1. If it works then the technique is not "Bad"..... Music is art, there are no rules.
2.
On a different offbeat road. Warwick Corvette with ash bodies are pretty damn light. Streamers with P pickup in might be an alternative. Another plan could be getting custom smaller thinner body made - Gibson SG bass thickness combined with G&L SB 1/2 size ( P bass on diet).
Great advice my current Corvette is as light as a feather...but sounds like a Tyrannosaurus Rex!
3.
Thanks Cloud. ..'ere why don't you give it a go?
Hey, thanks for that! The only problem is that if I play it I will want to have it
4. Sorry to read about your lower back problem. 9lbs is not by any means a heavy bass - lots of good advice already on this thread. P basses can be heavy old lumps of wood...but there are a few out there that are light. I owned a Lakland that had a lightweight cut of swamp ash for the body, it weighed in at around the 7.5 lb mark. Good luck.
5. Whoah...that is just so good!
6. That is gorgeous ...enjoy it!
7. That is uber cool! A great touch by the guys.
8. UPS success for me. New bass delivered from Italy within four working days in perfect condition. The tracking service was accurate and updated quickly. Very pleased and impressed.
9. Very nice P bass....enjoy it!
10. It will work....might look a bit unusual though (my opinion of course).
11. I would echo all of the previous comments....tread carefully!
12. Yes. Seen them live twice and they were fabulous. Brilliant southern rock band.
13. I would discount all but the Ibanez personally....but that's just me. The Lakland is a nice bit of kit, pity you don't want to keep it...have you considered a 2nd hand Warwick?
14.
Maybe it just wasn't meant to "B"
Nice one!
15. I don't think they are hard to switch to at all....its just like playing a 4 string with an extra string! I couldn't cope without mine so have no idea why there appear to be so many for sale.
16. It is a classic sound... Just enjoy it!
17. I may be in the minority here but Pino is a bassist that really doesn't excite me...great player as he undoubtedly is. I preferred his Paul Young Musicman fretless days (yes, I am that man!)
18. Let us know how it goes!
19. I would do the Precision bass personally....
20.
That Nova album is rarer than hens teeth John. I have an ancient copy on Vinyl but I think the only CD versions are imports costing fifty odd quid.! My favourite BrandX album would most likely be Product. Wal to Wal is a superb bass duet and I love April.
Thanks for the heads Up Graeme.
21.
Bloody Sex on Fire..............grr ffs!!!
....I feel your pain. Why is it that the songs that the punters constantly demand are the ones that I hate playing the most??
22. Superb review on what looks to be the bass bargain of the year.
23. Nova are a new one on me...sounds great. Thanks for the heads up!
24.
I remember watching Percy with the Liverpool Scene in O'Connors Tavern in the late 60s, he was mind blowing then.
Thanks for sharing that was really interesting.
25.
Maybe I'm weird but I just can't be bothered owning lots and lots of different instruments. Maybe its a hangover from being a classical musician---just having one really good flute and not worrying about anything other than that. I like to have a main one and maybe a backup and just play them. Changing between instruments all the time is irritating (to me) and I don't like having stuff lying around not being regularly used. Don't get me wrong, I love looking at pictures of shiny new basses as much as the next guy but I don't think I'll ever own more than 2 or 3 at once.
I am of the exact same opinion and personally shere the same feellings on this topic
