I'm sure Cetera does...
But for the time being I have to grin and bear classic rock & cheesy 80's pop. Ah well
If was playing cheesy 80's pop on a Status S2, I'd be grinning... with pure delight!

Kind of gutted I missed the London show, but now that I know Cynic didn't play for as long (and sans-Stick) I'm not so bothered. It would have been more to see Cynic - I saw them last summer and they were awesome. They had Chris Kringel playing with them then - he's an absolute monster on the bass. Didn't Sean Malone play on the new album? Has he given up on touring? Opeth are great on record, but the times I've seen them live, they've just been lacking something. Can't quite put my finger on it, but there's always been something flat and unexciting about their performances.

Ooo my... that really is quite sexual. That's almost exactly what I'm gassing for right now...
My first ever bass was a SDGR 300FL, wish I'd never sold it. I'm very tempted by the SRX 08LTD, the black finish with red binding looks awesome, and at £229 would make a nice cheap backup bass.
Wow... that looks the absolute balls! Does anyone know if the SRX range has the same body shape/size as the SRs? Or is it a bit chunkier?

They do look 80's... ...which is all the more reason to get one! I'm in the early stages of saving towards one right now. Though with the world's economic situation as it is, it could be a long wait...

I don't think Ibanez ever used Ebony on it's SR range - it's always been Wenge or Rosewood (and maybe Maple). Though I think from this year's models, they've switched to Wenge alternative, since it's now an endangered wood.
They love it in scrubs too! and here too
Let's just face it: Everybody loves it. Those who don't are in denial.
That Ibanez looks mightly familiar! I'm pretty sure it now belongs to me. Did you sell it on Ebay, by any chance?
Just checked the Ebay details from the purchase - it's definitely the same bass. Small (bass)world, eh? Here's the proof....
You can test it by putting the bass on, and turning 90 degrees in either direction without holding the bass. The necks in the early 4 string models were apparently quite easy to fret out with any sudden movements.
'fret out'? I'm feeling pretty dim now...
do you have any problems with neck whip on the Ibby? It was an issue with the earliest 4 strings in the late 80's. I usually rate the Tobias Pro 6 if you replace the electronics and pickups which are a bit gutless. I really liked how it felt - nice slim neck and the wenge laminates sweeten the treble nicely.
What's 'neck whip'?
I had a fretless TRB6 II but the neck feld like an ironing board. The other end of the spectrum was an Ibanez SR1006. One of the older bolt on ones from Japan. Slimmest neck I have ever played on. Wish I still had it, I've never seen another one like it.
That Ibanez looks mightly familiar! I'm pretty sure it now belongs to me. Did you sell it on Ebay, by any chance? Having done some research, I'm pretty sure it's actually an SR1016 - these are indeed very rare and I've not even seen another one on Talkbass. Maybe it had a very limited distribution outside of Japan? It does indeed have an absurdly slim neck profile, which makes it far easier to play than the Yamaha TRBs, for people with smaller hands.

Is 'Headless' about to come back into fashion?
geilerbass replied to ARGH's topic in General Discussion
Headless makes a lot of sense. An original design Sei has long been my dream instrument, but recently I've been seriously Gassing for a Status S2 5er. At £1349 for the bolt-on version, it's almost affordable... Anyone got a second hand S2 that they want to off-load to me? -
Rare Warwick Buzzard Ltd VERY cheap on eBay!
geilerbass replied to warwickhunt's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
That´s hilarious. What a lame effort! -
Last night I almost died - literally
geilerbass replied to woolleydick's topic in General Discussion
God, that's terrifying! Glad to hear that you're still with us. I too was completely ignorant to this kind of thing. Can anyone give a simple explanation as to how this kind of thing can occur? -
Studio version here: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=OGzwNdTVHJo Bass fill with that sound I was on about around 1:20 & then through chorus
There you go. That's it right there. Seriously, you've got to be dead inside to not love that tune.

sei flambouyant 6 for sale or trade (Sold)
geilerbass replied to littleal's topic in Basses For Sale
If you just can't get on with the sound, then by all means try and sell/exchange it, but I really wouldn't trade it straight up for a Thumb. Don't get me wrong, I love Warwicks, but as others have aluded to, the market is such that Warwicks are going very cheaply at the moment - in fact, you've picked a perfect time to be buying Warwick. Your Sei is more desirable (I think) in the second hand market, so as everyone else has suggested, you'd be best trying to sell it and then buying a Warwick afterwards. You'd more than likely get a second hand Thumb BO for £700-800, whereas you've got a good chance of getting £1500 if not more for your Sei. Good luck with it! -
I just listened to it on YouTube.... what a dreadful song
Woah... hold on a second! Sounds like someone's stopped believing. Take that back sir! I'll not stand for any bad-mouthing of the mighty Journey on here or anywhere... As for the bass sound, perhaps you just need to pray to the gods of AOR, so that they might bless you with a bass sound half as astounding as Ross Valory's...

Here's the evidence... I'm the goon to Mr Claypool's right...

Saw this post literally as I was about to shut down my computer at work and leave for the day... ...lucky I did as I managed to get down to it. Did anyone else get down there? What a great movie! Seriously recommend it - really funny and just a joy to watch. Not really any bass player humour, but will definitely appeal to anyone who's been in a band. Got to briefly meet Mr Claypool himself and got a photo/autograph. Awesome evening all round!

A letter to a headliner - it's London gigging, all right...
geilerbass replied to Cantdosleepy's topic in General Discussion
I completely agree with the point about taking the time to say hi and introduce yourself to the other bands. That's just common courtesy. Particularly if you're sharing gear, it's pretty much mandatory to discuss with your conterparts in the other bands who's going to use what and anything specific they should know about the amp/kit that is being shared. Though I don't take exception if bands don't come bounding up to me all chatty, because ultimately, people can be shy and nervous, particularly in a gig environment. There's a difference between not making an effort because you're shy and just being aloof. I certainly have no problem with the former. With regards to other bands watching each other, I don't see an issue if headline bands don't watch support bands and vice versa. Having been in both situations, I can empathise with either. More often than not I'll try and spend a bit of time watching a headliner or support, depending on what position I'm on on the bill, but if I'm supporting, far from home and have to work the next day, I'm going to try and skip off as early as possible, so that I'm not slumped asleep on my desk the next day. That may seem selfish, but it's a necessity - if I lose my job, I've no money to fund my musical pursuits. Similarly, I'll try and check out some of the support bands when I'm headlining, but more often than not and particularly when it's a week night gig, there'll be limited time to have something to eat, warm up and get prepared for the gig. If getting all that done means I have to miss one of the support bands, then unfortunately, that's going to happen. I don't think it's arrogant to try and play the best gig you can - ultimately, that's what I'm focused on when I play live. It's not that I think I'm better than the other bands, it's simply that I take playing live very seriously and want to always do the best I can. -
Cheers. I'll be playing selected shows on the Opeth tour too
So it's official then Steve? Good work sir - that must be literally a dream come true! I'll definitely have to get a ticket for the London show, assuming it hasn't sold out yet.
