get my money back through paypal. He refused to provide proof of postage and just basically told me to F off. the guy is a joker
indeed ..but I've heard sh*t versions by wedding/cover bands who don't know how (or can't be bothered) to reproduce the groove properly.. M
Yeah but to be fair how many garbage versions of Jazz standards have you heard by poor bands too. That doesn't make the original a bad song. And as for hearing it so much that its annoying, the same could be said for a million jazz standards. It doesn't detract from the fact that the original may have been a great piece of music. There are more things to the song than the music, for example Picket was a great vocalist and his voice fitted the song like a glove. I like anything from Chic to Iron Maiden, the style of music doesn't really matter to me. What matters is that to thing is well crafted and well performed.
any luck with the bad luck? Just to ask, do you run your ashdown or your hartke as your main amp. Cheers, Ben
Neither now. I use a Warwick Bass combo. The Hartke sold, and the ashdown I blew the output stage and someone has just swapped it me for a nice 80s squire strat with a maple board I used the Ashdown mostly because it was less complicated to set up when short of time. A lot of people complain about Ashdown but to be honest I think they sound ok
Thomann do Barts too... http://www.thomann.de/gb/bartolini.html?si...9cc1ff56aefcf51
They do but they don't do a MM replacement. Anyway I manage to pick one up second hand from a fellow BC for £40
I would avoid anything after 73 i dont like the three bolt necks, i remember them coming out and could feel the necks moving. I think also the weight started to creep up during that decade, not an issue with me but for some it could be. I have a jazz and a precision and love them both, fender made some good stuff you just have to look for it.
I actually prefer the feel and sound of the late 70s basses and guitars. I also owned a couple of JV series squires in the very early eighties. The ones with the fender logo and squire written at the top of the headstock. one was a strat and the other was a precision and I have to say they were the two best fender instruments I ever played. I still kick myself to this day for selling them. I don't really think there are any really good or bad fenders, just fenders that suit some one else or fenders that suit yourself. Or in some peoples case no Fenders that will ever suit them

What's so good about old bass guitars?
ianrunci replied to Peter Train's topic in General Discussion
I think its fair to say that the woods used for manufacturing were certainly better back in the day. You could get cuts of wood that you simply can't find now. As for hardware I don't think there would be much difference really except that they can now produce much better quality cheaper parts than they could back then. Also I would assume that a lot more of the building and finishing process was done by hand But I also I think the idea that the wood affects the sound a lot is fairly subjective. Bob Taylor pretty much proved this with his Pallet guitar -
Crikey! That is very strange indeed. It wasn't Ashley Pangborn was it ;0) Nobody can seem to get hold of him! I wonder what the scary man would have done if the bass turned out to be a lemon and didn't get played? I would be on the first plane home just in case! ped
Apparently Ashley is working for Gibson now in the US
Very cool collection. I wonder how the South African ones compare to the Pang? I have always liked the look of them and it looks as though the S. African chap does some impressive work.. Cheers ped
It was strange really. he said this guy came up to him after he had been out there a few months and he looked like he'd just crawled out of a dustbin. he said I'll make you a bass but you must play it not just add it to the collection. Ian asked him how much and he said free as long as he played it. anyway when he turned up with it Ian said he couldnt believe how good it was and imediately asked him to make him a fretless one. He said he paid for the hardware on the fretless model but the rest was free. Some people have all the luck

I am so happy with the way my OLP MM2 plays (I lurve maple boards) I have decided to upgrade the pickups. I am looking at either one of the 2 EMG pick ups which are obviously active or Seymour Duncan Basslines which I presume are passive without an added pre amp I am trying to keep the cost under £100 so the EMG's are looking favourites as I really fancy en active pick up and have liked EMG's in the past Anyone got any other ideas within that budget that would be equally as good? I considered a Bartolini passive but I can't seem to find anywhere in the UK that stocks them

These are photos of my friends guitars. He moved to south africa in the early 80s. the one at the front is his Ashley Pangborn and the two behind were built for him by a guy in SA. They were given to him as a gift and were so good he got rid of his Jaydee's and replaced them with these Enjoy
