Opinions/advice on our bands confederate flags please
Damonjames replied to Les's topic in General Discussion
it is really interesting Les, how your perception can change. I must have seen hundreds of pics of you guys on facebook, and also seen you live - the flags were probably there! I have just grown up with them being a symbol of rebellion (Sorry Blue, ill plead being an ignorant Aussie!!). I have to be honest, when I saw that picture with the two flags hanging, it did have a negative impact - the only thing missing is a guy in a klan hood!!! Glad you have decided to drop the flag - the act is strong enough to survive. Good luck with it. -
Opinions/advice on our bands confederate flags please

It represents southern American pride to WHITE southern Americans, but I wonder if the southern African American community feel the same? I feel for Tex on this one, as it is part of the "cowboy" imagery, but it may be time to rethink, perhaps the Stars and Stripes would do? I know you guys well enough to know you are not white supremacists, but a passer by may jump to that conclusion! Hope it hasn't caused too much grief! -

Mexican deluxe jazz bass, want to turn it passive
Damonjames replied to eddie1984's topic in General Discussion
At the risk of sounding dumb, could you not just use a standard jazz plate and use the front mounted jack, and just leave the side body mounted jack to cover the hole and then you have it if you ever want to go back to active?? Another option would be to get a mark hoppus scratch plate and add an addition hole? OR, after googling, you could just get a stacked jazz control plate lol. £20 online and you are away 😉 -
Just picked up a 3u road case from John. Great comma and was kind enough to meet me at avibmouh services to save me some time. Buy in confidence, John is a top bloke!!
Two 4x8"s and the Fusion 550. Boatloads of punch (and fun!) Can't get the image to upload upright but you get the idea.
I like your style pal!!! There don't seem to be too many of these amps around, so it's nice to know there are a few of us enlightened to the total brilliance of this amp. 2 x 410's, that must be bloody loud!!!!! My 212 is loud enough to keep up with two guitarists lol

Cheers guys!!! After this weekend I will have a clearer picture of what I have to work with. In all honesty, don't get too excited, the space it pretty small, but it's all I have so will have to do the best I can I suppose!!!
How big is the room and how are you intending the ventilate it? Remember that conventional ventilation is very much at cross-purposes with sound insulation!
Haha, I have tried to consider this, but it is still part of the evolution lol. When I get to up load the drawings, you will see that the entrance to the room will be through the garage, so I'm hoping that I can sacrifice some sound bleed for some fresh air lol

Hey everyone!!! So I am about to embark upon a little project now that our extension is almost finished. In the rejig of downstairs, I have managed to carve out a little practice room with the new layout. So firstly, don't expect much!! It is a TINY space, but it will be enough for my needs, but hopefully I can document some things that might be useful to other basschatters. There will be three goals here 1. Stopping noise coming out of the room to the rest of the house. Like most of us, I practice mostly at night so need to not wake the kids up! 2. Acoustic treatment of the room to maximise recording quality. This may have some hurdles here as I am also new to the home recording scene! 3. Making the room a cool/funky place to hang out and be creative. As it is wedged in between the garage and lounge, I won't have a window, so I will need to be creative to make it a place I want to spend time rather than a suicide chamber. As I have said, it's kind of a makeshift space so there are some issue I need to work around. I will put up some pics and drawings over the next few days and would appreciate any input/advice from people who have tried a build like this before!!
Looks lovely. I always wanted a Stingray but when I bought one I couldn't get on with the neck, which is why I ended up with the Sterling. Swore I'd buy a SLO Special as soon as I could afford one.
Me too, that's why I play stingray 5's, the flatter neck profile is far more comfortable. I did love the sterling I had too, though the tone wasn't exactly what I wanted which prompted the shift.
Yes. Mine is spot on. Thoroughly recommended. It also has an SLO neck. Picture here.... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/302682-stingray-purchasing-advice-required/
Oh my lord... that thing is stunning!!!
@damonjames Appreciate the advice But like you say my mind will probably fluctuate a thousand times from one to another before I pull the trigger. Do like the look of barefaced two 10 though (500w but can be pushed harder) lightweight and is 4 ohms so I could draw all of the juice from my head;)
Now you're talking 😉 Keep us posted on what you decide to do!
I know too well. I'm getting on a bit and lightweight and singular is what I need. Think I'm gonna wait for a barefaced compact. Although they too are 8 ohm but have a higher wattage and apparently the impedence mismatch with that gear is not such a big deal.
Ok, you really need to do some homework before you drop some cash hear big fella. There is no "mismatch" going on. Your amp can deliver 350 watts at a minimum load of 4 ohms. You can run it with an 8 ohm load but the maximum power is halved to 175 watts. That is the "simple" mathematics of this situation, either scenario is a "match" to use your words, but the result will be different. BUT!!!!! Watts aren't always watts... compare valve to solid state/cast iron to class D and the rated wattage will give very different output levels. Couple with that, that what you really need to understand is not the rated output of the cab, but more it's efficiency is what will give you the ultimate goal in your scenario which is VOLUME!! I have a Gallien Krueger Fusion 550, (rated at 550 watts into 4 ohms) which I run through a Gallien Krueger neo 212 which is rated at 350watts at an impedance of 8 ohms. I can assure you there is no mismatch, it's bloody loud!! I haven't even had a chance to run it with my neo 115 at 4 ohms 😳 Ultimately, it's up to you, and only you will know if your setup will be loud enough for your band. I've always been of the philosophy that I'd rather be looking at it than looking for it, so if it were me, I'd go for two 8ohm cabs and run the full 350 watts, or go for a 4 ohm cab. Good luck with your quest!! If you are like the rest of us, you will probably get GAS for something else in 6 months anyway 😂
Bass traps have zero impact on noise coming in from outside. They are designed to solve acoustic problems with standing waves within the room itself. To prevent noise from outside, especially low frequency, you need to acoustically decouple the inside of the structure from its surroundings. That normally means a floating floor and a room within a room.
This!!!! In the real world though, this may not be achievable in a log cabin style man cave. The only way to stop the sound from outside is by increasing the mass of the walls. Try this site for some more info http://www.acoustic-supplies.com/wall-soundproofing/ I'm about to set up my practice room over the next few weeks, so I will set up a thread somewhere for info. Good luck!!

Most appropriate Bass for Country/Country Rock/Folk

Nice work Ivan!!! It wasn't the country I was expecting, but still tidy work!! That women's voice on the other hand will give me nightmares.... -
The internet is an excellent resource. But, some old school, advice, start trying to play along to your favourite songs. Don't worry too much about the actual basslines, start by trying to follow the chords and the rhythm , just playing root notes. In my (somewhat limited) experience, people give up on playing an instrument because they get bored doing endless scales and exercises. A bit of real world application is a lot more fun. The rest comes along the way.
Perfect advice. Try playing music you like listening to, but you may need to start with the simple stuff first. Be prepared, you are probably not going to be great at first!!! Be patient and you will make progress. Once you get your fingers moving, look for some lessons around basic scales and timing, then move on from there. Scott's stuff is brilliant, but by his own admission, it is geared at intermediate level players and really focuses on a musical theory approach to playing (I have learned loads), but it seemed the learning never ends with this bass playing malarkey!! Good luck!
