Just got a new digital camera... so I can finally contribute to this thread! My little piece of green and black goodness...

Good Very competent at reading music Have a good knowledge of theory Love playing in odd time signatures Can slap, but very seldom do Have a fairly decent groove and can sit back on the beat when required Love playing live Love engaging with the crowd when playing live Not phased by poor live sound Bad Back/neck/shoulder pain Don't practice enough Terrible at picking things up by ear Mind tends to wander when playing, often getting me lost Not a huge fan of recording Not good at writing my own songs Frequently changing my mind about what bass I want Really need to learn and practice more harmony/scale studies
I think that's far too kind and advocate harsher punishment for spammers.
Harsh. Harsh, but fair.

Damn the bastards! Good work on stemming the flow guys - must be a real nightmare. I don't think it would be unreasonable for authorities to publish the home addresses of known spammers on the internet, so that disgruntled recipients can go round their houses and cram the spammers' letter boxes full of pages from porn mags and flyers for viagra.

Nice... Love the finish. Good luck with the price though. As you're no doubt aware, Warwicks are very much out of favour at the moment. There was an older LX on here for ages and even at £550ish, no one was biting. There was even an old Stage II that went for something ludicrous like £600. Times are hard...

An interesting bit of news (if it's true). Metallica vs Fernandes If it is, perhaps we'll see him using ESP basses in the future

Grades definitely are good way to focus your practice, particularly if you are pushed for time. By using a syllabus, you have a pre-prepared set of goals and achievements, which, for someone with as little self-discipline as me, is easier to stick to then creating one's own practice objectives. And if you want to spend the money, you can take the test, just to prove to yourself that you can do it. And get a nice certificate, of course. If you are interested in theory, the AB Guide to Music Theory is definitely a good place to start. If you find that interesting, then maybe have a crack at some of the theory grade papers.
bah - both too far for me!!! c
Lowestoft is too far from most places (I'm only saying that because I grew up there...)

Don't tap your foot to keep in time! Might seem obvious, but it's something I do naturally and was always getting called up for it when I used to play in orchestras. Apparently, the sound of it carries.
I went into a few musical instrument shops here in Bangkok yesterday and the two that had anywhere decent instruments (a pair of Sadowsky basses in a locked cabinet for example) got VERY sniffy about me literally touching even their most basic of instruments. I immediately lost interest and walked out. I mean, with an attitude like that what's the point of even having instruments on display? Why don't they just have posters of the instruments stuck on the wall and the real basses out the back of the shop? (BTW, there's a Thai bass forum as well! Awesome!)
You didn't go into that one near Siam station, did you? I remember browsing a guitar shop near there and noticed a few decent instruments. Can't recall there being any basses that aroused my interest.

South East Bass Bash, Saturday 27th September: WORKSHOPS
geilerbass replied to silverfoxnik's topic in Events
Good work guys! Sounds like it's going to be a great day - sadly, I have a gig that day. Well, not sad that I've got a gig, sad that it clashes with this. Hope it all goes well. -
I might have just got lucky, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed! If I'm honest, I'm pretty unlikely to ever buy from anywhere in London unless it's something rare or a second hand bargain, as I've got a pretty good relationship with the music shops in Norwich and they'll more than likely pricematch and order things in for me if I ask nicely. It's just nice to be able to go to a shop that already have things in stock to try out, which is what pi$$es them off! Hands up. I'm guilty. Sorry!
Are there any music shops in Norwich that have anything worth trying in stock? Last time I was in Cooke's, it was pretty dire. Admittedly, it was a while ago - I didn't think there were any other music shops in Norwich, since Academy of Sound closed.
you know, flying V guitars are one of the coolest designs around. flying V basses just look wrong. same applys to semi acoustics, too. on the other hand the gibson firebird is nowhere near as cool as the thunderbird.
I'm kind of with you there - I love spikey guitars - particularly V's and BC Rich's but I just can't get into the same shapes on bass. They look cool sitting there, but I don't think they look right when someone's playing them. That Dean looks lovely - though I'd never want one myself. Strange.

Stuart Clayton posts on this forum and he's written a book on the subject of slap, that includes double-thumbing. Perhaps he could offer up some wisdom, if he reads this?
Saw a guy at Canary Wharf underground station busking with one a few weeks back and it wasn't Tony Levin or Nick Beggs
I've seen that guy twice! Once in Waterloo station and once at Tottenham Court Road. I actually gave him some change, so impressed was I that someone was busking on a stick.

I know of at least one Stick player on here - I think his forum name is Stickman, funnily enough.

I saw them supporting Ratt a couple of months ago. I'd only heard 'Prime Mover' before and was amused, though not particularly surprised, to discover that all of Zodiac Mindwarp and the Love Reaction's songs sound identical to 'Prime Mover', but with different lyrics. Though not different subject matter. Not one of the greats.
Heres my workhorse [ on the left ] . 1989 SR1100e ,oiled ash body , USA pickups , I think this was the grandfather of the " Prestige" series its known as these days . Recorded 4 albums and done a million gigs on it .Ive only replaced the input jack and a couple of batteries . I trust this bass with my life ....its never let me down .
Man that's a beaut! Proper old-school, but with all the tradmark features that have made the SR range what it is. Did they make a 5-string version of that?
Gwan play dem reggae dub riddim wid tone....cha bumbaclot = No tone fe sure.. for me it's just phat belly gully slinking resonance through a giant sound system...there's a lot to be said for just a note thats very loud and very bassy indeed....apparently the earth resonates in Eb-thats just one note - Don't get me wrong i love 'Portrait of Tracy' (thats lots of notes) with tone, but there is a lot to be said for just the bass, big dub tents aka jah Shaka, a Jazz or precision with tone rolled off and a natural smoke machine and 1000's of festinutters-pure and obese bass tone...they're grrrrreeeattt! Irie What am i talking about-try a SUBDUB night (Iration Steppaz)-footlong with reggae reggae bass food Sauce in Leeds!
I briefly played in a Reggae band about 7 years ago and got to learn all about Reggae tone through that. Our singer kept asking me to give him more 'vibes' from my bass. I eventually figured out that that meant turning the bass up on everything - good thing I had 2 15" speakers at the time

Seeing as one of the reason's that I bought my two Ibanez basses was their Vari-mid semi-parametric eq, it'd seem a bit foolish to just ignore the tone controls I find that the acoustics of each rehearsal/gig can vary immensely an it's useful to have immediate access to the versatile controls on my bass to make adjustments for a better sound. I'll very rarely have any tone control on full, since, with powerful active outputs, it can end up sounding sh*te. I also like to have a bit of headroom so that if the venue is sucking the bass out of my sound, then I can give it that necessary boost. Sure, I can adjust the eq on my amp, but it's useful and more versatile to make use of the tone controls on my basses.

What's the most over-rated bass, or bass related product???
Into my collection....! lol!
It comforts me to know that there's someone in the world, apart from Gene Simmons, who has more than one axe-shaped bass in their collection. More instruments that are shaped as things that aren't instruments, I say! -

That's the same problem I've had - I can find a manual for the AH...SMX range, but it doesn't mention my specific model (350).
Join the flipping club! I've had the same amp for the last 12 years, and in all that time, I haven't been able to find ANY information on it either. They don't exist, really.
You have the AH350SMX? Wow! I don't feel so alone in the world anymore... Seriously, I love the amp, but in terms of paperwork, it does appear to have been erased from history. Though I've seen one or two on ebay in the past.
