1. I remember a lot of practise rooms in the late 80's and early 90's having H&H and Carlsbro amps. Under powered and utter crap. Ah, those were the days....
2. This post has just reminded me that I have a Nady 201 somewhere. I might get it out for a spin soon. I haven't used it in years but I don't recall having any issues with it in the past.
3. At least it wasn't 15 drummers playing whatever that song was that Cosy Powell had a hit with. But I bet someone here can find a clip of something close....... I'm kidding. Please don't lol.
4. Slightly off topic here, but I once did a gig with a drummer that had a (20 year old) photo of himself, and his name, on his kick drum head. And he turned out to be a terrible drummer. Another case of all the toys but no talent. That was a painfully long night. Back on topic, the only pain in the ass here is if you play in more than one band. You'll forever be swapping heads for gigs.
5. Thanks to you all for your answers. I understand this a lot better now
6. I've heard that the MU includes insurance as part of your membership, but all I could find on their site was this: 'Members are insured for legal liability of £10m, to cover injury to members of the public or damage to property. You also get instrument and equipment insurance up to £2,000, Personal Accident cover and tax investigation cover'. I'm not sure if this is the same as public liability insurance. Can anyone shed any light on this??
7. I just bought a pedal from McNach. He's been more than helpful through the process, he got it delivered quick sharp and his packaging was top notch too. Great BCer. Thanks.
8. Seriously, someone here has got to know something about impedance and buffering.....
9. I bought a pedal off Pete. A no stress transaction, everyone is happy. Thanks Pete.
10. Blimey, this takes me back! If I remember rightly, Heaven 17 formed when they left the original line up of The Human League. Penthouse & Pavement was, and is still a cracking album, not bad for a bunch of kids in 1981. I'm going to have to have another listen very soon.
11. I found an interesting video on Pete Thorns You Tube page. (He's well worth checking out, a great player) It's a quick demo on how very long leads kill your tone, and how a buffered pedal put in the signal path can bring back the lost tone. I am no expert but I'm sure somebody here can enlighten us all with the physics as to how this works. I have gone down the true bypass route in recent years like a lot of us have. At the June BC bash in Hatfield, Sibob gave an interesting chat on pedals where he touched on this subject. It was the first time I had heard about this, and It's got me thinking. Now I've found this video I'm sold. I want to know why a signal going through true bypass pedals suffers without a buffer in the chain? What exactly does a buffer do? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOWeoizp4y0
12. Fugly. That's what that is.
13. Seriously, who knows what the craic is with the free sex??
14. Yup, it went quicker than a BF Compact in a half price January sale. And no, I didn't get it either
15. If it's £40 including postage, I'll take it
16.
You don't mean... parallel compression??
I guess he does mean parallel compression. The only downside here is that by using the global wet/dry mix, every pedal/amp model is affected because the global mix is applied to every patch in the B3. A lot of the models do have a wet/dry option but not the compressors, unfortunately. I use the 160Comp for a touch of subtle compression if I'm using my B3 as a stand alone pedal on small gigs but when it's in my board I stick to my trusted BBE Opto Stomp. I haven't used a digital multi effects for years, but the B3 is fantastic value for money and sounds great too. All for less than the price of a couple of separate pedals, it'll be staying in my set up for a long time.
17. That's always been my issues with dirt pedals, the loss of bottom end and clean sound. I have been using a Bright Onions dual loop pedal for a while now and it's brilliant. I ordered mine with wet/dry blends as extras and now I dial in as much clean bass as I need. A cracking little box.
18.
Yeah!... Last time I did this gig was Oct... this was July, I nearly passed out myself!.... Sam (was he working there back then?) told us it peeked at 45 degrees in the pit once!... F.Hot! ....A lotta fun but not much of an earner.
I do remember Sam. He is a top bloke (he was the one who delivered us shots of tequila at the start of each set). My guess is it was our week that he was on about re the 45 degree heat. Utterly insane! The guitarist ended up playing sitting down, the singer was holding onto the kit to stay upright, and the drummer was getting dizzy at the end of each set (so nothing new there then lol). Seven relentless nights of it too. They offered us the last night off due to the air con problems, but we did it anyhow. We still wonder how we survived those gigs. You're spot on about the money. We nearly broke even but a week away in the sun with great mates that can really play was what it was all about. A proper rock n roll time.
19. I bought a pedal from Megagames. Quick postage, well packed and one happy Ratman. Job done. Thanks.
20. I just bought a pedal case from Ian. Really nice guy, and was patient waiting for me to get over to him to collect it too. Thanks Ian
21. My feedback page
22.
Just back from 7 nights on the trot in Wayne's Bar, Nice... Geez.... hot, sweaty, mental! Anyone know that gig?
Yes I know Waynes Bar!! One of my bands did a couple of one week stints there 3 years ago. Mental sums it up nicely. The gigs were so much fun, and the drinking that followed was legendary! On the second week we were there the air con in the pit had packed up, I have never, ever, played in heat like it. Most of the band at some point nearly passed out, no lie. All in all, fond memories. I did hear that they weren't using British bands any more. That's obviously not true so maybe I'll get back there someday.
23. I'm seriously considering searching down the thread about halal meat and oversized breasts. But my dilemma is this - if it actually exists it is likely to have me laughing even more than I have done already at some of the comments in this thread. And that's a lot, believe me! But I am really worried about long term psychological damage. I mean, halal meat and big breasts all wrapped up on one topic! That's got to be seriously warped. If I read it and decide afterwards that I wished I hadn't, I can't exactly un-read it can I. It could turn me off meat altogether, and then I'd be a veggie too. This could open new doors for my music career, so I can't knock that either. Ah, choices, choices.........
24.
usual story, drummers a bit of a tosser but has somewhere to rehearse and leave the gear , so Im in ...
Hear hear. Has anybody ever seen a kit with that paint job before? It looks like an electric kit to me. And have you noticed that he's got a tom to the outside of the snare & hats lol. The turkey! In his favour though, the rug matches the paint job.......
