Not a popular model then.......
Hi, I owned a SR 605 up until about 3 weeks ago, I used it as a gigging back up to my SR 1205. It is a tremendous instrument and I cannot praise them enough....they are very tactile and have to be played to be appreciated as pictures don't just don't do them justice. The design is just so well thought out. Supremely playable, great elecs & pups, wonderful punchy tones ...great hardware. Mine weighed under 8lbs, tremendous for a 5 string bass. Highly recomended.

Is a defretted bass , as good as a fretless ?
White Cloud replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in General Discussion
The only advantage a designed to be fretless bass might have over a de-fretted bass is the luthier may have chosen a harder or nicer sounding piece of wood for the fingerboard. Not going to make a huge difference in most cases.
This is a very perceptive observation. Very true! -
I enjoyed them at Glasto.....sorry
You can't be too thin or too rich. And that's the thing... if you're rich you know you can eat wherever you like whenever you like, so half the time you don't bother. When you're poor, you're thinking about food all the bloody time and then when you can afford it, you buy jam, cake, crisps, sweets, KFC, McD, and so on and so forth. Because healthy food is expensive and doesn't give you the same instant gratification. Having said that, Eric Pickles is in no way poor and yet you could scoop him out and use him as a houseboat. So what do I know?
Very true indeed............

Music apart, its incredible how painfully thin these guys are. McCartney falls into the same category. Normal people are not emaciated in this way. They must live on fags.

I owned a killer Lakland Skyline Daryll Jones ( amazing jazz bass) that weighed just under 8lbs...however Laklands vary greatly in weight.
Whatever you think of Seasick Steve. you've got to admit he's in pretty good company, no? And he didn't get his big break until he was 65, which says 'poo' to all those kids on here who think you're finished if you're over forty! So a big 'poo' to you all again!! POO!!
HA ha...great!

I am pictured here with Allan and Gary Husband. Allan is very self critical and extremely down to earth and humble. -
Don't know why but looked like he was suffering from stage fright! His hands were shaking, but maybe that's him?
See my last post bud -
Yeah, saw him at the renfrew ferry a few years ago. Pretty good even though he looked terrified!
Lol. I had a beer with him before that show - and I can confirm he was terrified! I also stood about 4 feet in front of him throughout the show and you could easily see his fingers trembling...the amount of sweat on the finger board was another indicator. For those not in the know Allan suffers from chronic stage fright. I find it amazing that one of the greatest ever exponents of the electric guitar suffers in this way when playing to a crowd of 200 admirers!!! On the second occasion that I saw Allan in the Ferry I ended up in deep conversation with Jimmy Johnson who asked me for advice on Sansamp drivers....he asked ME for advice!! Ridiculous................ I got the hell out of there before I was rumbled as captain bluff of the the 2nd bluff brigade. -
Very cool.....nice bass sounds from JPJ

you cant beat fender, They got it right.....
Last month I went to Nashville to do studio cuts for an old friend. I had a Ric 4003 with me. It didn't mix as well as i thought it was going to. I used a Fender American Deluxe Jazz they had in the studio. That made up my mind quick. After getting back to my local shops, a Fender American Deluxe Jazz followed me home. The Fenders are hard to beat.
You aren't alone - I would say that, from experience, it is much easier for a Fender to sit in the mix than your average Rickenbacker....and I do like Rick's. -
Agree with the previous posts - he has great musical energy and is a top improviser. Perhaps blighted by inconsistent material...but some real diamonds.

4 string 35" scale....big difference to play?
White Cloud replied to iconic's topic in General Discussion
I know from experience that 35" scale length doesn't really work for me ...I cant explain the whys and the wherefores, it just feels wrong and I cannot live with it. The only 35" bass that ever felt okay was a Lakland 5 string. -
you cant beat fender, They got it right.....
White Cloud replied to greyparrot's topic in Bass Guitars
Cant argue at all that they got it right..unquestionable. The statement that they cannot be beaten is however wholly subjective. That is a matter of personal preference based on taste and perception. All basses are merely variations of the same theme. -
Do not panic. A good luthier will often work wonders in this sort of repair...and it will be money well spent! As a furniture maker I would always AVOID using wood filler (nasty) unless absolutely necessary. The 1205 is a wonderful, natural finish bass...I love mine so feel your pain. Often a wet cloth and a hot iron can work wonders on the dents that aren't too bad. Good luck!
Yes, thanks, that one really helps. Sort of a bit of 'pwoup' about it.
Yes "pwoup" is a good description...my own personal analogy was that of a "rubbery" sound...dont ask me why!?!?!?

This the sound of a Wal! http://youtu.be/WQgu0MpnKq8
Ok, now had a listen to almost all the suggestions, thanks all, particularly to Jigster for his own sound. I must admit, I'm still not quite getting it to be able to recognise the distinction. The Porcupine Tree sound is a very good bass sound, but could be one a number of basses. I've done a lot of JB listening in the past couple of days, I can definitely hear the Wal fretless as distinctive, but fretted? I'm just going through the Rush suggestions.
I personally think that one of the best examples of the Wal sound is Geddy Lee on Power windows (as previously stated) - especially "Big Money". My Wal just nailed that tone with aplomb! Wonderful, sublime sounding instruments...but they neck takes a bit of getting used to. I personally don't really think that Colin Edwin's sound with Porcupine Tree is the best example of the Wal tone...(love PT all the same though).

I agree....you are under pricing yourself for the wedding gigs.
Worst basses I ever owned were 2 Rickenbacker 4001's & my custom built Jaydee Supernatural. The Rickenbackers were just shockingly badly made, uncomfortable & sounded like crap & the Jaydee had such an unstable neck that I spent more time adjusting the truss rod than I did actually playing it.
I loved my two Ricky 4001's - but funnily enough hated my Jaydee supernatural too...it developed an incurable back bow on the neck that would have made Robin Hood's bow blush. Never ever forgave Jaydee basses to this day.

Many thanks for the advice! The Boss or the Radial look like the best option on my limited budget..will check them out.
