1. The Alembic on the right is likely to be well known to Alembic club members. It was commissioned as a custom build for a certain person, I seem to recall it was named "Tomahawk" or something similar. The guy that had it commissioned caused a bit of outrage on the club at the time...I personally seem to recall his online persona as coming across as vile and divisive. Ugly bass btw.
2. Loved my Wal - bought it new if 1986 for £750, sold it because I was an idiot. Aesthetically not for everyone, but the best sounding bass i ever owned in 36 yrs of playing
3. Steve Hackett is absolutely one of my favourite musicians, he has a wholly unique voice on his instrument. Inconsistent material or not that is a rare thing.
4. These are absolute tone monsters. A bargain at this price.
5. Congratulations...what a stunning instrument. Filters rule imho.
6. Warwick's, in contrary to many of the generalisations made about them, are not generically any heavier than any other brand. My Corvette is a featherweight. I would say that the bass would be a great price at about £450 - and it will be a fantastic instrument at that price point.
7.
Fantastic basses and considering Lakland, G&L, Sandberg, Fender, Ibanez etc. etc. use Cort to make some of their models I think that says it ll.
This.
8. Well done FC Spoiler....an excellent intervention. Very cool bass indeed.
9. I developed a crack in the neck on my old Lakland 55/01 bass four years ago - following a quick email to lakland I had a brand new neck within a couple of weeks and they paid for a local luthier to fit it and set the bass up. I was very impressed with Lakland's communications, reassurances and actions throughout. I recommend you do the same.
10. Stunning bass, great price....great seller. What else is there? Bump.
11.
Money?
This...end of thread!
12. I owned a Tobias 6 string fretless bass for a time...used the low end an awful lot and the high end not a lot. And that sums it up for me.
13. Dodgy electronics...but a great bass all the same. Please keep us updated with any developments, these are great basses and well worth the emotional investment that you are currently contributing.
14. Hi, welcome to the forum. I have no idea what it is, but I like it! Its a shame that you don't like the sound - this would seem to rule out Alembic pickups and preamp. Interesting.
15. Lovely work, great update.....nice!
16. Nicest Wal 5 string I have seen for a long time. Should have "Carlsberg" on the headstock.
17. The pro models are just that...not hand crafted, but absolutely pro quality instruments. A new Pro series Corvette will set you back up to £1000 - but used they can be had for £350 - £450. They are extremely good value for money used ...and worth every penny.
18.
Just been watching The Old Grey Whistle Test, sounds of the seventies on Yesterday and I was struck by just how poor the bass sound is in almost every song.
What is a poor bass sound?
19.
I've always been curious about warwicks. I like the look of the corvette and streamer but there seem to be so many different versions that I wouldn't know if I was getting a good deal or not if I bought used. I guess I could afford a new rock bass version. Trouble with living in Cornwall is it's pretty hard to get anywhere yo try these things out!
The reason I make this suggestion is because I was in the exact same position as you - I loved the feel and sound of my SR605 but wasn't keen on the look. The Warwick Corvette ticked all of my boxes once I played them. They don't look particularly exciting in pictures...however they are gorgeous in the flesh and in the hand.
20. This is a SERIOUS piece of kit for the money. A lovely pro quality bass.
21. Have you considered a Warwick corvette? They are extremely tactile, playable and slim in much the same way as the Ibanez soundgears are.
22. Congrats on yet another really great build. I think a 5 string version would be even better aesthetically.
