1.
Percy Jones and Mick Karn used slides all the time, harmonics, etc .... no rules
Absolutely. Music is art, the only rule is that there are no rules.
2. Be innovative, creative and expressive. Listen to Percy Jones and Mick Karn
3. Absolute one of my biggest bass heroes,, many thanks for this
4. Bit of a contentious issue this...with two distinctive camps. Its a pointless argument of course. I am of the opinion that it is impossible for the overall structure of any object not to be influenced in any way by its components
5. Beautiful job...a fantastic rescue all round.
6. Exactly what I am looking for at exactly the wrong time
7. I own an Ibanez SR1205 which has Nordstrand big singles and until recently also owned an SR605 with Bartolini's - this being my back up bass. From experience of extensively gigging and rehearsing with both I concur with your perception... the Nordstrand's are definitely a significant step up from the Barts and generally sound much richer all round.
8.
What he's valued it at and what he'll get are two different things, but in the end he might just get someone to pay that much. Should you be annoyed ? If you really want to be...but I'd take the chuckle option.
This
9. Wow, I don't ever remember even having to play that note in any song ever... If the BTB is your best sounding bass then you either learnt to live with it, or its decision time mon ami.
10. Alan (ACG) trumps anything else at that budget - his arrival is a game changer. Easy choice now.
11. Good stuff folks! It always struck me that Jack was an enormously talented yet unusual fretless player. He predominantly played unlined fretless yet under scrutiny his intonation was often very precise...and he avoided many of the more common fretless techniques. There was something special about both of his expressive musical voices...
12.
I can't help wonder if a higher spec' model like the Ibanez 1200 with the Nordstand big single pups would give the a Warwick a run for the money?
I own the SR1205 Premium with the Nordstrand big single pups and it really does have an excellent inherent tone (especially at gigging volume)...but I still prefer the tone of my Warwick. It shades it for me. I'm not really a technical guy so would find it difficult to describe exactly why this is, but I just trust what makes my ears feel good. Sound is very subjective at the end of the day!
13. I own a 1205 and have gigged it extensively for three years - really great bass indeed. Mine weighs just over 8lbs.
14. I own both Ibanez and Warwick basses...the Ibanez's are great basses but I would say that the Warwick has the edge.
15. If you read your original post again you will see that the younger you has already answered your original question. Trust him
16.
I've never really been into Jack Bruce but I now realise that I've completely misunderstood him all these years.
Job done....you are welcome. Thanks for taking the time to watch
17. A people without knowledge of their past, history, origins and culture is like a tree without roots. This is well worth a watch - the original bass hero imho. https://youtu.be/OUo3Nv7k4R0
18. Super nice bass, well done. Warwick really know how to do fretless basses...enjoy it!
19.
Saw the 'So' classic album show a while back, he explains this to some extent but I'd still like to know how he gets most of his tone on that album.
This too is one of my long standing burning questions! Very clever bass sound
20. Lakland make really great 5 string basses - good choice. It should fit your standard case with no real problem.
21. That is outstanding congratulations.
22. I had a copy of this on cassette around about that time. I used to listen to it as a fledgling musician and consider it as some form of sonic alchemy. Were have the years gone.
23. Always great to watch your basses evolving....
24. I am a big Warwick fan, I admire the company ethos. I have a Korean Pro Corvette and the quality is absolutely faultless. Korean's can build basses as well as Germans, Japanese, Americans, Mexicans...the last time I checked people are people, and If the design, QC, craftmanship and materials are right and the end product is good then what else matters? I fancy a new German Pro Thumb (if they are on the radar).
