Fantastic basses and considering Lakland, G&L, Sandberg, Fender, Ibanez etc. etc. use Cort to make some of their models I think that says it ll.

This.
I developed a crack in the neck on my old Lakland 55/01 bass four years ago - following a quick email to lakland I had a brand new neck within a couple of weeks and they paid for a local luthier to fit it and set the bass up.
I was very impressed with Lakland's communications, reassurances and actions throughout. I recommend you do the same.
Dodgy electronics...but a great bass all the same.
Please keep us updated with any developments, these are great basses and well worth the emotional investment that you are currently contributing.
Hi, welcome to the forum.
I have no idea what it is, but I like it! Its a shame that you don't like the sound - this would seem to rule out Alembic pickups and preamp.
Interesting.
The pro models are just that...not hand crafted, but absolutely pro quality instruments.
A new Pro series Corvette will set you back up to £1000 - but used they can be had for £350 - £450. They are extremely good value for money used ...and worth every penny.

Just been watching The Old Grey Whistle Test, sounds of the seventies on Yesterday and I was struck by just how poor the bass sound is in almost every song.

What is a poor bass sound?

I've always been curious about warwicks. I like the look of the corvette and streamer but there seem to be so many different versions that I wouldn't know if I was getting a good deal or not if I bought used. I guess I could afford a new rock bass version.
Trouble with living in Cornwall is it's pretty hard to get anywhere yo try these things out!

The reason I make this suggestion is because I was in the exact same position as you - I loved the feel and sound of my SR605 but wasn't keen on the look. The Warwick Corvette ticked all of my boxes once I played them.
They don't look particularly exciting in pictures...however they are gorgeous in the flesh and in the hand.
Everything within your specified price range (which is inclusive of approx 95% of the bass market) which is not a Fodera is an alternative to a Fodera. The only person able to shed light upon a suitable alternative that meets your exact subjective specifications ...is you.
Btw GAS, like any other bad habit or addiction is entirely destructive and completely fruitless.

Ah, dear old Biff.
He's 64, you know.

...and it is glaringly obvious that he is right handed.

I guess it seems a bit like a professionalism thing
[/quote]
....if people care enough about it to be upset then it could be construed as unprofessional, in my experience nobody cares.
In this context I personally consider pointlessly hanging around for hours unprofessional, and a waste of the most valuable commodity of all....time!
Seems absolutely logical to me, we have even done similar at weddings on agreement with the DJ. It's not disrespectful if those who would potentially feel disrespected have intimated they won't feel disrespected.
If the client is happy, the DJ has no issues with it and the punters don't care then what else is there?
