1. Yep, I was writing out some scales on cards yesterday , they've seen my hoffner when it arrived and a few books on my desk. .. And in my last place I couldn't resist writing Elvis has left the building on the attendance white board when I left :-D
2. Yes shoes and bass is too much for any man, its not their fault I'll bring my new 5 String and my practice amp unless I can figure out a way of removing my parcel shelf
3. His book on finger exercises is class. I've just got his funk book too but that seems to be difficult .
4. As a newbie to 5 string, 5 String Bass by Stephan Richter is great for technical stuff over all 5 strings. In fact, I'd recommend anything by him. I've got 13 of his books and they are all really useful.
5. The Ibanez looks good and I like the Epiphone Jack Casady too. Its very difficult to tell what has got the best build quality and sound. It seems the more you pay for a Bass, the better quality you get mostly. I've tried a couple in the £400-£500 mark but not in the £900 upwards range. It has to look really old school cool but have the best tone possible for a semi as I only want to buy one of this style and keep it.
6. I liked the one second from the left too and the first utube vid sounds great..lots of different sounds but he can play IMO Cool to see the workshop. GAS GAS
7. Check out the blue with the white racing stripe :-) ....and the specials on their website
8. Maybe if we had the cash we could do a special commission and he could do a Monroe Bass , with f holes for me :-)
9. Any one tried one of these. What are they like and what do they sound like? How do they compare with the Gibson Midtown or the Gretsch G5440. I'm looking at this shape, semi-hollow bass next. Probably go for the Gretsch and I did like the pinstriped Gretsch Guitar that was with Lee Rocker last weekend. :-) I tried an Italia and a Hoffner President at the show and didn't like them that much.
10. I'd love a funky coloured one but how good do they sound?
11. I really really enjoyed it Did all 4 shows and 2 master classes. Andy Irvine is a funk monster.. really liked him My new G & L L2500 Tribute 5 String Bass. Just spent an hour setting it up 100%, truss rod adjustment, string height, intonation and gave it a polish. It sounds deathly The Active is too much for the Amp so I guess being able to run it as a passive mostly is good.
12. I tried a black 5 string MM yesterday on the side of their stand.... Not keen, neck heavy
13. She's full of gas for a leftie :-D
14.
Another top tip from the BC corner - an 'informed' person tells me that the number of entries on the BassGear 'win an Aphex Exciter pedal hasn't been that high compared to last year. Obviously this increases chances of winning one These are cracking pedals which got a very good review in Bass Guitar Mag the other month & they retail at £155!
Ace. I was first to stick my name in at 10am :-). Tell me is hugging a new bass in a travelodge bed perverted :-D
15. PS I didn't hear much slap. I've got the secret. I only spent about half hour in the shop area all day :-)
16.
Gutted I couldn't go, would have loved to have heard Yolanda Charles live Hope everyone had fun
Maybe next year we'll have a welsh contingent. She was playing whilst I was trying to hear my bass :-). Andy Irvine was my favourite masterclass , a real funk monster. My favourite Mainstage was lee rocker but Nate was slick :-) David Ellefson was cool. :-). Just wished I'd bookedd a late train back tomorrow as I would have gone again. Next year it's the full weekend. Great to see seashell laughing at jah :-)
17. Half price cocktails at sticky fingers for the next hour and a half :-)
18. It's awesome and I've got my G & L L2500 5 string in natural for £495 and a cover free to take it home :-) Good to meet some guys and gals :-)
19. Yay, credit card at the railway station with bassist attached :-)
20. Thanks for everything bluejay and seashell. Maybe every one there tomorrow ought to meet at the stand and have a group photo Then again, if the significant others see what we have in our hands it might not be such a good idea
21. Hello mate. Bit of advice though.. Don't try what discreet says in the Blue Oyster Club, it might be a tad dangerous :-D
22. Me too and I think it's likely :-D
23. I've got so much Gas for Saturday, I'm going to explode . G & L L2500 5 string at 30% off. What other bargains are going to be there ..... Think my card will get a major bashing :-0
24. I'm on the guest list so thanks Molan :-)
Not sure if this is the correct place to post this but I've managed to uncover some guest passes that give free entry to the show, through Bass Gear in Twyford, and they are being given away via the Bass Gear Facebook page. All you have to do is 'Like' the page and then send an email to BG as per the instructions you'll see there. https://www.facebook.com/BassGearUK There's no commitment to do anything other than to like the page & subscribe to the monthly newsletter so I hope I'm not breaking any rules (mods - tell me if this is a problem).
