1. If you have to buy a Fender then make sure it's an acceptable American model. If you want a really good Fender then buy a Lakland.
2. There is something so right about this bass. I love it.
3.
So it's my 21st coming in just over a month and I've been told by my parents that I can have some money towards a new bass. Thinking I'll go for a limelight and it's going to certainly be a 62 era P Bass. Now the question is; Do I go for Shoreline Gold with a matching headstock and Tort guard? OR Do I go Lake Placid Blue with a natural headstock and Tort guard?
It's always good to have choices. The best thing about having choices is making those choices, because we all know what we all like....don't we?
4. Cod vs Haddock, Lager vs Cider, Salt n Vinegar vs Ready Salted......... Sigh.
5.
Sooner or later it will descend into "my dad is bigger than yours!"
............!
6. This why I never buy sight unseen online. I feel sorry for the OP. Poor show from both Sandberg and Thomann all round.
7.
Surely the answer to your question is Geddy Lee anyway?
I would have to disagree with that.....
8. I just don't see the point of this. A bass player is a person who plays the bass. This thread makes about as much sense as a "which male bassist has the best technical ability?" or "which bass is the bestest bass ever?". What next....who is the greatest ever gay bassist?...who is the most talented bassist of Jewish origin? Sooner or later it will descend into "my dad is bigger than yours!" Pointless.
9.
But women are still under-represented in the world of Bass (although it seems not as rare as lead guitarists and drummers! :- ) , so it is lovely to see their achievements celebrated.
Also very true. I once heard a great bassist on the radio, and it really was great bass playing indeed. I was impressed. Funnily enough, purely by coincidence I saw that same great bassist playing the exact same piece of music on the TV a short time later....and I saw a great bass player. I found out that her name was Tal Wilkenfeld and that she was female. That great bass player was great at playing bass. Did I mention that half of my ancestors were female? I am glad that you are enjoying playing the bass and that you are getting lots of encouragement, stick at it. We usually become good at the things that we love doing.
10. A bassist is a bassist is a bassist.....
11. I used to own one of these in the 80's and it was better than my vintage Fender jazz. This is a lot of bass for the money.
12. "Human" by the Killers.....boring.
13. I owned a graphite necked Vigier in the 80's and it was outstanding. I also love Status and Zon graphite necks.
14. I recall that a similar thread about Letts basses created quite a reaction not so long ago......
15. 3 words......Lakland Darryl Jones.
16. The original question posed is the basschat version of opening a can of worms. In this price range the world is your oyster.......play as many of your preferred options as you can - and remember that instrument choice is highly personal and subjective.
17. Yes - Close to the Edge Genesis - Selling England by the pound Weather report - Heavy Weather Allan Holsdworth - Metal Fatigue Rush - Moving Pictures Led Zep - 4 It Bites - Once around the World That'll do for me.
18. I used to have one and it was an excellent bass. You are correct, these are very nicely built - but the pups and pre are weak and let it down a tad....a swap out with nice quality stuff would make it a great instrument. Unfortunately I cannot help with the measurements that you require but someone on here must own one.
19. These Fernandez FAB alembic copies are very rare. The woodworking on them is breathtakingly good in comparison with the real thing. The electrics are not in the same league though; it would be unrealistic to expect otherwise to be fair. Great to see one for sale on here, good luck!
20. Great job...a bass worthy of rescue. Love the new finish!
21. I would echo the previous replies...you cannot go wrong with any of the models you are considering. My main gigging bass is a sr1205 and my back up was a sr605 until recently. Both are sublime instruments. Good luck!
22.
I believe that the whole Ibanez SR range is 34". The ones I have are all 34" and all fantastic. The SR1206 I have is a beauty and the SR1205 is the best bass I have ever played. Note that they are the 90s versions that are neck-through, not the new line with the same model numbers.
This is the logical reply. I tried extremely hard to live with the Yamaha trb basses but the 35 scale on this model felt so wrong. I found exactly what I wanted with the Ibanez sr1205.
23.
My biggest barrier from improving is myself
Nothing unusual about this at all.....your inner saboteur is at work. Most problems in a persons life come from within. Have a word with yourself and tell him to let you get better through practice.
24. The Japanese built Ibanez SR's are exceptional, professional tools. This model looks fantastic. Well done Ibanez!
25. Welcome to the Ibanez family. Great basses!
