1.
I acknowledge the technical skill needed to play this kind of thing, I just don't understand why, after putting all those years of work into your technique, you'd use it to play that? Technique is a means, not an end.
I love curries, my favourite food...you cannot beat a good curry is what I always say. My best friend on the other hand hates Indian food and prefers good old fish n chips. He cannot understand why Indian chef's waste their undoubted ability & craft to waste their time blending all of of those wonderful spices and ingredients into a food source as objectionable as curry. I also really enjoy Weather Report & Jaco (preferably as a collective) - my friend prefers AC/DC. I'm right, he's right....
2. Thread back from the dead! Love the Ozrics....the riff that permeates from around 4:22 of "Epiphlioy" until the end is sublime. https://youtu.be/Jeuomc_rqu8
3. Personally my opinion is that Jaco would have been delighted with the thought that people were still discussing him almost 30 years after his death. Love me....hate me....just don't forget me.
4. As much as I love Rush I consider it a relief to be honest....their recent output turned me off. Knowing when its time to call it a day is all about timing - pardon the pun.
5.
Of course all music is totally subjective but what I've heard of Jaco Pastorius has been a total let down
Dear oh deary me. That is all.
6. Breathtaking woodworking! Outstanding bass...congrats.
7. Korean pro series basses are very high quality indeed. I cannot discern any difference in quality between Korean and German made Warwick's. I cannot comment on the Chinese made Rockbass line as I have had no experience with them.
8. Absolutely brilliant basses...worth every penny.
9. Smashing work, really enjoying this build.
10. Excellent price! A great buy for someone surely....
11. I can basically say that a bass is indeed the best type of bass for providing the bass as necessitated by the requirements of a prog/metal band which includes a bass player for playing bass on a bass. To clarify, yes...a bass is best for playing bass in a prog/metal band - best bass or best anything being defined by the subjective reality as perceived by said bassist's perception of reality as it isn't but actually is in his world.
12. Rush - several gigs, every one a loser. Terrific band...pitiful mix.
13. "Head over heels" - Tears for Fears
14. Far be it for me to tell you that the prospect of swapping a Lakland 5502 for a Jazz bass is crazy.....
15. I have seen Rush six times over the years....one of my all time favourite bands, but the sound quality/mix has been consistently diabolical. Strange that one of my favourite bands gigs should have proved some of the biggest disappointments.
16.
Apart from the fact I'm 500 miles away?
....and if you really want to gain access you will find a way....
17.
yes exactly it is wonderful. .. I think its jot the instrument its more my lack of inspiration in ME!
You have unlimited potential....whats holding you back? Start by doing whats necessary; then do whats possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible!
18. If you really want to gain access to the gig you will find a way.... Jimmy Johnson is one of the greatest modern electric bassists and a true gentleman.
19.
Probably my favourite band of all time, I keep discovering new things in their music. . Its got immense groove and technically so complex on another planet really!!
I agree completely
